Dr. Sheryl Elys fascination with dentistry started when she went through the dental assisting program at Santa Fe College. She then went right into the Dental Hygiene Program at Santa Fe College and remained in dental hygiene for 11 years. Also, during this time as a dental hygienist, Dr. Ely taught some courses for the Santa Fe Dental Hygiene Program. It was after this time that Dr. Ely decided to go back to school and signed up at the University of Florida. While married with two small children, she completed a Degree in Microbiology and a Minor in Chemistry, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. Moving forward, she completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2003, also from the University of Florida, and has been in practice ever since. She first started with Dr. Thomson in the same building that her practice is currently located today. Dr. Ely took over the practice as her own in 2009, when Dr. Thomson retired.

Dr. Sheryl Ely has been married to her husband, Troy, for 32 years. They met in 1981 through a mutual friend and it was love at first sight. They have one daughter, Jessica, and one son, Travis. The whole family are avid Gator Fans and always enjoy a good game. After Dr. Ely graduated from UF, her daughter followed suit and graduated from UF in 2017 with a degree in Business. Travis found his calling at the University of Central Florida and will graduate with a Finance degree this May, but they all root for the Gators come game day. The Ely household enjoy their Gator enthusiasm with a whole room in their home dedicated to the Gators! When Dr. Ely is taking a break from the ups and downs of dentistry, she delights in spending time with her family and friends, meeting new people, and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities. She loves to travel when she can and is up for anywhere around the world. But no matter what, she always makes a special date to meet up with her husband, Troy, at the gym.

Originally born in Maine, Darilyn grew up in West Palm Beach most of her life until moving to Alachua in 1981. It was at the community college that she took business classes and started her journey into the dental field and never looked back. Darilyn got married to Joe and together they love going on camping adventures, spending time with family and friends, going to the beach and a new hobby is paddle boarding! Darilyn is currently looking to add a dog furbaby for even more fun to her life.

Lauren graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Theatre and Dance minor from the University of Florida and then went on to complete Dental Hygiene School at Santa Fe College. She is a step-mom and mother to her dogs, Water Lily Munster and Nutmeg . She is an avid Disney fan and takes a vacation there as often as possible. She enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, Ryan, family and friends, designing arts and crafts, and visiting the beach whenever she can.

We welcome your visit to the dental office of Dr. Sheryl Ely. Your dental health and smile is important to us. Our team is dedicated to providing you with the personalized, quality dental care that you deserve. We strive to make your visit a comfortable and pleasant experience.

I was very nervous before my appointment but the staff was so nice and friendly by the time I made it to the back I was so relaxed and the care John showed was amazing. It was the best experience I've ever had.

Dr. Ely and her staff are wonderful. They've done extensive work on me and it's always been effortless and pain fee.

Ely does not deserve a star. I am a disabled veteran whom the VA, without my knowledge, scheduled a visit to Ely's dental office. The VA did communicate with Ely concerning time and date of the appointment for this veteran. However, no one communicated with me. Nearly a month past, and through my inquiry to the VA concerning why the long wait for my dental care with a dentist, the VA informed me that Ely said she will not accept me because I missed my appointment. She did not have the thoughtfulness to contact this veteran. Both Ely and the VA knew about the appointment, but I did not know until after the fact. Ely went as far as billing the VA for the missed appointment. Ridiculous to mention the least! A woman with the title of "Doctor" should be more compassionate and willing to give her patients the benefit of the doubt especially on a first occasion. I called the office and informed it of the misunderstanding but was not acknowledged. Eventually, I settled for my own conclusion: This woman's (Dr. Ely) actions emits fair warning about what sort of dentist office I would have been going to: cold and uncaring. With the attitude she has displayed towards this veteran, I am fortunate she did not get the chance to do dental work on my teeth. Why someone would want to go to that office is beyond my understanding.

I have been to Ely Family Dentistry several times through the Army's health readiness program. Every time they have been both personable and professional. They have been very understanding of my constant scheduling changes and have been very accommodating. In addition, I have had several less than positive experiences with another dentist in the area. Ely Family Dentistry has gone above and beyond to make sure that I am comfortable throughout my appointments and the experience has been overwhelmingly positive every time. I would highly recommend this practice to family or friends or anybody looking for dental work in the area.

I was referred to Dr. Ely by a friend/co-worker & couldn't be more thankful because now I am a patient for life! My experience couldn't have been better. The entire staff is welcoming, friendly & I instantly felt at ease. My dental hygienist, Lauren was nothing short of amazing & made me feel so comfortable that it was like we've known each other for years. Ely Family Dentistry truly makes you feel like you're a part of theirs.

My family and I had been happy patients of Dr Ely and staff for over 10 years when I recently changed jobs, and subsequently my insurance changed to Delta Dental. Since Dr Ely was not considered an in-network dentist with my new insurance I called the office to cancel my upcoming routine cleaning appointments for my son and me. I spoke to "Jerralyn" (sp?), who said NOT to worry about being out of network because Dr.Ely still "took" Delta Dental and the "ONLY DIFFERENCE" would be that I would have to pay the costs first, then I would "simply be reimbursed" by my insurance carrier once they processed the claim. Hearing this reassurance, I kept the appointment for me and my son. After the routine cleaning I was told the cost would be $345.14 which, though seemingly expensive, would only be acceptable if these were not out of pocket costs. I was ONCE AGAIN, reassured that I was only "fronting" the money until the claim was processed and I would be COMPLETELY REIMBURSED. I have NEVER had to pay out of pocket for a routine cleaning so asked Jerralyn very specifically at the counter *before* I paid. She kept assuring me that it would "all come out in the wash" when the claim was reimbursed. Fast forward to a month later and my insurance company says they are reimbursing me for *$181.80* for the two cleanings - NOT $345.14, as promised by Dr. Ely's office. This shorts me $163.34!!! When I questioned the insurance company, they said I should check with Dr. Ely's office to make sure they coded everything correctly. I called and spoke, once again, to Jerralyn who, after hearing the debacle, immediately backed away from her original story and apologized that "I MISUNDERSTOOD HER!!" She now claims that the office doesn't take Delta and would have only told me that I'd be reimbursed for the insurance company's costs - NOT the full amount charged as I was DEFINITELY advised on several occasions. I am not "new" to claims and benefits, which is why I asked on SEVERAL occasions for confirmation that I would not be paying any out of pocket costs. Why would I?? There are several other dentists that can perform a routine cleaning that won't cost me $163! I only went back to Dr. Ely because of the relationship I *thought* we had for over 10+ years. So sad that Jerralyn was more interested in getting that extra $163 instead of being forthright and providing an honest answer so I could have chosen to go elsewhere.

Wow awesome place and people. Haven't been to a dentist in a long time had so many bad experiences with so many dentists over my entire life. I was figuring ill just get dentures when it goes real bad. Couldnt fit all the bad stories in here it would make a good mini series..or. Halloween Horror Nights House..seriously...... What a change....great experience with these folks, Dr is quick and business like lets the techs do their jobs, open nice office, great staff, minimal wasted time. A trip to the dentist doesnt require a day off of work. My insurance seems to work pretty well with them too.

They got me in as soon as they could and I thought I was just getting an exam to get established. But I knew I needed some fillings and they did those as well with no question or fuss. They are great and I will continue to refer people here from now on.
