Digital X-rays offer a huge advantage in early detection and preventive services. Advanced image manipulation and analysis, for example, allows your doctor to detect early stages of gum disease through recognition of bone level changes, or by evaluating the results against a previous treatment.

An intraoral camera is an indispensable diagnostic and educational tool. The tiny video camera moves around inside of your mouth and generates a tooth by tooth video exam of your teeth. Using an intraoral camera allows patients to better understand their dental needs by seeing what the dentist sees and then having it explained.

Lasers are a non-surgical approach to arresting the progression of periodontal disease. Following scaling and root planing, a laser is used to significantly reduce the bacterial colonies and decontaminate the infected periodontal pocket. Lasers also remove the infected tissue lining the periodontal pocket. As the infected tissue is removed, microscopic blood clots form and your body's natural healing response takes over. As you heal, the tissue reattaches to the bone and your gums return to a healthy infection-free state.

They're awesome people. Very engaging with their patients and they really care about you. They always make things so easy tho. I've been a patient at this clinic for the last two years and it has been a great experience.

The team at East Village Dental group was amazing. I just had my first appointment today and everyone up front was so helpful in getting me checked in and were polite and professional I have extremely bad dental anxiety and Dr. Kim was so accommodating and really put my mind at ease. I thought I had tons of cavities for sure and Dr Kim thoroughly walked me through my X-rays and I could tell he is well educated and ethical. The dental assistants were also amazing with my 1 year old. He started getting a little fussy and they were so great keeping him company. Trevor was my hygienist and he did an amazing job. It had been a few years since my last dental cleaning and he showed me areas where I need to improve and my teeth feel amazing. Highly recommend this practice to anyone!

Dr Kim is awesome. They fit me in for an emergency filling. They take my insurance too. Friendly staff. 3 blocks from my house. Very convenient for people who live downtown. I signed up as a new patient now. They not once tried to upsell and he explains everything.

I was a patient there for about 3 years. I stopped going because I moved out of the neighborhood in 2020. While I was a patient I thought it was odd that I was having cavities that needed fillings each time I visited, especially bc I'd had only 1 cavity in my life before that time, but I chalked it up to just getting older. Now after having seen my new dentist 4 times since moving, I've not had one cavity. Either the water is different in north park, or East Village Dental was selling me unnecessary procedures because they knew I could afford to pay for them. I always felt they may have been taking advantage of me, but I trusted them because they're the doctors. Trusting them was a mistake and I recommend you be extremely skeptical about any procedures they recommend.

Highly recommend Dr Kim and his staff! I had a crown done on a neglected front tooth and am beyond amazed at the results! The professionalism of the front desk, the warm sincerity of Chelsea and other hygentists/techs and Dr Kim's knowledge and calm demeanor provide a phenomenal experience. Any fear or anxiety I had before this, is completely gone and I can't wait for my cleaning in August.

I WOULDN'T SEND MY WORST ENEMY HERE. DO NOT-I REPEAT, DO NOT-TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR MOUTH. No expectations set. No accountability taken. No effort to find a solution. Now off to a whole nother dentist to pay a whole nother bill to fix their garbage job. I would post a picture, but it's disturbing.

East Village Dental Group is the best! They have outstanding customer service and truly care about their patients. I used to be terrified to go to the dentist because I would always leave with an extremely painful mouth and jaw. The professionals at East Village Dental Group changed my perspective of going to the dentist, and I've always left feeling better than before I'd arrived.

My experience was great. The staff were super nice, friendly, and quick. The dentist that attended me was very knowledgeable and explained to me the procedures he was performing. Definitely would recommend this group to friends and family for their dental needs. Thank you East Village Dental Group!

We love East Village Dental Group! My husband and I moved to San Diego recently, and we are so grateful we stumbled across this dental office. Dr. Steven takes his time to explain all procedures. He doesn't rush appointments and helps me feel as comfortable as possible. Their hygienist, Trevor, is awesome!! I was so well taken care of for my cleaning. It was exceptionally thorough compared to other dental offices I had been to before. The ladies at the front desk are very friendly. What a great crew!

