Edward Wood is a native of Raleigh and a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. Prior to dental school, Doctor Wood received his undergraduate degree in history from UNC-Chapel Hill. He also worked two years full time as a dental lab technician making dentures, partials, surgical guides, retainers, and other devices related to dental implant therapy. Additionally, Doctor Wood completed a voluntary summer rotation at the Cherokee Indian Pediatric Dental Hospital, as well as rotations in Prenatal Oral Health, Baby Oral Health, and Geriatric Oral Health. In addition to completing many continuing education courses, Doctor Wood is a member of the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the American Dental Association. Dr. Wood is a dedicated professional, but a big kid at heart. He loves to laugh with both the patients and the ladies he works with. We believe you will enjoy both Dr. Wood's personable nature and his commitment to high quality patient care. Dr. Wood and his wife are happily married, and they have one darling little girl, who is the joy of their life. In his free time Dr. Wood enjoys exercising, fishing, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Edward Wood takes great pride in making beautiful and functional dentures and partial dentures. Prior to dental school Dr. Wood worked full time for two years making dentures and partials for a boutique prosthodontic practice in Durham, NC. Dr. Edward Wood trained under a dental technician and prosthodontist who for decades have made some of North Carolina's most beautiful smiles.

Dentures are removable substitutes for missing teeth. Full dentures are used when a person is missing all their natural teeth, while partial dentures replace only a few missing teeth here or there to eliminate gaps and improve chewing. Denture treatment is customized specifically to each patient, and Dr. Edward Wood can help you decide which option works best for you.

Sometimes dental conditions, such as tooth decay orgum disease, can become unmanageable. This may lead to the decision to remove your remaining teeth on one or both arches. Full dentures are an economical and efficient way to restore your function and smile.

A complete denture consists of a thin gum-colored acrylic base that rests on the gum tissue. Porcelain or acrylic replacement teeth built into the base give the appearance of natural teeth. We know that your smile is unique, and Dr. Edward Wood has the experience to help you select the teeth that will look the most natural. This also gives you the option to customize the way you look; whether you want a 'new' smile, or want to recreate the one you had.

While dentures boast a long history of successful use, modern technology offers some options to enhance the way dentures fit and the way you look. In many cases, dentures can be secured more firmly to your jaw with the use of dental implants, placed in the jaw. In addition to having greater retention and a more natural look, implant-supported dentures tend to last longer. Dr. Edward Wood can discuss these options and help you understand the ways they can improve your experience with dentures.

Whether you've lost one tooth or many, chewing and smiling can become more difficult because of the gaps in your smile. Partial dentures are an economical solution to replace missing teeth, fill in the spaces, improve chewing ability, and restore your confidence to smile. A partial denture will also help keep your natural teeth from shifting, lowering the risk of losing those teeth in the future.

Most partial dentures contain a thin metal framework that is designed with small metal clasps that wrap around the gum line of existing teeth. This allows for a smooth, non-bulky feel. The framework is supported by your natural teeth to provide a reliable, secure appliance that is easy to use and remove. Where teeth are missing, natural-looking replacement teeth are attached, and gum-colored acrylic is used to cover the metal framework. Remember your mouth and your needs are unique, and Dr. Edward Wood works with skilled technicians to create a solution that is functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing.

With advances in technology, implants can also be used to support removable partial dentures, improving the fit while reducing the bulkiness of the appliance. Dentures inherently bring some challenges, especially to new wearers. Our goal is to minimize the everyday frustrations and keep you as comfortable as possible.

I began as a patient of Dr. Rex Card some 20 years ago. When he retired and sold his practice to Dr. Ed Wood, he reminded his patients he searched diligently for a dentist that mirrored his values and philosophy. He could not have planned it better, nor could he have found a better successor. I am thrilled with this transition and I have no reservations. I recommend Dr. Ed Wood. Walt Jennette

Dr. wood and his staff are the best choice I could have made for my dental needs. Today was a prep day for a crown I need done. In regard to the prep work, everything went smoothly and everyone was courteous and helpful. Additionally, I had a chipped tooth that he fixed while I was in the chair. All the staff that assisted me were of the best quality! I highly recommend Dr. Wood and his staff for any dental needs or consultations!

Dr. Wood and his staff took time with my anxious daughter. She trusts them, unlike the previous pediatric dentist that just wanted to stay on schedule and did not listen to her, and they were able to complete a procedure with her being all smiles at the end of the visit. PRICELESS! Since that visit, we have all been for cleanings. They take such great care of us!
