We originally registered the mark Face Focused Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics because we became committed to doing orthodontics which took into account the effect of orthodontics on the face. Too often traditional orthodontics produces straight teeth but ignores or even damages the balance of the face.
We have since recognized that by respecting the profile and balance of the face, a persons airway is not compromised and often can be improved. A compromised airway can be associated with TMJ problems, headaches, and sleep apnea. It has become apparent that Face Focused Orthodontics is far more than being about facial balance. Its critical consideration of airway factors indeed relates to a patients overall health.
Bill Hang grew up in the Midwest a fun-loving but very goal oriented person. Little did he know he would find himself attempting to change the dental profession from 'tooth carpenters' to 'mouth doctors' to help patients have the best smiles possible as well as a healthier life.
Trained as a traditional orthodontist, Dr. Hang has come to believe that straight teeth and a nice smile are important but someone's profile, jaw joint health and airway are primary concerns. Dr. Hang has committed his career to advancing a paradigm of thinking in orthodontics that rejects traditional retractive techniques in patients of all ages. His Face Focused treatment techniques are designed to: develop the jaws forward, never backward: work toward proper facial balance; create pleasing facial appearance; protect and/or expand the airway, and produce broad smiles that are complete to the corners of the mouth.
