He starts each day with one goal in mind: to improve every patients dental health in a meaningful way and in an environment that is friendly and enjoyable. He particularly loves the practice of general dentistry because of the wide variety of services he is able to provide for his patients.
After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 1971 with a bachelors degree in biology, Dr. Mims went on to earn his doctor of medical dentistry degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry (now Georgia Health Sciences University) in 1975.
He entered private practice as an associate in Young Harris, Georgia in 1975. After recognizing a growing need for dentistry services just across the state line, the Murphy dentist moved his practice there in 1988.
Dr. Mims is married to Gretchen, and together they have five children: Robiyn, Matthew, Bryan, Shawn, and Randall. The couple lives in nearby Brasstown and they attend Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
Over the years, Dr. Mims interests have included leadership positions with a local Boy Scout Troop, camping, horseback riding, boating, swimming, snow skiing and flying. He flies an airplane that he built himself.
Rebecca joined our team in June 1993. She discusses treatment plans with patients and assists them in making financial arrangements for the services they need. She enjoys meeting people and seeing them smile with confidence once their treatment is complete.
Kim become a member of the Mims Dental Team in August 2014. She transitioned into the dental field after working eleven years in healthcare. Kim received her Dental X-ray Technician certification through Eastern Carolina University Dental School in Sylvia, North Carolina. Kim enjoys providing patients with a comfortable, yet enjoyable experience at the dentist because she knows the importance of keeping a happy, healthy smile. Kim assists Dr. Mims with all procedures from orthodontics to surgical implants. In her spare time, she and her husband, Cody, along with their daughter, Eden, take care of goats, pigs, and chickens on their hobby farm. Kim enjoys spending time with her daughter, gardening, canning/preserving food and relaxing with family and friends.
Debbie comes to work every day appreciative of the opportunity to help our patients practice and maintain good oral health. A member of our staff since 2006, she says she enjoys the one-on-one relationships we have with the patients we serve.
When shes not making smiles brighter, Debbie loves spending time with her daughter and four dogs, taking trips to the beach and visiting lighthouses. Shes also a fan of hiking, exploring, boating, gardening, practicing natural remedies, cooking and homemaking.
She went on to complete the Radiology Instructors course at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 2001, and she teaches the annual dental radiology certification course for office-trained dental assistants through the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville.
