Dr. Berchtold attended Utah State University from 1995-1998. He was commissioned as an Ensign, United States Navy through the Health Professions Scholarship Program in January of 1998. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University from 1998-2002 where he graduated magna cum laude and earned his D.D.S. He was inducted as a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies upon graduation.
His next orders at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton started in April 2015 where he was selected and served as the Director of Dental Services and served on the board of directors for the hospital until his transfer to Naval Hospital Yokosuka in July 2017. At Naval Hospital Yokosuka, he was appointed as Associate Director for Dental Services, the command Dental Corp Career Development Board manager as well as working as a staff orthodontist. He received his board certification from the American Board of Orthodontics in 2019 during this time. From Japan, he was stationed at the Naval Medical Readiness Training Command San Diego as a member of the craniofacial team for the hospital and worked as an orthodontist to supplement the surgical treatment of patients for the oral surgery residency.
Dr. Berchtold has been married for 26 years and has four children. Miranda, Jentry, Tate and Riley. His oldest is married and will attend graduate school this summer and his youngest is still in elementary school. He enjoys road bicycling, golfing, swimming, fitness, and eating good food and a little well known fact is that he has completed 5 half ironman triathlons and 3 marathons.
With this new transition, we are excited to announce and introduce the addition of Dr. Berchtold to the practice. He loves the interaction with patients and parents that orthodontics provides and is passionate about creating a beautiful smile for you and your family.

I cannot say more great things about this office, everyone is so extremely nice and friendly and my kids got in the car asking how soon they could go back! That says it all, especially when I have one child that gets extremely anxious about going to the dentist. We love it here!

We love this office! Dr. Spencer is not only an amazing doctor but just a great human being. He has five kids of his own and he just understands children so well and that helps so much when procedures might be uncomfortable or make my kids nervous. He's funny and so kind and he eases their minds immediately. He's wonderful with the kids and helps ease my mind as a parent with a history of dental anxiety. We don't just get excellent care, we also get lots of laughs and fun and high fives. Things we've dealt with: severe dental injuries (my daughter's knocked out a permanent tooth and he saved her smile--I'll never forget his expertise in saving the tooth or his kindness when I was a mess literally sobbing in his office), multiple extractions under anesthesia (ortho related), multiple issues with canker sores for one kid and yesterday he did an extraction of a baby tooth and my son didn't even feel it. So I'm not just talking about cleanings here when I talk about how great they are. I'm referring to serious dental needs that we've experienced with this team. Through all of this, my kids LOVE the dentist and that's because of Dr. Spencer and his team. There is no one better.

Above and beyond experience every time. The moment we walk in we're greeted with a friendly smile. The receptionist always engage in genuine small talk. They are prompt with their appointments but are willing to wait when we're running late. The entire staff is amazing every step of the way. My daughter got her tooth pulled out today and the dentist and assistant made her feel safe, comfortable, and took her attention away from what was happening in a fun and engaging way. My 6 year old loves how she gets to watch a movie every time she goes and her favorite part is the prize drawer at the end. Honestly this is the best service we have ever gotten. They set the standard for all kids dentistries in the field. Thank you to all the staff for giving it your all. It doesn't go unnoticed:)

Oddly, my 4 yr old daughter always looks forward to getting her teeth cleaned. She knows she gets rewarded with a toy afterwards. Staff is super friendly and many toys to play with while we wait.

Experience for kids is great with toys in the waiting room, fun chairs with tvs on the ceiling, efficient cleaning and a prize drawer when you leave. My 3yo had a great first experience here & everyone from front desk, hygienist and dentist were all lovely.
