I enjoyed my visit with Dr. Wheeler. After visiting a number of other dentists in town from Affordable, and 4 corners, it can be a bit of a contrast working with an older dentist who is much slower overall. I feel he overfilled my filling, which took more time to bring down to the proper level. In the end he did a fine job, and polished the tooth to perfection. If you're a person prone to higher anxiety you may not appreciate the extra time in the chair though. One thing that was disappointing about this shop is they expect payment up front, even when they bill insurance and get pre-approval. Certainly good for them, but not so good for the patient who has to put the cash up front. Not exactly good customer service in my opinion. Most doctors who bill insurance don't charge you up front. It's understood if the insurance fails, the patient is ultimately responsible. I don't like this policy, and it's just about a deal breaker for me, but there's a minimum number of dentists who accept Medicaid in town. For lower income people, I feel they could do a lot more to help. Waiting a month plus for insurance to pay when you're short on cash can be hard, and they have far greater resources then me. I've been here a few more times since this review. Dr. Wheeler performed a re-treatment of a root canal, and service was top-notch. He also did some fine tuning for an occlusion (bite adjustment), and he really took the time to figure out where the problem was coming from. I've really come to respect him a lot more, and continue to see him. Staff is fun and friendly!

Have gone here for about 5 years. Finally switched dentists when I went to Dr. Wheeler with specific teeth pains and his staff did fillings on different teeth for a different problems. They shrugged and said it may help with the original pains (it didn't). My family has also gone to him and has had countless fixed teeth and fillings chipped or fall out, suggesting poor dentistry. I agree with other reviewers about payment; They asked me to pay $400 up front for wisdom teeth surgery and then had me pay an additional $1,000+ at my follow up. I know they can't control everything but that was a significant price difference from what they told me.

Dr. Wheeler and his entire staff (front office included!) are all amazing. They are really willing to work with you and make sure your visit is as comfortable and pleasant as possible. They are also contracted with several insurance companies, (including military) as preferred providers. My family has been going to Dr. Wheeler for over 15 years and have never had a bad experience. I was sad to read another reviewer mentioning the front office being unprofessional because we have never been treated anything but professionally and courteously.

I have been going here since I was a kid, great staff. I had my wisdom teeth out here and they really did a wonderful job. Dr Wheeler and staff are really good at anticipating the pain of the person being worked on...don't know quite how to describe it but during tooth removal or cavity filling they always know without my saying anything and do what they can to make the procedure comfortable.

I have been going to this office with my children for 20 years, and the last few times I have gone in, the wait staff in very rude and talk behind your back. Today I went in and being from out of town they did not inform me that there was road construction and nearly missed the appointment. When I finally got there, I told her that it would be nice for them to tell their clients of the road construction so that clients would be more likely to make the appointments. You would think that this would be a common courtesy but instead I got attitude. She said "well if you haven't noticed, it's been going on for months" and I said "oh, I didn't know that, remember we are out of town. And she said " well I dont know you personally, so how would I know that?" I said "you would look at the chart, I've been coming here for 20 years." She said, " well I haven't been here 20 years so whatever" and I just said, " well it would be nice for your clients, is all I was saying." I also sat and listened to them argue with another lady as I sat there. She was trying to be very nice, but they are just rude. I'm telling you, this place used to be great, but in the last 3 years I would have to tell you to take your business somewhere else. These young ladies in this office are rude and dont care about the office they work in at all. No respect at all. So sad. I'd move my business, but this is the last one anyway. Kids are grown up and on.

Dr. Wheeler is and awesome dentist that really cares about his patients. I developed tooth pain in the evening on December 28th. By the next morning I knew I needed to see the dentist and called his office and left a message since there was no answer. I got a call back later that afternoon from one of his hygienists who explained that they were closed (due to the upcoming New Year's holiday and the Doc. had travel plans) but due to the nature of my issue she wanted to set an appointment for when they were next open (Tuesday, Jan. 3rd) I normally take something for anxiety before a dental appointment but since I do not have a prescription for anything he calls it in before each appointment. She said she would give him a call. He called me within the hour to discuss the issue and it was then that I found out that he was actually already traveling. Turns out he was in the Seattle airport waiting on his connecting flight when he called me back. We discussed my issue and he called in prescriptions for antibiotics so they could get busy working right away. I really appreciated his prompt attention to my issue and his willingness to take the time while he is already on vacation; it demonstrates that his compassion and concern for his patients is truly genuine. His staff deserves a high five as well as they are always courteous and patient with my million questions. They are a group of fine folks at the Alaska Interior Dental Group that deserve kudos and high-fives all around!
