After almost 40 years in the profession, I am happier than ever to have joined the orthodontic field. Over the years I have had the privilege of caring for so many incredible people, each with their own dreams of a healthy, beautiful smile, and each with unique clinical needs. Ive been able to use my skills and knowledge to develop individual treatment approaches to each persons specific orthodontic requirements, which has resulted in amazing smiles that truly improve their life. Along the way, Ive established and nurtured wonderful relationships with my patients and their families, and am honored to be a part of their lives.

Im a firm believer that every professional, no matter what specialty, needs to stay abreast of developments in the field. This is especially true in orthodontics, where there are constant changes in technology and treatment methodologies. Teaching and directing the advanced education program at the School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University has allowed me to be on the forefront of the newest advances in the field of orthodontics. This has translated into our practice being current on the newest techniques and trends in orthodontics.

  • In the Orthodontic Community In addition to pursuing continuing education, I was an integral member of the faculty that created the Advanced Education Program in Orthodontics at the School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University, and am now the program director. I have also taught orthodontics, growth and development, biomechanics, interdisciplinary care, and orthognathic surgery to dental students and oral surgery residents at both Stony Brook and North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center since 1975.
  • I am a founding member of the cleft palate team at Stony Brook University Hospital, and I am director of the craniofacial deformities team at the School of Dental Medicine. In addition, I co-direct a team with the Department of Periodontics, which reviews treatment plans of patients with complicated, multidisciplinary dental problems.

My wife Judy and I have traveled around the world and love to share stories of our adventures. Our travels and family are documented on the screen savers in the office. Our oldest son, Dr. Zack Faber, joined the practice in 2001. His wife Brooke is an MBA and currently a stay-at-home mom who is very active in the community. Josh, our younger son, is a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. His wife Joanne is the in-house counsel and an attorney at the Carlyle Group in Washington, D.C. Having two of my grandchildren, Austin and Grant, nearby is wonderful, and I spend as much time with them as I can. Our newest family addition is Sam, who is on the Washington side of the family. We are thankful for technology as we FaceTime Sam many times a week.

One of the most satisfying aspects of being an orthodontist is the relationships that grow between my patients and me. I love being a part of their lives, listening to their stories, and hearing about their successes and dreams. They include me in their world and we become friends, which I consider to be such an honor. I look forward to their visits as a chance to catch up on news from a friend. When they come in smiling, I understand they feel the same way. It is amazing to witness the growth of our patients self esteem and confidence as we achieve the great changes in their smiles.

  • As a third-generation orthodontist, following in my fathers footsteps and my maternal grandfathers before that, I know the profession has made great strides over the last 60 years. Modern orthodontic care involves teamwork, creativity, engineering, and science to provide a truly life-altering service to our patients.
  • I know that pursuit of continuing education is essential to providing my patients with the best orthodontic care options available. I seek out courses, lectures, and seminars throughout the year. Ive also founded and am an active member of several Long Island study clubs that collaborate across oral healthcare specialties, which enables us to deliver the highest level of care to our patients. I am actively involved in teaching the orthodontic residents at SUNY Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. I am a volunteer teacher attending at the Dentofacial Deformities Clinic and the Pediatric Residency Program at Cohen Childrens Medical Center at North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Being involved and giving back to my community is essential to who I am as an individual, as well as a professional. I am the co-chair of the Long Island Chapter of Smiles Change Lives, a national organization that delivers orthodontic services to children and youth from low-income and underserved communities.

My lovely wife Brooke and I have two sons, Austin and Grant, as well as a family dog, Caddie. Spending time with my family is always my passion when Im not caring for my patients. I also enjoy golfing, running, and coaching lacrosse. I finished the 2013 NYC Marathon and have finished the Long Island Half-Marathon five times!

No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to become a board certified orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.

My name is Elaine and I was hired in 1992 as a Lab Technician, but my job has evolved as the practice has grown. I still do all of our in-house lab work, assist the doctors, and assist the receptionists at the front desk. I keep Faber Orthodontics stocked and running smoothly. I will do anything necessary to keep the office and the patients happy.

Its a great feeling to know youre making a person happy, and thats always my focus. I want a patient to feel safe and welcome while here, and I love coaxing smiles from them. Even better is when I can make them laugh and start building a friendship, which strengthens as they move through treatment. Im a clinical hygienist, and provide assistance to our doctors during procedures. I also teach patients about proper oral hygiene while theyre wearing their braces, so theyll have a beautiful smile at the end of treatment.

My name is Gabrielle and I have been a dental hygienist at Faber Orthodontics since 2019. I teach patients oral hygiene, change wires on braces, and take X-ray records on new or existing patients. I also frequently use the iTero scanner for making molds of teeth for Invisalign cases or retainers. I am grateful to be apart of such a great work team.

I am seeing Dr. Richard Faber for an intense treatment plan ahead of maxillofacial surgery. He is meticulous and expert as well as good natured and patient, willing to spend extra time to help you understand exactly how your treatment will help you reach your end goal. Dr. Farber was recomended to us by our wonderful dentist as a second opinion for a complicated dental situation. We called and the kind Joanne was able to find a time for us on upcoming Saturday. Friday 6pm we received the call from the doctor asking if we have any questions, issues prior to our appointment... who does it nowadays? It was a good indication how the practiced is run - personable and caring. On the day of the appointment we were greeted by 2 doctors, both Dr. Faber so we realized it's a father and son practice, they were operating precise team. We spent more then an hour with the father in the exam room and then at his office. He went over all the options with us, never spoke a bad word about other practice or encouraged us to switch. He was professional, knowlegible, trustworthy and caring. We felt very comfortable, not rushed and were able to discuss every option available for my son. Every patient in this practice is in the individual room, we loved it. Will be back.
