Sterling, VA The American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) named Dr. Richard Hughes one of its 2014 Honored Fellows during the organizations 63rd annual meeting last November. This coveted distinction was awarded to eight dentists based in the United States and Canada. The credential is for dentists and dental health professionals who have distinguished themselves within the field of implant dentistry.
This is the kind of honor that I never thought I would achieve, said Dr. Hughes. I was overcome. Its such an elite group to be a part of, and I am humbled to be among those seven other names from around the world.
All Honored Fellows were nominated for the distinction by peers in the field of dentistry. Only voting members of the AAID in good standing with the organization for at least eight years are eligible for this honor, which demonstrates a long-term commitment to the group as a whole and the evolving field of implant dentistry.
The Honored Fellows Committee for the AAID screens each nomination carefully to determine how the nominee has distinguished himself or herself in their support of the AAID and in their own professional career and practice. The Honored Fellows Committee also considers how the nominees have distinguished themselves in their work with dental implants.
I have served my patients well, and its something I am going to continue doing, said Dr. Hughes. The honor doesnt mean Ill rest easy. It means that I will strive even harder, because my commitment is to patients and their wellness.
Established in 1951, the AAID was the first professional organization in the world that was dedicated to the field of implant dentistry. A trusted name in the field, dentists who are credentialed by the AAID are recognized by numerous state boards for their excellence in the placement and use of dental implants.
The AAID is comprised of more than 4,500 members. While the majority of the membership is based in the United States, the AAID also has a number of members based in Canada and elsewhere around the globe.
Dr. Richard Hughes is one of the leading implant dentists based in the greater Northern Virginia and Washington DC Metro area. Dr. Hughes has trained with some of the foremost implant dentistry specialists in the world, and passes on his knowledge to his peers through post-doctorate courses and lectures. Dr. Hughes is an advisory board member for The Journal of Implant and Advanced Clinical Dentistry, a reviewer for The Journal of Oral Implantology, and an oral examiner for the American Board of Oral Implantology.
Dr. Hughes, with over 30 years of experience in implant dentistry, is a national and international lecturer on numerous topics about implant dentistry, implant surgical demonstrator and clinical investigator.

I can not say enough good things about Dr. Hughes and his staff. I Started off wanting to get a couple of teeth fixed and an implant for an affordable price and ended up with a whole new mouth and smile. Dr. Hughes fixed my broken teeth and finally gave me the smile I wanted and can feel beautiful and confident about. It was very affordable and well worth the time and money. His great staff along with his chairside manor makes it worth the 2 and a half hours it takes me to get there.

This dentist performed multiple implants and bridge on my mother. He caused an infection and caused her to lose even more bone. The bridge he place was too low and doesn't touch the upper teeth, which created further complications. He used outdate implant technology that uses cement rather than screws in the crown, which makes further repairs or work nearly impossible. The implants that didn't fail are exposed and not covered in bone. Please be careful. This is a doctor that should have retired decades ago. He should charged and fined for malpractice.

Dr Hughes has been my dentist for 15+ years. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I have had implants, crowns, cavities, general cleanings and xrays done at his facility. Top of the line care. His staff is understanding and professional. Dr Hughes is extremely knowledgeable, answering every question I have, addressing concerns and giving me piece of mind with the care of my teeth. I would highly recommend his office.

My experience with this dentist was real bad. I will not recommend him to anyone. His service was not professional. He did not give me detailed explanation and I had to contact insurance to resolve the charge of a new denture that I did not get. By the way, the first new denture did not fit and looked funny, he claimed he would use another lab, I waited for another new denture and did not take the first one. The second one did not come out well and cannot be used. It ended up I had never gotten a new one. Very unprofessional!

I've had anxiety over dentists since I was a kid and Dr. Hughes is hands down the best dentist I've ever had. He never makes you feel like you're just another patient, but instead makes you feel comfortable and at ease. He explains procedures beforehand and takes the time to educate you on what is going on in your mouth. The office staff are equally amazing and are warm and welcoming from the second you walk in. I wish I had stumbled upon this practice years ago and would highly recommend him to anyone.
