Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Shih graduated from Kaoushiung Medical University in 1987 with a Bachelors degree in Dentistry. In Taiwan, he practiced Orthodontics and General Dentistry. In 1993, he received his Doctorate degree from the prestigious Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He was on the deans list during his academic study, he obtained his California License before graduation & also passed the Northeastern Regional Board exam with the highest score in clinical examination. This is considered as the highest compliment to him & to his beloved Northwestern University Dental School.
In dental Implants and sedation dentistry, Dr. Shih has helped thousands of patients restore their smile using implants. He is one of few dentists who has completed and received all surgical, restorative and laboratory certification in Branemarks Implant System. To advance his implant placement technique, Dr. Shih went to NYU and trained with a world known Oral Surgeon and Professor Dr. Richard A Kraut at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, New York. In San Diego, Dr. Shih is recognized as a leading dentist, specializing in using advanced Minimal invasive and flapless methods for dental and implant treatments.
After practicing General and Implant Dentistry in Upland, California for many years; then Dr. Shih moved to San Diego and practiced Restorative, Implant and Orthodontics Dentistry in Scripps Ranch for 11 years. In 2012, Dr. Shih relocated his practice to Mira Mesa and decided to build a brand new state-of-the-art facility. A facility designed to cater from young children to their adult family members. Services also expanded from routine dental care, Sedation dental surgery and Orthodontics dental care to a more advanced dental spa setting to accommodate his new Microscopic, dental Lasers and EZ One-visit CAD/CAM service. Dr. Shih is also one of independent Dental/TMJ consultant specialists for the US military VA Medical in great San Diego area
Committed to providing innovative treatment solutions, Dr. Shih researched and developed bio-efficient brackets with a new technology, known as the Shismart Technique. In fact, in the San Diego area, Dr. Shih is known as the Dentist of Fast Bio-efficient Braces. and received Winter 2013 Award of 'TOP DOCTOR AWARD' from HealthTap and his 'America 's Top Dentists' for many years. To stay abreast of the latest advancements in dentistry, he maintains professional memberships with the San Diego County Dental Society, the California Dental Association and American Dental Society.

I never really write reviews, but I had quite an unusual experience. I needed a new dentist since I have different insurance, so I found this place with seem to have pretty good review I thought. Overall, the Dr. Shih was nice. However, the assistant which I learn she is also the manager was quite passive, disrespectful and didn't deliver any patient care manner. I give two stars because they seem to be careful with preventing COVID and Dr. Shih was nice and did great with the cleaning.

Dr Shih is probably one of the most hard working, patient, and caring dentist we have ever met. He takes great care of his patients with outstanding results, not only did he bare a long process with us, but did a phenomenal job and provided excellent care throughout the process.

Receptionist, also the wife of the dentist is hella rude. Its crazy they text back instead of calling you. She is the worst receptionist i ever encountered.

Omg! This receptionist lady, i think her name was Stephanie. I believe she's also the wife of the Dentist. She was the rudest receptionist we have ever encountered. Working on any medical field, they should understand patients are going to be apprehensive. I would really love to get into details, but it be way too long. I never post any kinds of negative comments, ever, but in this case it was necessary. This receptionist lady really need to be more understanding and kind to the patients.

So many pros: The staff at the reception are so good with the appointments, communicating with insurance etc. They are competent & very friendly. I feel confident in their ability. This was totally worth the drive for me.

A friend referred me to EZ Smiles back in 2016 and I have been going ever since. They have a really great staff who are always friendly and respectful. When you walk into the place, it is always super clean and well-kept. I am always in and out in no time. Dr. Shih is awesome!

I'd like to give 0 stars. My husband went here because it was covered by his insurance. They didn't even do a standard cleaning which is what I made the appointment for. Instead, they did an exam and lied to him. They said he had several cavities and needed his wisdom teeth removed urgently. I wanted him to do these procedures with my dentists even though it wouldn't be covered by his insurance. We went for the appointment today and Dr. Friedman at MOD squad said he didn't need anything done. His teeth are still perfect! Don't go to EZSmile for anything. Now they're lying that he wasn't a patient without even knowing his name because I didn't include it in my review. I'm happy to post the the insurance claim for his exam:
