These guys are horrible. DONT GO HERE! They gave my wife the run around and cancelled her appointments more than twice and then told her to go to a different office in Novato. They also want to charge for a copy of the x-rays. The cost is more than what we actually paid for initially. Don't go here, one of the worst places I've been. Edit. The owners response is a joke. Nobody bullied the "staff", as we've had multiple cancellations on their side. Read the owners responses in some of the other reviews, how unprofessional. I encourage everyone reading to look elsewhere. Just go to yelp and look at all the 1 star reviews. These guys are shady. I'm going back to my original dentist, and would rather pay the extra money. Don't go here, just read the other reviews.

I went for an initial appointment for X-rays, a check-up, and hopefully a cleaning. The assistant took X-rays and then Dr. Behradnia came in for a 5-minute check. Dr. Behrdadnia was unfriendly and irritated by my few questions. He then turned me over to Gloria, the "Treatment Plan" presentation lady. I believe they tried to sell me services I did not need, IMO. 1. EZ Smile's Gloria told me I needed a four-session "deep cleaning" treatment plan that would cost me $1,156 more than what Delta USA insurance would cover for "deep cleaning". The extra $1,156 would be for additional antibiotic gel and topical fluoride beyond what Delta covers for normal "deep cleaning". I asked Gloria why I needed a deep cleaning since Dr. Behradnia had not mentioned it during his brief check. Gloria went to ask Dr.Behradnia to explain, he was at his desk on the phone, and he shouted "I already told him, I'm busy!" Next, I asked for copies of the x-rays to be emailed to me that they had taken. Gloria said they would release them only if I paid a $40 fee for it, which I did. I then left the office. Most dental offices do not charge a fee for emailing X-rays. After I left I felt suspicious of Dr. Behradnia's treatment plan and phoned Gloria and said that I wanted to decline the deep cleaning and instead have a regular cleaning. She said it would be unethical for them not to do a deep cleaning. I replied I thought it was my right to request a regular cleaning as I had always received from my previous dentists. I told her I was going to call Delta Dental and ask about it, that I would perhaps compose a Yelp review, and that I wanted to get a second opinion. I also mentioned my wife had worked at a dental office and she had looked at my gums and said they looked healthy. Gloria curtly said "then have your wife clean your teeth" and hung up the phone without saying goodbye. I believe that EZ Smile was trying to up-sell me for extra profit. One week later I went back to my trusted, well-known, and highly regarded family dentist of 30 years. He looked at my X-rays and checked all of my gums with a periodontal probe and said the gums were healthy, that appeared to be no problem with infected pockets, and that the deep cleaning was not needed. Dr. Behradnia had not checked my gums with a probe. I have always brushed my teeth two or three times a day and flossed daily. 2. Dr. Behradnia had also noticed I had a broken lower 2nd molar and he said it would need a crown and an extra $108 core "buildup" and procedure to hold the crown that was not covered by my Delta USA insurance. Dr. Behradnia also said that perhaps it needed a root canal treatment. Gloria said a gold crown was not covered, and that my additional cost for the porcelain crown would be $533, plus $325 for the required "Brand Znext, Crystal Zirc/Emax" upgrade (required by Dr. B) so it had to be a composite material. In total, my crown job was to cost me $1,156 and Delta would cover the rest. So, once again the following week at my trusted family dentist for a second opinion, he says there is no need for the additional "buildup" procedure and that it did not need a root canal. Then and there my family dentist proceeded to fit a temporary crown and is now in the process of producing a GOLD crown for my second visit in two weeks. 3. Seven years ago I had accidentally fallen and knocked out a front incisor. My trusted family doctor had plugged it back in and put a splint on it. Dr. Behradnia at EZ Smile took one look at the x-ray and said the root is very diminished, that I needed a root canal, and that then he would start a "treatment program" for it. Again, the following week for a second opinion at my trusted family dentist, he looks at the X-ray of the front incisor and tells me the tooth looks good, that the root is healthy, and it does not need a root canal. He says we "leave it alone." Update: EZ Smile's response was disingenuous. EZ Smiles attempts to over charge me for services that I didn't need were scandalous. It had nothing to do with the insurance company.

Nice staff but watch out for "Dr B" because he DOES NOT have your best interests in mind. Plan on an extra big bill after some terrible dentistry.

Denita, the office manager is less that professional, lacking compassion and serves up attitude freely.

Staff is friendly. They took X-rays and then the Dr came in and immediately told me that I needed a deep cleaning, which I assumed and that I had two teeth needing crowns. He did a test to see if I felt pain which I did not. Then told me what else I needed. They drew up a list with pricing totally close to $5,000. Had me sign off very quickly-I would have liked to look up some of the terms but felt pressured. Last night I did not feel well and left a message to cancel todays' cleaning. I got a call telling me that I owed $200 for a cancellation after their 48 hour window and I clearly was upset and did raise my voice a bit, and she hung up on me. I read other reviews that described the exact same treatment plan. I had a little concern while there that they ran me through pretty quickly. I will not go back.

Very poorly manage place, 3 years ago I cancelled my appointment, they agreed, and they billed me for the cancelation fee TODAY. Where were you 3 years ago! Anyway, the other thing is, I got temp crown, which was bleed next couple days, I asked them what I should do? They said come after 4 pm, I went there, and DT gave me a tooth paste, and they billed $150! They Diagnose a Lot of Procedures Not Covered By Insurance! Beware! Hopefully someone reads it!

I have just filed a grievance with Kaiser Advantage Plus (my current health care plan) and Delta Dental in regard to unethical billing practices by EZ Smile Family Dental Group in San Rafael and will be taking my business elsewhere. Like others who have posted critical reviews, I have long suspected that this organization, under the direction of Dr. Behradnia, has been recommending unnecessary treatments, inflating my bills with unnecessary charges, and even charging me for services covered by my health plan (i.e. quick, perfunctory cleanings they were falsely billing as "periodontal maintenance"). I only wish the excellent dentists who work there--- a charming and extremely competent young woman from Kenya, Dr. Hiyab, and the equally competent Dr. Pronstroller from the Philippines---would find employment elsewhere. I would give both of them high ratings for the work they did on my teeth and feel certain they have nothing to do with the shady billing practices at EZ Smile Family Dental Group.

Having just turned age 65, I received Dental USA insurance through Kaiser. Delta Dental referred me to the EZ Smile Family Dental Group chain in San Rafael within Delta USA's network. At first I thought this place was great, in the end though the reception wasn't very helpful, the whitening was pointless, and they suggested FAR more work then my follow up dentist.

Went in for a cleaning and had a great experience. The wait was short enough to not be too annoying, and I thought the staff was nice. I like that they review costs with you ahead of time. I took off a star because they make you sign this dumb form that states you won't leave a negative review or else you'll get fined. Um....you can't do that....and they did a good job so just let your work speak for itself! Don't try to intimidate people to only leave positive reviews. I get it that you want to manage your reputation, but.....

I am a care-giver and just today I've never seen something so dispeakable ever happen in a professional medical facility where my patient was treated so poorly to the extent causing him a great deal of amount of distress and even elderly abuse by dentists. Everyone please, please, please do not condone this type of behavior and abuse!! So unprofessional especially when you are "Yelling" at an old lady and telling her to leave immediately! who is in her late 70's sooo disgusting!!!

Finding a reliable dentist for yourself is not an easy task, but to me this was an easy sailing. EZSmile in San Rafael have a superb dental center, which is well equipped and manned by experienced cosmetic dental surgeons. More than the cosmetic dental surgery, I enjoyed a true peace of mind.
