For Dr. J. Victor Eagan, orthodontics wasnt just an interest, it was in his blood. Dr. Eagan is the son of Dr. John Eagan, the first African American orthodontist in the state of Michigan and the third African American orthodontist in the world. He started working in his fathers office when he was 10 years old, and hes known since then that he was going to be an orthodontist, too.
Like his father, Dr. Eagan belongs to an exclusive group of specialists in the field of orthodontics, the branch of dentistry that uses braces for the correction of misaligned teeth and jaws. Since orthodontics became a science of its own in the late 1800s, only around 125 African Americans has held this esteemed position. Dr. Eagan, only one of about seven known African American orthodontists to operate a private practice in Michigan, has one of the most successful orthodontic practices in the nation. People from all over the world seek his technical expertise. Hes widely known for his use of state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technology.
Dr. Eagan understands that, for many, braces are more about a healthy self-image than anything else. We communicate to the world through our mouths. And when your mouth is beautiful, it creates an aura that you are together, that you are beautiful, he explains. He also stresses that braces are not just for kids. A lot of adults didnt have the opportunity to straighten out their smile when they were children, he says, explaining that adults of any age can improve their smile.
Dr. Eagan received his undergraduate training at the prestigious University of Michigan and went on to the universitys School of Dentistry where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery with honors. He practiced general dentistry for eight years before obtaining advanced specialty training in the field of orthodontics at Howard University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C., where he graduated as valedictorian.
Dr. Eagan is active in many local civic and community organizations and is a member of the American Dental Association, the National Dental Association, the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists and the American Association of Orthodontists. Among many other honors, Dr. Eagan is listed in the prestigious Whos Who Among Executives and Professionals directory. In 1996, he was named Orthodontist of the Year by the Consumer Business Review. In 1997, he was bestowed the Jeann R. Vogt Celebration of Leadership Award by the Accounting Aid Society. He was honored with the Outstanding Scientific Award by the National Association of Black MBAs in 1998, and most recently in 2009, he was recognized as a Top Dentist by HOUR Detroit magazine.
In addition to being a successful orthodontist, Dr. Eagan is also an ordained minister, author and international speaker. He and wife, Catherine Eagan, head Eagan Financial Group, L.L.C. and have collectively authored more than 10 books. Dr. Eagan also runs Eagan Ortho Properties, L.L.C., a real estate holding company, and Eagan Companies, Ltd., a diversified holding company.

Deanna has been with Eagan Orthodontics since 1994. She was a patient at our practice prior to joining the Eagan Orthodontics family. Deanna is the Scheduling Coordinator, but she also fills the Second Treatment Coordinator position, and she assists in all front office administration duties. Deanna is happily married with two young boys, and she enjoys traveling, skating, and bonding with her family and friends.
Sissy, also a former patient of Eagan Orthodontics, has been a part of our family since 2000. She leads our in-house financing department where she handles our patients insurance billing and financial records. She holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Walsh College. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Sissy and her husband, Steve, have three wonderful children, and a Shiba Inu dog named Spike that looks like a fox!
Sandra has been with Eagan Orthodontics since 1995. She runs our in-house laboratory and occasionally helps out her niece, Seantelle (Orthodontic Assistant), in the clinic and her daughter, Kiera, at the front desk. She has a warm heart and inviting spirit, and she always has a shoulder to lean on! In her spare time, Sandra loves to travel and take in a movie or two with her husband. She has four wonderful children and has witnessed the births of her three beautiful granddaughters. What a blessing!
Tina was a patient in our practice in 1997. Just a few years later, she was led by God to leave corporate America and join our orthodontic team as an Orthodontic Assistant. She has a very fun-loving, energetic personality that brings laughter to the clinic each and every day! Because of her strong leadership skills, organization and diligence, she is now the Clinical Team Leader. Her presence is inviting and exciting; shes always bringing fresh and new ideas to the practice. In her spare time, Tina enjoys traveling, watching movies, attending sporting events, and spending time with her wonderful husband, daughters and son.
Tresa received training in Dental Assistance from Crockett Technical Center in Detroit. Like many other Eagan Orthodontics staff members, she came to our practice as a patient, and in 2003, she became a part of the clinical staff. She has a very bubbly and energetic personality which shines through her daily as she interacts with the patients and staff members. Tresa loves outdoor activities, such as ice skating and walking through local parks. Her other hobbies include traveling, doing arts and crafts with her daughter, socializing and visiting museums.
Gary came to our practice as a patient in 1998. He loved the atmosphere so much that he wanted to join the staff. However, a position was not available, and he didnt have the required experience. What did Gary do? The following year he started volunteering in the clinic. As a volunteer, Gary proved to be such a valuable asset to Eagan Orthodontics that a year later, he was hired full-time and has been an essential team member ever since. Hes vital to maintaining our wonderful atmosphere, specifically through providing high quality patient care and being our intercessory prayer leader handling prayer requests received from patients, vendors and staff members. Gary has a very warm, caring and loving spirit. Some of his hobbies include traveling, running (sometimes competitively), reading, theatre and spending time with his family.
Tammy started in our practice as an extern from Everest Institute. We were so pleased with her outstanding performance and assistance in the clinic that in 2010, after completion of her certification, we offered her a full-time clinical position. She is a very punctual, motivated and driven individual. Tammy fits right into our Eagan Orthodontics family as if shes been with us from the very start! She enjoys the art of cosmetology and traveling. If it involves fun, shes in! Tammy recently discovered her love for health and fitness and has a passion for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Javen is the nephew of Dr. J. Victor Eagan and has been working summers at Eagan Orthodontics since the age of 7. He ensures the comfort of each patient while assisting Dr. Eagan and is responsible for doing the initial bonding set-up for patients. Javen is training to carry on the Eagan Orthodontics legacy of excellence and Creating Beautiful Smiles with Braces. I guess you can say, Its in his blood. When hes not in the office, Javen is a thrill-seeker who loves being outdoors. Some of his favorite activities are sky diving and traveling. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida. Go Gators!
Vicki joined Eagan Orthodontics in 2009. She is responsible for assisting Dr. Eagan with a variety of business tasks and obligations. She is married with two daughters, and the oldest one is a patient at our practice. Vicki is very involved in her childrens activities, and she enjoys scrapbooking, gardening and spending time with her friends.
