Sharon Durfee, DDS, MS has been in orthodontic practice for more than20 years. She loves to work with eachpatient toaddresshis or her growth and development, and todirect the patients teeth and jaw into the most ideal position possible.
Through the years, Dr. Durfee has had the pleasure of building relationships with many people in the Evanston community and has been involved in community events.She raised her family here andlooks forward to creating a beautiful smile for you soon.
Dr. Durfee received her Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in physiology from Pennsylvania State University.She earned her Doctorate of Dental SurgeryfromNorthwestern University Dental Schoolandcompleted her orthodontics residency at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry.
Dr. Durfee is an active member in many dental and orthodontic organizations and continually updates her educationto stay on the cutting edge of orthodontic technology. Additionally, she is an attending staff doctor on theIllinois Masonic Medical Center medical team.She has taught dental residents enrolled in their general practice dental residency program for 22 years, and coversorthodontic diagnostic and treatment procedures.

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.
Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now choose clear or metal brackets and, in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great age to wear braces!
Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time.

I'm pretty disappointed in my experience here. I thought the doctor was pleasant and the front staff was pleasant. The reason for my 4 star review is one big reason. I paid $55 for a 10 min consultation. That's frustrating because I felt that she didn't do anything but give an opinion. Which.. fine that's a consultation... but only 10min? $55? That VERY steep. And I came out of it with no new information. I also found that when I told her that a removable retainer isn't for me (as I wanted permanent), she had concluded that I would adjust to it and wear it. That frustrated me because I don't appreciate when doctors assume they know more about me than I know about myself. It would've been helpful if instead of dismissing me to one solution that she would've provided others. Even if you believe your one solution is the best, at the end of the day, anther orthodontist may feel differently.... Therefore options should always be given. It also would've been more helpful, if that truly is the only solution, to provide examples as to how beneficial this could be for me.. I didn't feel as though that was done. She's obviously a seasoned orthodontist and feel she could probably do a great job in treating. However, I would've liked more time and more explanations of things.

My children have seen Dr. Durfee for several years and we have been very happy with all of the excellent work she has done for both of them. She is easy to work with, professional, and a reliable orthodontist. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for ortho. work.

My family has seen Dr. Durfee for 20 years. She has taken care of the orthodontia of my two children and I am finishing Invisalign and we have all had amazing results. Dr. Durfee is a true professional and sets reasonable goals for treatment. She even made a house call once!! The staff is helpful and the office is pristine with all the necessary precautions against COVID-19

Dr. Durfee cares for both of my kids. My younger daughter had the misfortune of inheriting my bone structure. When I was a kid I endured multiple extractions prior to wearing years of braces. My daughter went through nothing so medieval. Thanks to Dr. Durfee's judicious use of expanders followed by braces for significantly less than my five years, she not only has a beautiful smile, but her bite should be strong, stable and serve her well for a lifetime. In an effort to gather clues for how to treat my daughter's similar physiology, Dr. Durfee X-Rayed me. I remember sitting in her office as she projected on the wall both my skull and my daughter's, complete with percent deviations from the norm for various facial structures. Her thoroughness as she developed a plan for my daughter blew me away. Best of all, her plan for my daughter did not require invasive procedures like extractions or breaking and reassembling her jaw as the primary courses of action as others had suggested. I come from a family of physicians. My parents believe you don't do surgery if you don't absolutely have to. Dr. Durfee proved that, in the case of my daughter, surgery was not required to get an outstanding result. It helped that Dr. Durfee isn't just an orthodontist--she's an orthodontist who teaches dental students how to be orthodontists as a professor at the University of Illinois Dental School. If you want great results, don't just go to an orthodontist. Go to the orthodontist who teaches how to practice orthodontics. That's Dr. Durfee. It should also be noted that my older daughter, who was lucky enough to inherit my wife's bone structure, is being treated by Dr. Durfee with Invisalign and is enjoying similarly excellent results. Dr. Durfee's staff welcomes you immediately as you come in the door. There is a fish tank to relax with, and there are free muffins and free coffee! Dr. Durfee cared for my triplets' teeth, and has done a wonderful job. Her staff is very accommodating where appointments are concerned, and Dr. D spends as much time as you need discussing whatever questions you have regarding the care you are receiving. Luv her!

I have been going to Dr. Durfee ever since I was 13 years old, along with my entire family. I started with braces and every single visit was pleasant and very comfortable. When I had my braces removed, I was EXTREMELY pleased with Dr. Durfee's work and I have been getting many compliments ever since. I would really recommend anyone to come in for a visit and see for yourself! The atmosphere is very comfortable, the staff is very friendly and above all the work is amazing!
