St. Lukes receives hundreds of requests from non-profit community organizations for sponsorship. All sponsorship requests must align with St. Luke's mission, vision and values, and improve the lives of our community.

In order to receive support from St. Lukes University Health Network, organizations must be 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations providing services within St. Lukes service area, which includes Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Schuylkill, Bucks, Montgomery, Berks and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania and Hunterdon and Warren counties in New Jersey.

Organizations that meet the stated criteria may fill out our online donation request form. Please include: supporting materials outlining the details of sponsorship opportunities; current 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status; a brief description of the organization and its purpose; and a clear statement of the project including the population to be served and expected outcomes.

Requests for sponsorships are approved by a committee, comprised of individuals from within the organization who share an interest in our community and a desire to help St.Lukes fulfill its health care mission.

In keeping with our commitment to the communities we serve, St. Luke's participates in hundreds of community-run events throughout the year. St. Luke's also accepts sponsorship requests and donation requests from fellow from community organizations that are non-profit 501(c)(3).

Due to the large volume of requests, we kindly ask that you fill out a form below at least 3 months prior to your event. Eligible requests will be evaluated and you will be contacted regarding our decision.

TheDepartment of Community Health and Preventive Medicine of St. Luke's University Health Network continues to strive to achieve its mission of partnering with the community to increase health awareness, improve the health status of the community and encourage appropriate access to health services. The Bethlehem Partnership for a Healthy Community and St. Luke's mobile health units, HealthStar I and HealthStar II, have been the primary venues for achieving this mission.

In the late 1860s and early 1870s, the Lehigh Valley was undergoing a dramatic change from a rural society into a center of industry. Railroads brought waves of new workers to the area and with them, great risks. Workers in steel plants such as the Bethlehem Iron Company (later known as Bethlehem Steel), coal mines, explosives factories and cement mills were frequently injured on the job and required emergency health care. The nearest hospital was located in Philadelphia, a trip too far for many of the injured workers to survive.

In late 1871, the Reverend Courtland Whitehead, a rector of South Bethlehem's Episcopal Church of the Nativity, met with Tinsley Jeter, John Smylie and Robert H. Sayre of the Bishopthorpe School in Fountain Hill to discuss his vision of a small hospital in South Bethlehem to care for the injured.

On October 17, 1873, the first patient was admitted to what was St.Lukes Hospital on Carpenter Street (now Broadway), nestled in the scenic hillsides in Fountain Hill borough/ Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Forty-seven patients were treated in the first year of operation. That same year, the United States was still recovering from the Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant was entering his second term as president and there were only 37 states.

This time was also the beginning of great leaps forward in medicine, and over the next century, St.Lukes would pioneer everything from the use of antiseptic to the adoption of X-rays as a diagnostic tool to its first open heart surgery and designation as a Level I trauma center.

Over and over again, the hospital exceeded its already impressive accomplishments with massive modernization projects that included utilizing the most innovative surgical, imaging and medical options available.

As the area's first community hospital, St.Lukes has been providing cost-effective and high-quality care to patients, regardless of their ability to pay, for 150 years. Today, St.Lukes University Health Network is comprised of 14 campuses, 1,900+ physicians and providers, primary and specialist care sites, various outpatient testing and service facilities, a regional medical school campus, the nations oldest operating nursing school, home health, inpatient and outpatient hospice services, the largest trauma network in Pennsylvania and more than 2,100 volunteers.
