Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic or plastic, and can be fixed on to the teeth or removable. Regardless of which type of appliance, the method to move the teeth is essentially the same. We place a constant, gentle force in a controlled direction to slowly move the teeth to their ideal positions.
In the past, the term metal mouth had an obvious meaning metal brackets were placed around each tooth, making the treatment highly visible. Today, brackets are much smaller and more efficient. You can even choose clear braces to ensure they blend in as much as possible. Todays wires and materials are also more efficient, allowing teeth to move faster and more comfortably than ever before.
Treatment time varies for each patient and can last anywhere from six months to three years. The amount of time you spend in treatment will depend on your age, treatment option, and the severity of your issue. You also play an important role in your treatment time. The more diligent you are in following your orthodontists instructions, the faster your treatment will be.

Dr. Estes grew up in Walnut Creek and is proud to be a Bay Area native. She knows first hand how a beautiful smile and properly aligned bite can impact ones self-esteem and confidence. Dr. Estes loves to being an orthodontist because of the positive changes she is able to make in the lives of her patients.
Dr. Estes and her husband, Stephen, have been married since 2015. They love spending time outdoors snowboarding, hiking and backpacking are some of their favorite activities. They also enjoy cooking, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with family, friends and their doc, Cooper.
Dr. Brehnan completed his orthodontic residency at the University of California San Francisco. He has taught in the dental assisting programs at Contra Costa College and Diablo Valley college. Dr. Brehnan has published articles in numerous publications, such as The Journal of Dental Research, and he has presented research papers and national and international meetings, such as The International Association of Dental Research. He also appeared on an ABC TV show to discuss adult orthodontics.
Dr. Brehnan is married to Ilinka and father to Nicole, Alexander and Stefan. Dr. Brehnan loves being a father and being active in his childrens lives. In his spare time, he enjoys running, exercising, sailing and tennis.

My whole family has had orthodontic treatment through Dr Estes in the last couple years and we are all smiling wider now as a result! Speaking for myself, as a 'brace-face' and 'headgear-geek' of the 80s, I was traumatized enough back then, yet I never realized that bruxism would bring me back to another round of treatment.....I have to thank Dr Estes and my family for inspiring me to give it a go with Invisalign this time and I must admit..... Best and easiest and least invasive investment ever! Dr Estes and her staff are gentle, efficient and kind... it's amazing the volume of people who are going in fearful and with frowns but coming out smiling and happy.... Testament to the amazing work being done there. Give it a go if you're thinking about it... it's worth it, every time you will look in the mirror or have people comment on your new smile.

I begin my braces journey in my early ages and they were great , however due to underlying circumstances I had to stop . Now that I'M older, Im able to afford my braces myself . Ive been well taken care of . They are very helpful and super nice. Besides that they provide great orthodontist care and instructions.

My child is very adverse to anyone being in or near her mouth (she hates toothpaste even). Dr. Estes has been amazing and patient with her. Dr. Estes even put her braces on over two appointments rather than one to accommodate my nervous girl. Now it's easy every appointment because Dr. Estes didn't rush her or make it uncomfortable at the beginning. We've had an awesome experience and highly recommend Dr. Estes.

I had a friend, who's one of their patients, recommend them to me since I had a previously bad experience with another orthodontist. Staff is very friendly and Dr. Estes was very thoroughly in explaining the procedure to me. Every time I've gone in, the staff are always kind and welcoming to me. I really feel comfortable coming here and would recommend this place to anyone!

I was a patient of Este ortho when I was younger, now that I have my 13 year old who needed braces. They were my first option! They took great care of her and was very patient and understanding. Great team work from the front office to the assistants. Thank you again!

As an adult I knew I needed braces, but I wasn't looking forward to getting them. Nevertheless Dr. Estes and her staff made the process smooth and easy. Their upfront price policy was excellent. No surprise fees so I had no problems incorporating the cost into my budget. I hope my daughter does not need braces, but if she does I would not hesitate to work with Dr. Estes office again.

Estes Orthdontics is AMAZING ! The entire staff is very welcoming and genuinely caring for not only their patients but the parents as well. They fixed my 8yr old son smile in a quickness. I started my invisalign treatment with Estes Orthodontics in April of 2019. From the beginning everyone from the front desk to the assistants to Dr. Estes herself have been very kind & attentive! Dr. Estes made sure to always ask me how i liked my teeth so far, made sure to answer any questions i had & always made sure i was comfortable during a check up. I have no complaints coming here & I actually just finished my treatment with them & love the results! I would definitely recommend them!
