Dr. Chopp and her team helped alleviate my fears and got me through the procedure. My goal as a dentist is to help all of those in need; to create better oral health as well as overall health in our community and beyond. Patient comfort is my number one goal. While individual wellness is of paramount importance, I am also deeply invested in community wellness. This is why I will always accept state-funded insurances. Everyone deserves care and access to care. Furthermore, my drive to support community wellness compels me to give back in other ways. Dr. Chopp has been working in the dental field since 1998. She assisted briefly before going into hygiene school. After four years of practicing hygiene, she knew she wanted to further her education to become a dentist. She worked full time and went to school at Indiana University. Dr. Chopp obtained her Doctoral of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2015. Her goal in coming up to the Iron Range was to bring modern dentistry and compassion; Dr. Chopp is driven to do her part to support our community.
Megan graduated in 2009 with honors from Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. She knew by the time she entered junior college that she wanted to work in healthcare so she could help others. Dental hygiene fell into her lap; after researching the profession she never looked back. Megan is a registered dental hygienist (RDH) with the State of Minnesota. She is passionate about making a difference, and making people smile.
Danielle has always had an interest in teeth. She completed prerequisites at Mesabi Community College, where she also played volleyball and basketball, then transferred to the dental assisting program at Hibbing Community College. Although she originally intended to go into Hygiene, she found she loves the dentistry aspect of the dental field; she feels she is better able to leverage her unique skills when she is helping Dr. Chopp. After working professionally for two years, Danielle went back to school to complete an expanded functions program at the University of Minnesota.
Jenna attended Northern Michigan University where she received a Cosmetology degree. She moved to Ely with her husband in 2018. Jenna started with Ely Family Dental as a Front Desk Staff, and now serves as our Sterilization Specialist. Jenna ensures our tools and equipment are in excellent condition before your arrival.
Christine went to Mesabi Community College generals and then to Lake Superior College for a degree as a medical administrative assistant. She interned at a community mental health center in Duluth and ended up working there for 17 years, working her way up from secretary to office manager to practice manager. When the opportunity to work with Dr. Chopp arose, Christine was eager to learn all about the dental field. She loves working in Ely, and with the exceptional team at Ely Family Dental.
Lacey has a Bachelors degree in communication studies from Gustavus Adolphus College, and a Masters degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Its a winding road that brought her to dentistry, but shes glad to be here in a role that allows her to interact with and serve the community.
Ely Family Dental is seeking to expand our team. We experience a high volume of new patient inquiries, but our providers are currently at their maximum capacity. Mariah graduated as a licensed dental hygienist in 2016 from Lake Superior College in Duluth. She knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in healthcare, thanks to an older sister who is a registered nurse. Mariah ended up pursuing dental hygiene, and has loved her career ever since. She is passionate about oral health care and enjoys helping patients love their smiles.
After having various jobs in the restaurant, hospitality, and property management industries, Deanna is excited to enter the world of dentistry. Her work as a dental assistant combines her love for art, science, and working with people.

