A native of North Wilmington, Dr. Amanda Matthews has been practicing dentistry in the area since 2012 and is thrilled to open her new practice. She graduated from the Tatnall School and completed her undergraduate education at the University of Delaware, graduating summa cum laude with an honors degree in biology and minors in biochemistry, psychology, and Spanish.
Dr. Matthews went on to complete her dental education at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with multiple honors. She returned to Delaware to advance her training with a residency program at Christiana Cares Wilmington Hospital.
For Dr. Matthews, dental care is about more than just teeth; it is an extension of overall health and wellness. Dr. Matthews is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Delaware State Dental Society, and is active in local study clubs. She has spent hundreds of hours studying at the prestigious Spear Institute and is a member of their Faculty Club. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, hiking, running, cooking, and spending time with her husband, Brian, and daughter, Ava.
Dr. Edward Bayley was born and raised in Delaware. He graduated from the Tatnall School and from there went on to get an Honors BA in Biological Sciences at theUniversity of Delaware, graduating Summa Cum Laude. During these years, Dr. Bayley was passionate about science and art, and enjoyed painting in the genre of Photorealism. His interest in dentistry began while searching for a career that would combine science and artistry. Dr. Bayley completed his dental education at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, and from there went into the Christiana Care general practice residency program at Wilmington Hospital.
Dr. Bayley embraces the practice philosophies of evidence-based, conservative and esthetically-driven dentistry. Each patient presents a unique story and has unique needs. Dr. Bayley takes the time to design a treatment plan that meets the patients goals and addresses their chief concerns.
In his work, Dr. Bayley strives for detail and results that look natural. He stays current with restorative technologies such as Cerec computer-aided design and dental implants. He is active in his local Spear Study Club and the Spear Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Bayley is a member of the Delaware State Dental Society, The American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Marie is a native of Brookhaven, PA and has been working in dental offices for 20 years. What she loves about her job is getting to know the patients and families, as well as building a rapport with them. She also enjoys walking patients through the 'fine print' of dental insurance so they have a better understanding of it.
Barb graduated from Howard High School of Technology with certifications in both Dental Assisting and X-ray Operation. She has been a dental assistant for 17 years, spending the last 8 years working with Dr. Amanda Matthews. What she enjoys about her job is helping and educating patients so they better understand the treatments and services they're receiving.

I cannot say enough good things about the staff and Dr. Matthews at Exceptional Dentistry. I had a chipped bridge and they were able to get me in the next day. The team was kind and professional. I had an appointment and waited only five minutes to be taken back. Dr. Matthews explained my situation and options to me in a warm, and caring manner. She walked me though each step in the process to repair the bridge. I was in and out of the chair in less then 50 minutes and everything has been great since the repair which has been over a week. I was very anxious going into the office and was at ease in 5 minutes. The entire team is caring and professional. They even submitted my claim to my insurance company for me. I am glad I found this practice and will be going back for all my dental needs and would highly recommend them to family and friends. Keep up the amazing job!

Scheduled times are honored much better than in many other offices where I have been treated. The staff is absolutely friendly and professional. My dentist, Dr. Edward Bayley, is very easy to talk to, and does take his time to explain procedures and options. I do appreciate all them very much.

I was told by another dentist I needed a root canal but was also told the were no longer in-network with my dental insurance. A coworker recommended Exceptional Dentistry and when I found out they were in-network I read their bios and was impressed! I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Bayley and was thrilled with the care he took to evaluate my options. I am bringing my entire family to their practice!

We had to switch because of an insurance change, so I was a little worried, but we have been twice with all four of my children and both experiences were amazing. The facility is clean and well taken care of. The receptionists are friendly and helpful. My children were actually excited about going to the dentist. They loved watching the TVs and the hygienists took great care of my children who are between the ages of 5 and 12. The dentist was open, honest, and friendly. Looking forward to continuing our relationship with the office.

Phenomenal Work by Dr. Mathews and Team! State of the art dental technology, proficient staff and Dr. Mathews explained every step as she fixed my broken tooth #12, which had to be replaced with a crown. I watched a 3D image of my gum and teeth photographed, along with a CAD creation of my new crown. I entered at 1PM and left at 3:30PM with a new crown in one day ...absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!!!

Office staff was rude and both girls were condescending. NOT a pleasant visit on 5/17/2022. They tried to "rip me off" for a 20% co-pay I did not owe! I showed proof of 100% isurance coverage to dentist but she did nothing! Make sure you owe the co-pay they charge you!!

Dr. Matthews is on the top of the tier. Honest, kind, and gentle. They spent a lot of time working with insurance estimates for me and I found them to be very upfront, transparent, and helpful. Came for the expertise, staying for the phenomenal care I feel here.

I had a great first experience at Exceptinal Dentistry. Everyone was so sweet and welcoming; Maria was very receptive and kind. She scheduled my appointment and made sure it worked with my baby schedule because I just had a baby 4 weeks ago and hadn't had my teeth checked in a while. I was attended to by Dr Edward Bayley and my X-ray was done by Ummil. They make you feel relaxed even though most people dread going to the dentist, the clinic is very clean and organized. They did an amazing job cleaning and examining my teeth. I felt very happy with the service here and look forward to coming here for all my dental needs.

This is the best dentist office I have ever visited! Which is saying a lot since I'm in the Army and have probably seen close to 25 different offices both on bases and off over the last 20 years! From the front desk to the hygienist and dentists, everyone is so nice and welcoming! Can't recommend this office enough.

Very pleasant experience, as someone who is new to the area and was looking for a new dentist, I had a very good experience at Exceptional Dentistry. Everyone on staff was courteous and professional, including my hygienist during my visit - Helen did a wonderful job.
