While in high school Dr. Matton enlisted in the United States Army National Guard as a means to serve his country and to aid in paying for his college education. Shortly after graduation, he completed Army Basic Training in Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, GA. While on reserve duty for his unit in Connecticut, Dr. Matton attended the University of Connecticut where he received a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology and a masters degree in Cell Biology before matriculating into the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. While in dental school he received several scholarships for academic achievement and clinical skill. Dr. Matton was also heavily involved in community service providing medical and dental care to underserved communities as part of the Urban Service Tract, as well as participated in biomedical research leading to a publication characterizing the effects of growth factors on the regeneration of bone.

After graduating with his dental degree, he advanced to his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. During his 6-year residency, he obtained his MD from Stony Brook University School of Medicine as well as completed an internship in General Surgery at Stony Brook Medical Center, which is a level 1 trauma center for pediatrics and adults. Dr. Matton is trained in full-scope maxillofacial surgery including intravenous anesthesia, wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, and complex reconstructions. In particular, he received an extensive education in all features of dental implant treatment including both hard and soft tissue treatments, with the understanding that success of an implant goes beyond just osteointegration.

Dr. Matton has worked in private practice for the past 3 years prior to joining East Lyme Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He provides general anesthesia in his office for all types of patients, including medically complex patients.

Then X-Guide technology is compatible with cone beam 3D scanners and uses Dr. Matton digital plan to provide turn-by-turn guidance of surgery in real-time, allowing us to improve the accuracy of the handpiece during dental surgeries. This results in more reliable, less-invasive, functional, and esthetically pleasing outcomes. This surgery is very beneficial for clients who want a faster, smoother, and less uncomfortable dental surgery process.

Thanks to 3D imaging technology, we can now also detect issues with your soft tissue rather than just the ones with your teeth and bones. In addition, since we can view the images on a computer screen, we can zoom them, rotate them, enhance their textures, and make color contrasts to make dental issues more visible. All of this allows us to detect even the smallest irregularities in your teeth, gums, supporting bony structures, and airways.

I highly recommend this office. Denise was very nice and helpful! I went there with my child to have her wisdom teeth taken out and they were all amazing.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PRACTICE. Unethical billing practices... they fail to tell you that they are "out of network" for dental . I had a nightmare working it out with my insurance carrier. I had to call them several times with an insurance representatives and the receptionist was the rudest woman I have ever dealt with in my life. We were both shocked at how obnoxious the receptionist was. She told me "well your medical insurance was in network"..... which would have been great if it was a "medical procedure". They billed both my dental and medical and I was told I would be reimbursed my out of pocket once my medical paid out. After medical covered some of the cost , it took 5 months of hounding East Lyme Oral Surgery to reimburse me. My son also came out sick as a dog and crying after his wisdom teeth surgery and told me he heard the staff arguing with each other. I have two words for everyone lucky enough to read this review...... DR. SANFILIPPO

I have never written a poor review in my life but I felt it was important for me to do this to warn others. I took my autistic son to have a consult to have 4 wisdom teeth removed. None of his teeth were causing him issues but they were impacted so I went for a consult as a recommendation from his dentist. After the consult they told me they would call my insurance to confirm coverage. They called me and told me I would owe $542 so we moved forward with teeth removal. I brought my son to the appointment and he was nervous and asked if I could sit in the lobby and wait vs going home. I asked if I could do this and they said yes. While sitting in the waiting room the staff told me I had to leave. I explained my son had autism and had asked me to stay and was told I could. They were persistent that I leave and they would call me when it was done. I told them I would wait in my car because my son asked me to stay near by. It was a cold Jan day. They called me and told me my son was finished and I was greeted by a 20 yo in tears who could barely walk and needed my assistance getting to the car. The did not provide me with any follow up instructions and had to call them to get them when I got home and got my son settled. They did not provide a follow up call the next day to ensure my son was ok. Months later I got a voice mail saying I needed to pay 3700 or they would send me to collections. I had to call them and my insurance to resolve the issue. I later learned my insurance only covered 1500 of the 4200 total bill so in the end I paid 2750 to have my sons wisdom teeth pulled that were not causing them any issues. Big learning experience for me and I hope this helps others not to fall into this sort of trap.

Dr. Matton is terrific. Super competent and skilled.. He communicates with you, not at you. Very personable. Very caring. He is great with follow up, calling to see how you are doing. I hope I don't need any other extractions, but wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Also, the staff both front office and dental assistants are great.

Patient Beware! Beyond disappointed in this office and their dishonest billing practices. In addition to being 100% wrong on their estimated out of pocket cost for a procedure, the office also billed Cigna for procedures that were not actually rendered (Nitrous). Further, the office sends very little information with your claim to your insurance company to get coverage for their procedures. When we called the office to ask them to help write a narrative that insurance is requesting, Denise (the employee who works with claim submission), told us that it was not her job or responsibility to do so. I've worked in the dental field for over 15 years (as well as owning my own dental consulting business) and have never dealt with an office so rude, unhelpful and unprofessional. It was not until the insurance company called the office itself on our behalf that they were willing to help. I will NEVER recommend that a patient I work with be seen here unless it is an absolute emergency. If you must visit this office, check ALL charges/procedures when you pay/leave the office to make sure they're correct, and make sure you have all necessary information noted that insurance may need, because the office will NOT help you after the fact unless you have your insurance company call them.

"wOW just WOW" my son is thirteen years old with a lot of hesitation about any doctor we see! From the time we walked in the door I knew it was going to be ok from the girls at the front desk to Dr Matton and his assistants so friendly and easy going that my son had very little fear at all! They made this very easy for BOTH of us! Thank you....

We were so impressed when we had our first consult, even my son was so impressed with how incredibly nice, concerned and genuine. A day later his teeth were in such pain , Dr Matton called that night to say "Bring him in tomorrow and we will take the 4 wisdom teeth out then. We can't have him in that kind of pain". Great place. Great people ,Crystal was sooooo nice and funny and straight forward. Christina took such good care of my son along with Dr Matton, I can't thank you all enough. Oh, and Alexia was super getting us in quickly for our initial consult. Thank you all.