From my brief experience with Dr Kim, I think it fair to say he is a good dentist. I have, however, decided to leave this practice for another for several reasons, which I share for the benefit of other potential patients. First, and most importantly, I feel like you have to be on guard for upselling here. Example: the doctor suggested I get a custom crown as part of my treatment. It turns out that a more affordable, factory produced, crown would work too. The doctor did not make me aware of this option. He simply put the more expensive option down. So, do your homework...ask yourself if the treatment is optimal for your dental needs or for the practice's bottom line. Second, I asked on multiple occasions for my xrays to be released to my patient portal. Front desk staff did not fulfill this request saying, each time, that they did not know how to. The portal, in my own research, does permit for uploading of xrays. Why doesn't this practice work to add this feature rather than simply emailing xrays? This would make it easier for patients to maintain their records and avoid needless xrays when they move between dentists. Finally, to be fair, the front office staff and hygienists are professional and helpful.

I've never been a huge fan of going to the dentist (shocker...), but this office has certainly changed my mind. I've been twice so far, and both times the staff were all personable, friendly and professional, and the service I received was quick and better than expected. The two folks at the front desk also helped with some insurance issues since I was unable to get my dental insurance ID, which made the process much better than anticipated. My hygienist (Trevor Ryan) was phenomenal, as was my dentist (David Kim)--both walked me through everything that needed to be done and performed excellent care without any discomfort (I won't lie, numbing gel and shots have always been THE WORST part, but Trevor made sure I was comfortable the whole time and experienced no pain. Two thumbs way up! So happy I found this place.

Love this place. All my family goes there. I think negative reviews are related to previous team or ownership. Right now everyone doing amazing job. Dr Kim is great and never pushed me to do any extra services.

RUN FROM THIS PLACE! I was told I had 10 cavities. Started to get them filled until I realized I was being over charged. I got a second opinion and I found out I had zero cavities and was getting scammed! On top of that I was overcharged by nearly $400. The front desk receptionist was horrible about it. She actually told me I knew nothing about insurance and there was no mistake. My insurance company had to call to get them to reimburse me almost 400 dollars of over charge fees. RUN from this place!!!

My experience here was really unpleasant, but I'm giving three stars because I think that the average patient wouldn't have the same issues. I have pretty bad "white coat syndrome" that is especially severe in a dental context and thus hadn't been to the dentist in years. I informed the staff of this up front because I thought it would be helpful. I seriously wish I had not, because a huge deal was made of it and I've now been in twice and received 0 services. I was questioned extensively about my anxiety by the hygienist (overly invasive questions like "is the anxiety due to a specific incident?"), which made me far more nervous than I would have been. Because of this, my blood pressure was then too high (from anxiety) for them to be able to even examine me (a totally fair policy and understandable). I was quoted for services and then made an appointment to receive them (and a cleaning). I was also told someone would give me a call about dealing with the blood pressure/anxiety issue so it wouldn't be an issue at the next appointment. No one ever did, but I explained the issue to my general practitioner, who opted to give me medication for the blood pressure leading up to the appointment so it wouldn't be an issue. At this appointment, after an extended wait) the dentist examined me and, again, questioned me in detail about my anxiety and blood pressure (which wasn't even checked at this appointment- if you're going to have a policy, it needs to be consistent!). At one point while I was being questioned, I said "this is extremely personal" but was still pressed. He was also extremely dismissive of my questions and actually said I should have consulted him before purchasing my electric toothbrush- this is after coming to this office TWICE. I was given a Xanax prescription I didn't ask for (they initiated the topic) and a billing person (very personable and polite) went over the services I was to receive at my next appointment. There was one service the dentist hadn't included that I had explicitly asked about and which was a priority, and the billing person was surprised I hadn't received the cleaning I was supposed to and hurriedly added it to the next appointment's services. I went home and canceled the appointment. It seemed like continuing to deal with this office was going to be an exasperating and time-consuming hassle, which honestly is a bummer because the office seemed clean and most of the staff was pleasant.

Ended up spending 2 hours at the dentist for x-ray and cleaning. Most of the time was spent waiting. I would recommend you don't go here unless you have time to kill.
