The son of a pediatric dentist, Dr. John Christensen grew up in Waterloo, Iowa. After attending Harvard University for his undergraduate education he decided to also become a dentist and enrolled in the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He moved to North Carolina for his residency training in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at the University of North Carolina. In 1987, Dr. Christensen opened his practice in Durham. He and his wife, Lorie, have three children. Their son, Dr. Rob, is also a Pediatric Dentist at Durham Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics. Layne, their middle child, is trained as a Physician Assistant and lives in Emerald Isle. Their youngest daughter, Kate (Pick), has a Masters degree in Special Education and is currently a tutor at The Hill Center in Durham.

Dr. John is Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is one of a handful of practitioners in the United States who has specialty training in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. This combination of specialties allows children to receive comprehensive pediatric dental and orthodontic care in one office.

Dr. John is also a Division Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health at the University of North Carolina and has directed the orthodontic training of pediatric dental residents since 1986. In 2008, Dr. Christensen was honored by former students with a fellowship that will provide funding for post-doctoral students in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Christensen has published multiple research articles and has co-authored one of the countrys leading pediatric dental textbooks: Pediatric Dentistry: Infancy Through Adolescence (Nowak, AJ, Elsevier, Philadelphia, 2018.) He is a peer reviewer for PLOS (Public Library of Science) and a member of UNCs Dental Trauma Team. He has prepared test questions for both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistrys Oral Examinations and for the National Board Examination given by the American Dental Association to all dental students. Dr. Christensen is an accomplished speaker and addresses local, national, and international dental organizations.

He is a past-president of the North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,the North Carolina Society of Dentistry for Children, the North Carolina Association of Orthodontics, the UNCOrthodontic Alumni Association and the Durham-Orange County Dental Society.

Since establishing his practice in Durham, Dr. John has been an active member of the community serving on boards and committees. He has been a coach and sports organizer with the Woodcroft Athletic Association, Jordan High School Booster Club, and the Jordan High School lacrosse team. He is an avid golfer, loves to read, enjoys fishing at the beach and spending time with his two grandchildren.

Dr. Rob Christensen grew up in Durham, NC and attended C.E. Jordan High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado College and his dental degree from the University of North Carolina. He completed a residency at the Ohio State University where he received a Masters Degree in Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Rob is Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is on faculty in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of North Carolina as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. He has extensive clinical training and experience in providing dental care for infants, children, teens, and patients with special needs. He is experienced in diagnosing and treating patients with interceptive orthodontic needs, managing acute dental trauma, and treating medically compromised patients under general anesthesia. His research interests include pediatric dental trauma and the management of dental crowding in young patients.

While in dental school at UNC, Dr. Rob was the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship for his work in dental trauma prevention and management in the Durham Public School Athletic Departments and the Durham YMCA. He was also awarded the Derek T. Turner Student Research Award for his work on incisor crowding in the early transitional dentition.

Dr. Rob lives in Durham with his wife, Jen, and son, Soren. Dr. Rob enjoys playing golf, fishing and spending time with his family and two dogs, Sarvis and Quinn. Dr. Rob is the son of Dr. John Christensen.

Dr. Jamie Molina grew up in Chapel Hill and attended Durham Academy. She received her undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of North Carolina. While in dental school at UNC, she was the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, through which she developed and implemented oral health programs for patients with special needs. She completed a residency at the Ohio State University where she received a Masters Degree in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Jamie is also Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry

As an NC native, Dr. Jamie is excited to bring her advanced clinical training and passion for pediatric dentistry to the local community. She believes in providing compassionate, individualized care for all infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special needs. In residency, she received exceptional training on the latest practices used in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral disease. Dr. Jamie is looking forward to promoting a positive, quality dental experience for each patient and making lasting connections with her patients and their families. Her research interests include electronic healthcare systems and the role of these systems in patient safety.