On May 24th I had a procedure preformed on my upper and lower teeth. They were damaged due to grinding, so they filled them in for me. The technician failed to finish the work, so I went back on May 26th for another appointment. After she was finished, I left the office, but immediately decided to go back and discuss my case with Dr. Chopp. After speaking with her, I felt dismissed and defeated. Therefore, I decided to send a text the very next day. It reads as follows: "Please have Dr. Chopp contact me regarding the dental care that I received at her office. My fillings are uneven, the second tooth on the upper left side is 1/2 the size of the same tooth on the right side and I'm finding sharp edges that are very painful. I'd also like drill mark on the enamel of my left front tooth fixed as well. I tried reaching you via telephone, but my call won't go through. I had to drive 150 miles round trip yesterday (May 26th 2021) to have the fillings on the back right side smoothed out. I asked the employee who preformed the procedure why she didn't complete the task, she stated that "it was overlooked." That's not the response I was expecting, she should have completed my treatment plan on the initial appointment date of (May 24th 2021). Unfortunately, this wasn't the only time I had to make a return visit to have repairs made that should have been completed correctly. I'd appreciate it if you could acknowledge my concerns and please fix the issues that I'm addressing. I left Ely Family Dental feeling dismissed, invalidated and that my request for better dental care was an inconvenience. I'm hoping my next visit will be a more positive experience." After reading this text, she left a 1min 40 second message on my voicemail. She was very upset! She accused me of sending "hate mail" and went on to once again invalidate my concerns and needs. She repeatedly stated that I told her "my teeth are smooth and perfect." Despite her irate message, I decided to scheduled yet another visit for July 27th. I was looking forward to this appointment so that I could finally get relief from the intense, prolonged pain I am experiencing. I showed up for my appointment and was taken back to the see Dr. Chopp. I was lying back in the exam room chair, expecting to talk to her in about the issues at hand. She came in the room, said very little to me and started drilling my teeth. After a couple seconds, she turned off the drill and proceeded to verbally attack me. She was very angry about the text message that I had sent 2 days prior. She literally yelled at me and told me there was nothing wrong with my teeth and that her technician, (who was standing in the next room listening) did a wonderful job. She then went on to say that my teeth were "horrible" prior to the fillings and that I should be thankful. Then, she told me that I needed to find a new dentist! I told her that I can't get another dentist due to my insurance, she then glared at me and said "find another dentist." I attempted to disengage from the toxic rederick and she said "You're not making eye contact with me or complying" I then told her that I'm not going to argue with her and that I was leaving. She stood over me while I was in a vulnerable position, in a dentist chair and proceeded to berate and belittle me over and over again. I had to get away from the situation, so I got out of the chair and left the building. My PTSD was triggered, which in turn caused a panic attack. When I finally arrived at my car, I was shaking and crying uncontrollably. Dr. Chopp is in a position of power and she chose to exert and abuse that power in the most unethical way possible.

You do such a wonderful and awesome job at being a dentist, and Lacey does a wonderful and awesome job working at the dentist building in town,and she is really nice and really caring person,and everyone at Ely family dental does a wonderful and and awesome job, and I enjoy talking to the dentist people at ely family dentla and crystal chop does a wonderful and great job working at ely family dental, and she is a really nice and caring person who helps take care of people at family dental

Stay away from this place! I've had a temporary crown placed by this Dr for over 14 months. If you miss an appointment be prepared for a very stressful lashing / scolding. I missed 1 or 2 appointments due to covid-19 (because the office was closed). If you reschedule an appointment 1 week in advance this is counted as a "no show". I however missed because of severe weather the roads were slippery and had to be towed out of the ditch. They kindly placed me on a waiting / call list. I got several calls to come in for an opening with only 1/2 hour advance to get there. I told them this is absurd since I live 1 hour away. If this office calls you and you do not accept a open appointment it is counted as a "no show." Absurdity turns to insult as every time they call you with an opening you have to accept or it is counted as a missed appointment! Today I received a reminder 10 minutes before my appointment. When I called this office to cancel because of minus -30F degree temperature I got a return call from a hostile belligerent "office manager" chewing me out. During this lashing I was not allowed to speak! I then I handed the phone to my wife. The "office manager" then revealed that she was Chopp. I've been with this office since the day it opened. I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS OFFICE AGAIN!

I had been to two of Dr. Chopp's botox parties before I hosted my own. Not only does she have an amazing reputation for dentistry but her skin care/cosmetic abilities are amazing! She is so professional and so is her staff. Growing up on the Iron Range myself, I am so happy to know there are professionals like her up there.

I travel ~50 miles just to come here for my dental services. Extremely caring, I couldn't see myself having any other dentist other than Dr. Chopp. The staff there is great, very friendly yet professional. And the receptionist also does the insurance, and is very good at explaining everything. I have dental services right in my town, but will 100% attest that the travel is worth it. I wish I could give more stars.
