Update: I have a negative balance of ~$50 due to overpaying for services that East Nashville Family Dentistry has yet to refund me. Firstly, I was never notified of a negative balance until I came in for my regular cleaning and was told I didn't owe anything. I asked why and was told I had a balance. I called six months ago to request to have it refunded to my HSA and they said it takes a while because "it has to get approved by several people", so I waited patiently. I called to check on it a couple times since and I get the same answer. At this point, this dentist office has stolen $50 from me. I shouldn't have to chase after my own money. Avoid this office if you value your money being managed honestly. ----- Have been coming here for a couple years and I'm happy with my service here. Jamal who cleans my teeth is the best. So nice and professional. Clean and modern office.

I made an appointment for a cleaning two months in advance, the first available appointment. The weekday before I was scheduled, I got a call saying I wasn't guaranteed a cleaning at my first appointment, but they would perform X-rays and make a recommendation on the day. I cancelled my appointment. It's deeply unprofessional to wait two months to drop that kind of information.

I used to really like this place and thought this would be my dentist for years, but unfortunately, things have turned sour and I've switched offices. It looks like I'm not the only one with this experience and they're generally having billing problems. The TLDR version; I paid $1560 upfront for Invisilign that was fully covered by my insurance. They didn't bill to insurance in time and to the wrong provider. Over 1+ year later after 0 notification of denied claims or anything, are now telling me I owe them $1300+. I've tried to resolve this with them, but keep getting stonewalled/not responded to in a timely manner, told it's been "audited" by Marquee and given no other info, no other questions answered, and that they're sending the amount to collections. So because they had an internal accounting/billing issue, they're trying to dump it on me over a year later. Now I've had to file multiple complaints with various parties. Still hasn't been resolved and still fighting to get this figured out.

What a nightmare. Do not go to this dentist. tldr; you will spend 2+ hours here and you will NOT get your teeth cleaned. Instead, you will be told you need thousands of dollar of unnecessary work before they can clean your teeth. After booking a new patient exam, I arrived at the office and was taken for imaging by a technician, which felt normal until we were 45 minutes in and still doing imaging. The bite wing images were beyond excess (not to mention painful), and the tech was inexperienced and had to keep retaking them. When we were finally done with imaging, I was left waiting for the dentist to see me. When he came in, we spent probably 20-30 minutes reviewing the zoomed in image of EVERY single tooth together in excruciating detail, and he told me that I needed multiple fillings and a crown replaced without even touching the inside of my mouth. He said he could just "tell from looking" and didn't need to use any tools to diagnose, which I also thought was very odd. Additionally, I have seen my previous dentist back in Chicago regularly for the last 10 years and was never told that cavity/crown work was imminent. The East Nashville dentist also told me we'd need to address these issues before we could do the cleaning. This was a major red flag for me as it became clear they were trying to squeeze me for as much money as possible before completing the service I asked for. When the dentist was finished with this bombshell of a diagnosis, I asked if I could go, and he told me to wait for the next person to come in, which seemed insane at this point as I'd been here for 1 hour 15 minutes...teeth, still not cleaned. Then, I had to track down my technician where she told me to wait for the hygienist. Why would I need to see the hygienist if I wasn't getting my teeth cleaned? I told her I couldn't stay longer and needed to go. She practically begged me to stay, so I waited a little longer. Finally, at the 90 minutes mark, I told her that I could not stay and needed to leave ASAP. They only have one hygienist, by the way, but multiple technicians and dentists standing by to tack on more charges. As a courtesy, I stopped at the front desk, and the receptionist told me to please have a seat so they could talk to me about a treatment plan. At this point, I was starting to feel like I was being held hostage. I told her that I absolutely could not stay any longer and that they could call me if I needed to settle up on something. How do they expect people to take off hours of work to sit through images and talking? Fast forward, they sent me my treatment plan via email, which outlined a $3700 plan for me to get multiple fillings and a crown replaced. I was floored because again, I had seen my trusted dentist back home within the year, and he never said I needed any work done. For peace of mind, I went to a new dentist at 12 South Dentistry, and they informed me that there was no recommended work needed at this time. No fillings, no crown, nothing needed to be replaced based on the dentist's recommendation. As I suspected, East Nashville Family Dentistry was simply trying to squeeze every last penny out of me. They also informed me that the images that East Nashville Family Dentistry took were all blurry and not usable. After learning that I was lied to about my needs and having this horrible experience, I called East Nashville Family Dentistry and let them know that they essentially used my insurance benefits for the year and did not do what I asked for, which was a cleaning. The receptionist acknowledged that I should have been told that I was booking a new patient exam, which didn't include a cleaning. When I asked to pay the $59 new patient exam advertised on their website instead of them using my insurance benefit, she basically screamed at me and told me I was asking her to commit insurance fraud. Not asking that; just asking to not be charged for something I didn't ask for. The whole experience was a nightmare, and I would advise finding a dentist that isn't trying to scam you. 12 South Dentistry was great.

I dont review places often but feel it is the right thing to do when they deserve recognition. And let me just say... wow! What a breath of fresh air! I don't know about you but I don't particularly look forward to going to the dentist office. I was coming here for the 1st time and it was painless, easy, and dare I say pleasant. They were able to fit me in the same day I called to get a Crown cemented back on that had popped off. I have been thinking about switching to this dentist's office as it's closer to my house than the one I've been going to but thought that getting all the records transferred and getting a new patient appointment would be a hassle. I was wrong- they accessed my records easily and I didn't even have to fill out any paperwork. Kara at the front desk was incredibly personable and sweet and very understanding when when traffic and the stupid train delayed my arrival by a few minutes. And the dentist (I think his name was doctor call) was so nice and thorough and friendly. I felt totally at ease and taken care of. Am I actually looking forward to my new patient appointment in november? Mayhaps...

