At east Boca Periodontics we believe in giving to the community. We know the importance of maintaing good oral health, and the benefits that the study of periodontics provide to this goal. In order to achieve this goal we make sure to provide patients with valid information that will help them make an informed periodontal decision.

The American Academy of Periodontologytreatment guidelines stress that periodontal health should be achieved in the least invasive and most cost-effective manner. This is often accomplished through non-surgical periodontal treatment, including scaling and root planing (a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins), followed by adjunctive therapy such as local delivery of antimicrobials such as Arestin, and host modulation therapy. Adjunctive therapy is prescribed on a case-by-case basis so ask your Boca Raton Periodontist about how Adjunctive therapy can help you.

Often, after scaling and root planing, many patients do not require any further active treatment, including surgical therapy. However, the majority of patients will require ongoing maintenance therapy to sustain periodontal health. Non-surgical therapy does have its limitations. In cases where non surgical therapy alone does not achieve periodontal health, surgery may be indicated to restore periodontal health. Your Boca Raton Periodontist willrecommend apocket reduction procedure, as explained below.

The gum and bone are 'attached' to your teeth, forming a tight seal so that bacteria cannot enter beneath the gums. When you have periodontal disease, this supporting tissue and bone is destroyed and 'detaches' from your teeth, forming 'pockets' which allows bacteria to enter and migrate deeper and deeper under the gums, creating a periodontal infection.

As these pockets become deeper, they arecreating alarger space for bacteria to live, Resulting in further bone and tissue loss. Eventually, if too much bone is lost, the teeth will become loose and will need to be extracted. Your Boca Raton Periodontist will be able to determine if a non surgicaltherapyis needed.

After non surgical therapy has been completed, your Boca Raton periodontist will re-measure the depth of your pockets.A pocket reduction procedure may be recommended if you have remaining pockets that are too deep to clean or maintain non-surgically.

During the pocket reduction procedure, yourBoca Raton periodontistfolds back the gum tissue and removes the disease-causing bacteria plaque and tartar from the root surfaces of the teeth. Once the teeth and roots are clean, Your Boca Raton Periodontist will secure the tissue back into place.

When the bone supporting your teeth has been destroyed and lost, it often leaves 'craters' or large bone defectswithin the bone. Than Your Boca Raton Periodontist mayrecommendA regenerative procedureto help reverse some of this damage by regenerating some of thelost bone and tissue.

During this procedure, yourBoca Raton periodontistfolds back the gum tissue and removes the disease-causing bacteria. Collagen membranes (filters), bone grafts or tissue-stimulating proteins can be used to encourage your body 's natural ability to regenerate bone and tissue. Particles of bone grafts are placed into the bony craters/ defects in order to 'fill' the defect back to its original form.

Your Boca Raton Periodontist may recommend crown Lengtheningif your teeth appears short and much of your gum is exposed when you smile. Sometime, your teeth may actually have the proper lengths, but they're covered with too much gum tissue. To correct this, aperiodontalcrown lengthening procedure is needed to expose more of your natural tooth.

YourBoca Raton periodontistmay also recommend crown lengthening to make a restorative or cosmetic dental procedure possible. Perhaps your tooth is decayed, broken below the gum line, or has insufficient tooth structure for a restoration, such as a crown or bridge. Crown lengthening adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so it can be restored.

YourBoca Raton periodontistcan help you identify the factors contributing to the problem that caused your gums torecede. Once these contributing factors are controlled, a soft tissue graft(gum graft) is doneto cover the exposed root. In addition, the gum graftwill'thicken' the gum in order to provide more protection against further gum recession.

During this procedure, yourBoca Raton periodontistwill often use an artificial gum matrix. This piece of tissue is then tranferred to the recessed gum area in oder to attempt to cover the exposed root. This can be done for one tooth or several teeth. The matrix will allow your own gum tissue to grow over, and cover the previously exposed area.We at East Boca Periodontics are committed to giving you a healthy smile.
