Root canal therapy is arguably among the most maligned medical treatments, let alone dental treatments! In fact, in an American Association of Endodontists survey from 2012, more respondents reported that they would rather speak publicly or have a job interview than undergo root canal treatment. Put another way, this treatment is as feared as being a passenger on a plane flying through a storm! As specialists in this non-surgical therapy and endodontic surgical treatments at Endodontic Associates of Georgia in Atlanta, we find this survey to be unfortunate. There are many myths at play, which have contributed to unfounded fears over this common, safe, painless, fast, and healthy approach to treating a severely damaged tooth.

False! Also, the root canals themselves are a part of the tooth that is accessed during treatment. They contain blood vessels and nerves. When this nervy pulp is damaged, it can produce intense pain. This pain may be caused by dental decay, disease, or other trauma to the tooth. It is NOT caused by root canal therapy. Patients are often relieved to have root canal treatment because they can finally sleep through the night again. They can concentrate on work or school without being sidelined by severe and often persistent pain. Theyre also able to enjoy their favorite foods again without pain. Once the inside of the tooth is accessed, the damaged tissue is removed, and the canals are cleaned, reshaped, and sealed off to prevent reinfection, painful pressure subsides, and healing begins.

Absolutely untrue! By treating severe infections, we stop the spread of the disease to other parts of the face and body. We also prevent potentially lethal systemic infections. Contrary to outdated theories proposed at the dawn of modern medicine, root canal-treated teeth do not harbor harmful bacteria in dentinal tubules that leak into internal organs. Such falsehoods, partially summed up with the erroneous focal infection theory, have been particularly dangerous. Many people through the years have believed them. Teeth that could have been preserved were pulled instead.

False! For starters, a mature tooth does not need the pulp tissue. It is structurally sound without it, and so no. Also, dental extractions or teeth removal should always be a last resort. There is no other type of tooth that is superior in form and function from the real thing.

Additionally, your teeth also support the structure of the surrounding bone in the jaw. Once teeth are lost, bone loss follows. This process can have destructive consequences on the appearance and shape of your face, as well as your ability to chew food and speak clearly and correctly.

This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as root canal treatment-related misconceptions go. We also encourage you to think of root canal therapy more in terms of an efficient deep cleaning for the inside of the tooth. It is also an affordable, tooth-preserving alternative to time-consuming and costly restorative treatments. Call Endodontic Associates of Georgia at (770) 954-8338 without delay. Our specialists, Drs Damaries Candelario-Soto, Yanina Figueroa, Julio Chinchilla, Joseph Yoo, and Shaletha Bolden, will get you out of pain and back on a healthy track in no time.

This was my first visit to endodontics associates of Atlanta. The staff was personable and professional. Dr. Figueroa was incredible! She explained in detail what the procedure entailed and made me feel very comfortable, just like Family. Her assistant was so sweet and gentle through the whole procedure. I think I just found the best Dentist in Atlanta!

This was my first visit and to be honest I was a bit apprehensive. The moment I went back with the dental assistant my apprehensiveness lifted. The welcomeness, professionalism and updated technology was a great experience not to mention how awesome and informative the dentist is. I was a referral from another dental office I'd been going. I am highly considering switching to this office.

Dr. Figueroa is very kind and thorough regarding your treatment plan. I have had two root canals done by her and was experiencing complications from one of the tooth's that I thought had the root canal done but it was a different tooth. It was my experience with her that made me come back.

Tooth pain and going to a dental specialist is always very anxiety provoking. Dr. Figueroa was my treating Endodontist. I quickly relaxed once she walked into the room. I was extremely impressed with her chair side manner and especially pleased to leave the office with a non-surgical recommendation . Her follow up after the appointment was exceptional. Without pause, I would recommend her to family, friends, and others in the Atlanta community.

The dentist was extremely personable and put a smile on my face with her wittiness. Would definitely recommend this office to others!

Endodontics Associates is by far the best and most professional dental provider for root canal surgery. There is no one else I entrust to perform such surgery except for Dr. Figueroa and her team. I had severe pain for the past 72/hours and was unable to sleep due to an infected filling. I made an appointment online and was seen the same day. (Thanks Cindy!) Having the best Endodontics surgeon in Atlanta, Dr. Figueroa, allows you to feel at ease. Root canal surgery can be scary. Her team makes you feel heard and listens to your concerns, provides support for your pain, and is efficient with surgery. Make sure to bring your headphones and feel comfortable knowing you are in good hands.

Excellent service! From walking in the office, to speaking with the receptionist at the front desk, to the dental assistant and finally, to being advised by the doctor. I came in for a consult on a cracked tooth in the experience was so pleasurable I actually could've stayed in there and talk to the doctor longer. I wish this doctor was actually my general dentist. She was excellent. I will be returning for additional treatment!

Dr Figueroa has an incredible manner. Recovery from root canal surgery was without much discomfort. Not the usual residual painful novacaine injection sites like other dentists. Was pretty much good to go next day. Pleasant experience. Lovely personality. I highly recommend her. Tell family members.

I had a tooth that never caused me any pain or trouble. Despite this, I was told to get a root canal "just in case". Hundreds of dollars later, after some months had passed my tooth hurts more than it did before the procedure and I've been told I need to get another root canal to fix the first one! Extremely frustrating, do it right the first time or don't do it.
