Dr. Essey is originally from Monessen, Pennsylvania and graduated from Monessen High in 1982. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Washington and Jefferson College in 1986 and his D.M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1990.
At graduation, Dr. Essey received the Zugsmith Award given to outstanding seniors, the Academy of Oral Medicine Award given on a national basis to dentists for achievement, proficiency and promise in the field of oral medicine and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology Award for an article he authored and presented at the national convention in 1990. Upon graduation, Dr. Essey began residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and completed his residency at Montefiore University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 1991. He served as Assistant Program Director.
Dr. Essey then practiced dentistry as an associate in a Monroeville office until 1994 when he purchased his present practice in Harmar. Dr. Essey has held teaching positions at Westmoreland County Community College as a Pathology faculty instructor and the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in the Department of Oral Medicine.
On December 15 2008, Dr. Essey and his staff moved into a beautiful new state of the art practice in RIDC park located in O'Hara township. Dr. Essey married a Cheswick native, Beth Perry, in 1993 and resides in Fox Chapel with Beth and daughters Katelyn, Margeaux and Hanna.

Cindy doubles as one of our front desk patient coordinators and also Dr. Essey's chairside assistant. Whether you are scheduling treatment or having a procedure you will have the pleasure of working with Cindy! She has been invested in the dental field since 1997. She is a wife to her husband Mark and mother to Brandi, Dustin, and Destiny and Grandmother to Rilynn Kay.
Marge has been with Dr. Essey for 16 of her 42 years of practice. She has a busy family life with her husband, two daughters, and two grandchildren. She loves riding her horse, walking her 2 dogs, and playing with her cat.Caitlin has worked in the dental field for the last6 years. She started her career as a dental hygienist3 years ago with Dr. Essey. She and her husband Ryanwelcomed a baby boyin January 2018, andthey have a labradoodle named Rooney! Aside from dental hygiene, Caitlin enjoys being outside, spending time with her family, and cheering on Pittsburgh sports.

Dr. Essey firmly believes and is committed to continuing education to further his understanding of the ever changing treatment modalities available to provide a modern, safe and comfortable environment. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, Seattle Study Club, as well as the Spear Study Club. He has completed a one year Peer Practicum in implant dentistry sponsored by Zimmer implants and a similar 8 month program sponsored by Astra-Zeneca. We continually update technologies to all areas of the office. Recently we purchased a new computer network for the new office. This network will enable us to operate with greater efficiency and communicate quickly with specialists, insurers and laboratories. Dr. Essey incorporated digital radiography into his practice in 1999 and is one of the earliest users of the Dexis Digital Radiography systems which continues to be a leader in digital dental radiography. Digital radiographs require much less (60% to 90%) radiation to create an image than traditional film- based techniques. This technology allows for improved image quality and more images with less radiation exposure. Dr. Essey also utilizes the Patient Gallery Digital Imaging software package. Digital Imaging facilitates better communication with the patient by viewing the problems in the mouth on a large color monitor in real time or freezing the images and printing a photo. These photos can be sent electronically to labs for better shade matching and overall improved cosmetic results. Digital Imaging also permits Dr. Essey to take photographs and then digitally alter these images to help give the patient a sense, visually, of what the anticipated cosmetic procedure outcome may look like before the procedures are even performed. Our newly installed state-of-the-art operatory equipment coupled with our digital software packages are all intended to facilitate the high standard of care you should expect.
