Dr. Doan was born in Saigon, Vietnam and came to Florida when he was only one year old. Raised in Sanford, Florida, he graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a minor in Fine Arts. He received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 1999. Following this, he completed a general practice residency at New York Hospital with an emphasis on management of medically compromised patients and aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry. During his residency program, Dr. Doan was awarded Resident of the Year and the first ever Dr. Lawrence Diamond Award for excellence in all aspects of treating gum disease. He found himself and his wife, Linda, planting roots in the Sarasota area and acquiring the practice of Dr. Thomas W. Cail in August 2002, renaming it to Exceptional Dentistry of Sarasota.
Dr. Doan consistently strives for excellence in all aspects of reconstructive and aesthetic dentistry. He is a graduate of the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Studies. A sustaining member of the American College of Dentists, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, Sarasota County Dental Association, Sarasota Study Club, Spear Study Club, SaraGators Dental Study Club, and CEREC Study Club. In 2019, he became the President of the Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and Fellow of the American College of Dentists. Dr. Doan regularly attends hundreds of hours of continuing education courses each year across America to expand his professional horizons and to keep up to date on the very latest techniques.
Alongside his academic achievements, he and his wife Linda have established, organized and now lead a dedicated team of local dentists and their staffs in an annual charity designed to give back to the underserved community called Project Christmas Smile since 2002-2020. This grassroots dental community effort provides a day of free dentistry during the Christmas holidays with the hope that no one has to wake up Christmas morning with a toothache. In conjunction with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, he is also a participant in the Give Back a Smile Program where we offer free oral rehabilitation to victims of domestic violence. During the 2006 meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry meeting in San Diego, he was honored with the Partners for Peace Award for his charitable contributions. Gulf Coast Magazine recognized him as one of the top forty Sarasota business persons under age forty (40 Under 40) in 2005. Both him and his wife are Ambassadors for the Make A Wish Foundation. Locally since 2012-2020, he has been awarded by his dental peeps and Sarasota Magazine as being Top Dentist. In 2018, he was voted as a Best Local Dentist Finalist by SRQ Magazine, but subsequently in following years awarded as the Best Local Dentist in Sarasota in 2019 and 2020.
Beyond all of his achievements, his interests are in martial arts (Kendo and Karate), arts, photography, music, cooking, reading, tennis, travel, automobiles, and philanthropy. Dr. Doan is, above all, a family man who enjoys time with his wife Linda, his three daughters Mischa , Esme, and Elan, and their Boston terrier, Cycy and Chihuahua/Pug, Lela.

Dr. Thomas Doan, and his assistant, Lindsey, are professional, and do superb work. I would recommend them without reservation, and Mr. Knute is a great hygienist with a sense of humor. My wife and I have utilized their services for 10 years, and have never been disappointed. I might add, the practice has state of the art technology, and it does make a difference.

I have been going to Exceptional Dentistry for a number of years. The reason I go (other than the need for dentistry) is because of Dr. Doan, Dr. Suarez, Knute Malwin and all the other people who work there.They are a team of pro's with terrific expertise and who are generous and warm in all of their interactions with you. They truly represent the best in oral care and I honestly look forward to my appointments. Now who else can say that about their dentist's office??

I am new to the area and needed a dentist. This practice was recommended by a neighbor. From making the appointment, to the the preliminary exam, and the cleaning, everything was terrific. Everyone was very professional. Dr. Suarez was wonderful. She listened to my concerns, and answered all my questions in an easy to understand manner. I am glad this will be my new dentist. We even had some laughs along the way. I highly recommend this practice if your looking for a new dentist. They are great.

Knowledgeable staff and great service! I had cracked a tooth and I am in transition to moving to the area so I have not secured a dentist yet. Exceptional Dentistry came recommended from someone I know so I gave it a try. They were more than accommodating on the phone to assist me in completing what was necessary to become a patient. The office staff was beyond friendly on the phone and in person. Dr. Christina Suarez was fantastic in addressing my needs.

Dr. Cole, and her team, with Exceptional Dentistry are well deserving of 5 stars. She is by far the best dentist I have ever had, I am so happy I decided to switch over to them. She is professional and you can tell she truly cares about her patients. They provide expert care while making it a very enjoyable experience. Their office is also great with scheduling and communication. 10/10 recommend.
