Dr. Tony K. Yoon is originally from San Francisco, California. He received his bachelors degree (B.S. Biochemistry)from the University of California at San Diego and hisdental degree (D.D.S.) from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Yoon then served eight total years as a general dentist in the US Army where healso completed a 1 year Advanced Education in General DentistryResidency (AEGD) in that time. After his honorable discharge from active duty, Dr. Yoon went on tocompletehis endodontic residency at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Yoon is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association andMaryland State Dental Association.
When not at the office, Dr. Yoon, enjoys spending time with his family: his wife Alexis and two children 8 year old Jianna and 6 year old Noah. He is an avid follower of all major sports, loves the sun and any outdoor activities, and is willing to try various foods or dine 'the next best restaurant.'
Dr. Loken M. Patel grew up in Central New York, where he received his bachelor's degree (B.S.) in molecular biology from Colgate University. He then completed his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (D.M.D) from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Patel pursued an additional year in post graduate training with the US Army in their Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program. As an Army Captain, he was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado;Yongsan, South Korea; and Ft. Myer, Virginia. Dr. Patel was honorably discharged from the US Army in the rank of Major. Dr. Patel completed his post doctorate in Endodontics at Rutgers University.
Dr. Patel is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Assocation and the Northern Virginian Dental Society. Heis a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and has been in practice for over 13years. He loves spending time with his wife and daughter when not at the office.

Dr. Yoon is wonderful!! I had my first root canal today. I was nervous, but Dr. Yoon took the time to explain to me why I needed a root canal, the procedure, and follow up that would be needed after. He answered all my questions and it really helped put my mind at ease. He did a great job of numbing my mouth and I felt no pain during the root canal. His assistant and the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a great experience!

I went to Excel Dental Specialties in Nov 2022 to receive my first root canal ever. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous as I had only heard terrible things about root canals. To my surprise, the procedure was extremely uneventful! Dr. Patel and the assistant, Brooke, were amazing. Super friendly, put me at ease, made sure I was comfortable and relaxed, and the procedure itself was very straightforward. Dr. Patel checked on me several times to make sure I was doing OK, and he explained the various steps before and after the procedure. Sandra (the receptionist?) called the next day to make sure I was doing ok (I was completely fine - no swelling, aches or pains!). The entire service was incredible from start to finish. I highly recommend Excel Dental Specialities.

The front desk was friendly and I was able to be worked in quickly for my procedure. Dr. Yoon was also friendly and knowledgeable. Most importantly, he is good at what he does. He made the procedure as painless as possible, listened to me and answered any questions I had. I will absolutely return if I ever need anymore endodontic work done. I had the best experience Possible for my root canal today. Zero pain during or after at home. This was a professional personable office who was taking every precaution with the Covid virus. Just an absolutely perfect visit. Dr Yoon is fantastic. Thank you

Wow! I was beside myself going into Excel for a root canal. I've already had two and they were both very stressful but I managed to white knuckle through both of them. With Dr. Yoon it was a total breeze where I could have fallen asleep. He was extremely gentle and the entire office was very kind. Kudos to Excel Dental Specialties!

Dr. Yoon and his staff at Excel are the absolute BEST! He is so gentle and thorough. He's the best at explaining things, takes his time with you and makes you feel like the most important patient he has. The staff is AMAZING! They actually played the Grateful Dead (my favorite) for me during my procedure so I'd be calm! Talk about going above and beyond! Melissa is absolutely WONDERFUL, too! I can't say enough about Excel and how wonderful they are! Everyone I've dealt with there have been absolutely top notch! 5 star, I highly recommend them!

Everyone there is very helpful and makes you feel comfortable. Dr. Patel was very helpful and completed my root canal treatment that was totally painless. They are the best!

The staff here at Excel Dental Specialties are professional, courteous and really care for your health and wellbeing. They treat you like family, from the moment you call them, thru the time that you leave their office. The atmosphere and environment is comfortable and soothing. They take the time to ensure you are well informed on your event, along with each and every option to address your event. I thought I was going in for just an evaluation, but they were prepared and said they could proceed with treatment that day. I was apprehensive, but Dr. Patel and his staff assured me that they could be quick, painless and effective. They were it was almost a pleasant procedure.

I was referred to EDS because I needed a root canal. When I asked my dentist why she referred me to them instead of doing it herself, she said because EDS specializes in root canals (i.e. endodontics) and that they are the best in the area. My dentist was right - they did an absolutely super job. My last root canal was a terrible experience. But this one, done by Dr. Patel, was so very much better. It was fast & with no pain. I will definitely return to EDS if I ever need another root canal. They are an excellent dental care provider.
