Eastwood Dental Office, PC - General dentist in Syracuse, NY

Dr. Joan Laura has more to offer her patients than most dentists. Her background in art and design makes her uniquely qualified to bring true artistry to the field of dentistry. She is a talented artist when it comes to transforming and designing new smiles for her patients. Dr. Laura finds it tremendously rewarding to improve the appearance of people who have been embarrassed to smile by using her skills to restore their teeth along with their confidence. Her patients are grateful to leave with smiles they can be proud of!

Her advanced education began at Parsons School of Design in New York City, where she was on the Deans List and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design. After working and living in New York City, she continued her education at State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, where she graduated cum laude with Thesis Honors.

Following in her fathers footsteps as a dentist, Dr. Laura has been practicing for more than 25 years. Eastwood Dental Office is located in a house on James Street that has been in her family for five generations! It provides a comfortable atmosphere that puts people at ease when they come for their dental visits.

Dr. Laura is humbled when she is able to give a second chance to someone who has been in the habit of hiding their smile. She uses her skills and her artists eye to improve their appearance and their life through cosmetic dentistry. She loves when her patients see their results and hug her with gratitude.

As a caring person, Dr. Laura is very giving and involved in her community. As a way of honoring the men and women who have served our country, she offers free services to military veterans on Veterans Day. She is family-friendly and welcomes patients of all ages.

DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT HERE. I guarantee you that they are buying or faking their positive reviews. I made an appointment for a wisdom tooth extraction for my young sister. She does not have dental insurance and she also doesn't have the money to book more than one consultation. We made it VERY CLEAR that she was in excruciating pain and that we ALREADY had X-rays and just needed the tooth taken out. Their response was to tell us the price for a tooth extraction and what pain medication they would be using. Let me be clear; everyone was on the same page that we were paying for her tooth to be taken out, not for them to give us more X-rays (which we already had). We got there and they immediately made us pay, which is highly abnormal. They literally said, "money before she sits in the chair". We should have immediately walked out at that point considering that statement is more apt for a thug than a dental office. The "dentist" struggled for 20 minutes to take a simple X-ray (which we already had) and then took a mirror, glanced into her mouth, and announced, "you need your wisdom tooth taken out"! She proceeded to write us a referral and told us that she was unable to perform the surgery herself. The oral surgeon to who she referred us also requires a consultation. Meaning that we just spent $200 on literally nothing. When we told the receptionists that we were confused considering that we had been totally transparent about how desperately she needed the extraction and that as we had told them, we already had X-rays and never asked for a consultation, they threatened to call the police on us for harassment. They purposefully mislead us concerning what we were coming in to do, scammed us, and stole our money. I am assuming they also make a profit off of their referrals and that's why the oral surgeon they recommended us to requires the exact same consultation that we just did. We are now in a position where we had to pay for this consultation, and are going to pay for a whole new consultation and an extraction. Please, I am begging you, do not give any more money to these scam artists. They have no right to call themselves health professionals and I sincerely hope that their rundown practice goes out of business.

Would have received a 4 star if it was just for cleaning and X-rays. Their waiting room feels a little creepy especially during the winter hours. But other than that, the cleaning was painless and Dr. Laura was very pleasant. I'm docking another 2 stars because during my 6 months follow up. I received a call to confirm my appointment. Once I arrived at the appointment I was seen right away. The hygienist looked over my chart and went outside to have a chat with the receptionist. Receptionist came in and was giving me sales pitch because they no longer accepted my insurance. She was pushing me to get a cleaning done and that it's around $150 so it's not "too much money." Normally I wouldn't mind but I'm not paying $320 a year in dental insurance so I can see a dentist outside the network. This felt like a bait and switch sales tactic. They could've notified me during the appointment call that my insurance was no longer accepted and not waste both of our time over it. Felt like they were hoping I'm already there and might as well get the cleaning done.

Dr. Laura and all her staff are AH-MAZING!! I personally have an overwhelming fear of any dental work being done on myself or even just seeing it. However my son Frederick was experiencing an extreme amount of pain with one of his bottom baby teeth. I called for an emergency appt on Saturday at 11am with a simple hope of them being able to see Freddy within the next week. They in fact asked how soon I could get there and were able to see him that day! They got my son in and pulled his tooth within a couple hours of making the phone call. My son was nervous at first but Dr. Laura took the time to sit with him and talk to relax him. She is truly a miracle worker. I have never felt more at ease in a dentist office in my life. I doubt we will ever go to a different dentist again.