They cashed a check twice from me. Once when it was written in 2020, and again last week in 2022. When confronted, they said they recently "discovered" a bunch of old checks and cashed them.

It's a little asinine for the Dentist to be spending more time responding to every review online instead of just developing a good relationship with their patients. Be warned, going to this dentist will take more visits and cost more than any competitors in the area. I'm embarassed to say that I fell prey and spent over a thousand dollars to fix non-issues. I had my xrays sent to a different doctor and they were shocked when I showed the "treatment plan" I was given from east nashville family dentistry.

I chipped my front bond on set for a modeling job and they were able to fit me in for a quick fix!

Was charged and paid in full even though I had insurance. After I paid I started receiving calls and emails about a past due bill for the same amount I already paid. For the actual service or lack there of: it took 3 appointments to get the cleaning I asked for initially. Repeat visits for x rays and cleanings seem like an easy way to overbill and maximize income per customer. Once I had the cleaning it was the most painful I had ever recieved. I asked for gas when I made the appointment, but when I asked my hygienist they acted like it was a ludicrous request. I have since been to 2 other dentists and the total quote for the work I need was over twice the amount quoted elsewhere. Also, not knowing how to rotate employees for lunch time is a good indicator how the whole place is ran.

They never answer the phone or return calls to make an appointment. Very disappointing. I request an appointment online weeks ago. I have been trying for weeks to get an appointment. I thought someone from your office would like to know that I was unable to schedule an appointment. This is not like the East Nashville family dentistry I came to love. Also, update I was finally able to get an appointment after my review was posted.

Wow. Just wow. This place far exceeded my expectations. The theme here is equal parts professional and comforting. Front desk: both welcoming and efficient. Dental technician: impossibly top-notch and kind. And Dr. Spencer is just so incredibly light-hearted, empathetic, and vastly skilled at her craft. I honestly cannot express my gratitude enough to this team. Needless to say, I left smiling.

This place is nice but I don't understand the service. I had an appointment for a check-up 3 months before my appointment for 9:30a. I got there and they did x-ray's then the dentist (Erin)came and looked at my teeth and left out. Then Jamal(hygienist) came in and check my gums after being there for 1.5hr he tells me I need to make an appt for a cleaning..... I was in total shock and asked why he told me they do not clean teeth on the same visit. Then he proceeds to tell me they go to lunch at 11:30a. I stepped out and came back @ 11:27am and what did is see.??? The doors were locked and the receptionist was getting in her car. The Whole Office goes to lunch @ 11:30a......I was livid!!! I am not sure if this is NEW SERVICE but it was Horrible. I will check with me Insurance Company to make sure I wasn't charged for a cleaning. I am not saying you can't take lunch at regulated but to only have 1 hygienist and no-one else doing the job for 10 people is a hot mess. He was able to clean my teeth on what day??? If you was cleaning my teeth them why tell me to schedule a cleaning??? Again this my opinion of the service I received.

Both times I have visited East Nashville Family Dentistry there has been billing issues that I'm constantly following up on as well as insurance confusion. As for the billing, the first time I called, I was promised by Emma she'd call me back. 3 weeks go by, no call, yet I receive another bill. I called back 3 more times to have it settled. As for the insurance, I called a month and a half out to proactively confirm my new insurance for a cleaning, also speaking with Emma, just to be told day of that they don't accept my insurance. I told her she specifically confirmed it with me on the phone and she said it takes 24 hours in the system to update. I reminded her that I called a month and a half ago. These admins booking appointments need to realize that people schedule these appointments out and plan their work schedules around them. It's unacceptable to over promise a call back or even confirm insurance without truly verifying. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because their doctor and hygienist did a great job in the past. Just don't hold your breath if you're having to work directly with the front office for any sort of admin or billing related questions or concerns. EDIT: I sent an email over a week ago for an ongoing billing issue(s) since this review has been left. I am attaching it here for your reference as it seems you tend to these more promptly than an e-mail. I have blacked out my number so it isn't public. Please obtain my number from the e-mail or from my patient portal and have someone from the billing department call me.

This is the exact type of scammy dentist you want to stay FAR AWAY FROM. They will apply flouride to your teeth and not tell you it's not included/covered by your insurance and then you will pay $50 OOP for it. They upsell and manipulate their patients. I went to the dentist about 9 months ago and was told I had no cavities. Then I went to ENFD and was told I had 12 and the Dentist was wishy washy about which cavities I actually needed filled right away. Had my record sent to another dentist and guess was - only TWO cavities.

I am so impressed with East Nashville Family Dentistry! My son and I were seen yesterday for our annual checkup yesterday, and I just can't say enough good things! Jamal, the dental hygienist, spent so much time explaining brushing, flossing, and dental health to my son. He was very good at building rapport with my 10 year old. The whole team including Taylor and Kelly made me feel very comfortable to both take care of my dental health and be present for my son's visit. Everyone was so welcoming and truly enjoyed their job. Also the music was on point. Just a lovely experience overall.
