Dr. DallOlmo provides gum grafting and bone grafting periodontal surgeries for the treatment of periodontal disease. For patients with advanced gum disease, gum surgery may be necessary to fully restore the health of the gums and support long term oral health.

Gum recession and bone deterioration are both side effects of advanced gum disease. As the gums become inflamed, they separate from the teeth and begin to recede. Receding gums lead to tooth loss, and with out the support of all of the teeth, the jaw bone becomes susceptible to deterioration and changes in the facial structure. Gum disease can also allow the bacteria to create pockets in the bone, weakening the structure.

Gum grafts are often used to cover exposed roots due to gum recession caused by periodontal disease. Dr. DallOlmo will remove the skin from the roof of the mouth and use it to extend the gum line. Tissue can also be harvested from a donor depending on the patients oral health.

When left untreated, periodontal disease can damage the jaw bone. The compromised bone can begin to recede, leaving the face looking sunken or withdrawn. The jaw bone is essential in maintaining the structure of the lower face and the function of the bite. Patients with bone loss become highly susceptible to tooth loss and can also lose the ability to eat and speak normally.

The Bone grafting procedure will be completed in the comfort of our Santa Monica, CA dentist office. First, Dr. DallOlmo will thoroughly clean all disease causing bacteria from the bone. Then, bone grafts and or tissue-stimulating proteins will be attached to the bone to stimulate natural regeneration of the bone structure.

Sedation dentistry is commonly used to help patients control their dental anxiety. Fear of the dentist can restrict patients ability to receive the dental care they need, allowing complex oral health concerns to develop in the absence of dental care. Through dental sedation, patients with anxiety can also receive several dental treatments or procedures during one visit, saving time, money and stress.

  • Oral Conscious Sedation: This form of sedation is taken in pill form. Some patients may take the pill several hours prior to treatment and will need a ride to and from treatment. Patients remain awake, but completely relaxed during treatment.
  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): A breathable gas, nitrous oxide takes effect immediately after inhalation. Patients remain awake and alert during treatment but will have little to no memory of the procedure.
  • IV Sedation: Dr. DallOlmo is IV sedation certified and offers sedation dentistry for patients who are undergoing advanced restorative dental procedures. IV sedation will allow the patient to sleep peacefully during their treatment. IV Sedation can be controlled and will be closely monitored during treatment.
  • Our patients safety and comfort are our top priority. Dr. DallOlmo is IV sedation certified and has over 20 years of experience. All sedation methods are recommended with discretion, taking into consideration the patients medical history and current health condition.

Dr. Dall'Olmo and his team are wonderful. As much as any physician I've worked with, he works with you to determine the procedure/strategy that is most efficacious and an agreed upon solution. And it feels the entire team is working for the best result possible.