A thousand stars this is what Dr. Laura need. I had had nothing but traumatic dental experience. My anxiety was very high during and before the appointment. Every one was great with keeping me calm esp Dr. Laura. Her staff is great and professional also. I love the small office. They really have a way of making you feel comfortable. Dr. Laura work is Awesome and the wear off the novacane was very natural I didn't even notice. I will be returning for more dental work.

I had an appointment for a filling, and when I arrived they were very apologetic and said they were very short staffed. I was in and out in an hour, which wasn't long at all. They were very professional and I highly recommend them.

I originally saw Dr. Joan Laura in the winter 2020 after I received a flyer for a free exam and xrays. She told me that there were a total of 8 cavities that needed to be fixed which was a surprise to me as I take very good care of my teeth. I agreed to have her fix 3 cavities on one quadrant of my mouth. The way she ground my teeth down with the tools changed the topography of my teeth so I can no longer floss around them. I complained about the way my how my bite was now off, and the staff basically told me it was normal and brushed that off as well. When I got home, I felt a large chip fall off and began to feel sensitivity from it, but again the staff told me it was likely normal and due to the extra filling material falling off (though I KNOW it wasn't because of the pain). I went to another dentist and took another full set of xrays with them, and they found... NO CAVITIES besides the one she messed up. I had to get it drilled out and refilled at my new dentist. I was in shock and incredibly angry that Dr. Joan Laura lied about the radiographs and tried to fleece me over with extra and unnecessary procedures. My final complaint is the scheduling system. I tried many times to call the office to schedule or reschedule appointments for my husband and I, and I was always redirected to voicemail or their texting service. I attempted to schedule through their automated texting service twice, and they scheduled me during off hours wasting my time. Please do not make the same mistake I did if you have dental worries or concerns.

I just started going to see Dr. Laura this past fall when I had a toothache. They were able to get me in the day after I called the office because I was in a lot of pain, and I ended up needing an emergency root canal. Dr. Laura referred me to an excellent endodontist, and when I came back the next couple of times to get my crown made and put on, everything was great. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating people, and it makes visiting the dentist that much easier. They even took my husband in last minute to get a cleaning done while I was being seen even though he wasn't previously a patient there. He just asked on a whim if he could get one the same day because he hadn't been to a dentist in a long time and needed it. We will continue to be Dr. Laura's patients!

I am typically very anxious going in to be seen by the dentist. Dr. Laura, Ms. Karen - my dental hygienist, along with all the staff were very kind, accommodating, and patient. Everyone was professional and provided too notch care. Would recommend 5/5

I was happy with this office when I became a new patient. My first visit I was told I needed some additional work done and they would send my paperwork over to get approval from my insurance company. They received the approval and I will have some out of pocket cost. I have been calling this office all week to see what my cost will be. It's now Thurs and still no call back. So I found another dentist but I had to come sign a release from Dr Laura. I get to the office you would think they would ask is there a reason. No nothing. So I will be taking my money somewhere else. Bad experience for a new patient. If you can't call me back why would I give you my hard earned money.

Have had many poor experiences here. Went in for crown work and had a temporary crown put in. A month later, no one in her office had notified me the crown had come in, and it wasn't until my temporary fell out that I called and was told my permanent had been there for a few weeks... But no one told me... So I went in to get the perment crown put in, but the permanent turned out not to the more expensive zirconium I had paid for, but was the cheaper ceramic instead, and therefore broke and also fell out. She said it wasn't the 1st time that has happened at her practice and that she was 'switching labs' to avoid future 'wrong crown material' situations. While seeing me for this broken crown she put in a temporary, which also just fell out! This is the 3rd time a crown of hers has fallen out, all in a 4 month period! I called them to see if they could see me to cover my exposed raw tooth (since I am in pain) and they could not. The secretary told me "she is new" there, and therefore has no explanation as to why I cannot be seen tonight or as to why no one even alerted me when my permanent crown came in. Worst dentist experiences I have ever had, and the amount of staff turnover coupled with my experiences here makes me wonder what sort of business she runs and if in fact she knows what she's doing. Very unhappy customer. Highly recommend you NOT come here for anything other than a cleaning. Her hygenist is quite nice though. I will be taking my business elsewhere, which saddens me as a longtime Eastwood resident, since I try to keep my money in the nieghborhood, but this dentist is bad news! I'll be monitoring this review to see if it's taken down. I'd be happy to answer any prospective customers' questions about my experiences with this doctor.
