Doctor Schmidt received a U.S. Navy scholarship and attended the University of Washington in Seattle where he graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1997. After completing a 3-year residency as a Lieutenant Dentist in the Navy he settled in San Diego where he loves the California climate. Doctor Schmidt is beloved by his patients and has provided exceptional family dentistry and orthodontics for over 20 years. He is married with 4 children and enjoys restoring classic hot-rods in his spare time.

She has practiced in California since 2005 and currently resides in Carlsbad with her husband and son. Dr. Hsu holds several scholastic fellowships and honors including Fellowship from the International Congress of Implantology. Dr. Debra Edson, DMD is our root canal specialist at El Camino Dental Arts. Dr. Edson has been practicing dentistry for over 15 years. She served as a US Naval Dental Officer serving reservists and active duty personnel from 2008-2010. She is married and is an active mother of twin daughters. Welcome, Dr. Edson!
Dr. Canessa has recently joined our team of dental professionals. He graduated from University of Southern California in Los Angeles and has been practicing dentistry since 2012. He performs all types of general dentistry with extensive experience in prosthodontics (dentures) and oral surgery. Dr. Canessa grew up in Costa Rica and he loves to surf and hike in his spare time. He has done many volunteer missions to help the underpriveleged in the U.S and abroad.
Graduate of UCLA with post graduate training & experience in Prosthodontics, including Certification in Branemark Implants. Dr. Norton has been a valued member of the El Camino Dental Arts Team since 2014. He is a long time resident of San Marcos, practicing in North County San Diego since 1990. We are so happy we found Dr. Schmidt shortly after we got here to Oceanside. The office staff is super friendly and helpful. Dr. Schmidt is great. He'll be our dentist for as long as we are here.

Can't recommend this dental office enough! They fit me in as a new patient same day, and the dentist was were able to fix my permanent retainer. Dr Schmidt is awesome!!!

Awesome dentist and office. Im terrified of the dentist and they made me feel extremely comfortable and we're very patient with me and i appreciate that. They also didn't try to talk me into procedures or anything i didn't want done. Can't recommend them enough.

Took my son here for his dentist appointment and not only were they in time and efficient but the Dr.Schmidt and the hygienist Theresa made my four year old actually ENJOY his visit. Highly recommend going in and seeing them for the dental needs!

Had appointment today meet with Dr. Edison was suppose to get r root canal. She met with me was very unprofessional didn't do anything. When I asked her why she wouldn't do root canal she just left. I tried to approach her to find out why she didn't do anything she walked away from me. Staff member came up to me and asked me to leave. No explanation. I talked to some other patients and they told me that they were unprofessional clinic. Do not waste your time go somewhere else. I explained this to my insurance and they are going to remove them from there roster.

Looking back at the reviews on Yelp, it seems to be a trend that someone in the front office staff is rude and doesn't need to be working in customer service. I showed up for my appointment and was rudely told I would have to reschedule due to a miscommunication on their part. The receptionist made it out to be my fault when it was clearly theirs. There was no apology and no concern in keeping me as a customer. When I called to cancel the appointment I had to reschedule, I actually spoke with her, and again she had an attitude problem. If you can't treat people kindly then don't work with people! It's unfortunate because a lot of the reviews say the dentist and hygienists are great.

Dr. Schmidt has been my dentist for 20 years and he is an excellent dentist. There are dentists closer to my home, but I travel 80 miles round trip to see Dr. Schmidt, and Noah the dental hygenist, because of the great care I receive. I highly recommend this dental office.

If you HATE going to the dentist, maybe you have had bad experiences in the past, then this is the dentist you need in your life. Dr. Schmidt and staff go above and beyond to relieve your anxiety so you can get the work you need completed. My insurance didn't cover this doctor so I paid cash out of my own pocket so I could see this dentist. He is someone who listens, cares and does what he can to make your visit as pleasant as possible. The office is nice and new, I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes and I am in and out of there ASAP. Stop dreading the dentist... Go see Dr. Schmidt. You won't be sorry.

Our family has been going to Dr. Schmidt's for many years now. We started out with him at his office in San Diego. We now travel from San Diego to their newest location for all of our dental needs. The entire office is extremely professional and very accommodating. We could find another dentist closer to home, but when you find a dentist, hygenists and root canal specialists, why change when you have the best! Our family definitely recommends El Camino Dental Arts.

You know you're in the right place when the dentist, dental assistant, hygienist, and office staff are all welcoming and professional. I told Dr. Schmidt I'd rather try a day in jail than go to the dentist. He made it his priority to make my visits as peaceful and painless. I hid from dentistry for many times in my life but I won't hide from Dr. Schmidt.
