Dr. Hemmingsen was raised in Elk Horn, Iowa, a small Danish settlement just off of interstate 80 (exit 54) in rural Western Iowa. There was never a dull moment on the farm when he was young, as he explored every inch of the creek, and the land where they lived. He was active in sports, and especially loved, wrestling, football, and baseball.

Dr. Jeff received his undergraduate education from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, after serving a two-year mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He wanted to go back to the Midwest and he brought with him, his best friend, and companion, his wife Jodi, who has been with him ever since. He attended dental school and completed his residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Jeff and Jodi loved their time in Iowa City, and were anxious to move on to the next phase of their lives. That next phase, was Dr. Jeffs first dental practice which opened in Sioux City, Iowa in 2001.

Along the way, they have been blessed with five great children; 4 girls and 1 boy. Their children are excited about life, and maintain a never a dull moment theme. Their lives are very busy, as they actively serve in their church and community, as well as find time for each other with indoor and outdoor activities all year-around.

Dr. Hemmingsen has served on the board for the Sioux City Dental Association, the Northwest Iowa District, The Iowa Mission of Mercy, and is a member of the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association. He enjoys working with the children to establish good habits early in life. He offers services that are traditional to pediatric dentistry, including behavior guidance, nitrous oxide sedation, tell-show-do, and early intervention habit correction. This treatment is designed to help the jaws reach their full genetic potential and minimize crowding of the teeth. It also minimizes the need for extensive treatment as a teenager.

The Hemmingsens love everything about the Siouxland area (except the sub-zero temperatures in winter) and have been so blessed by moving here. They look forward to serving the community in all aspects of life, for many more years to come.

Dr. Howenstein was born and raised in Belleville, IL. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. He graduated from Southern Illinois University, School of Dental Medicine in 2012, where he received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.

Due to his passion for working with and helping children, he decided to pursue a career where he could improve children's oral health and calm their potential anxiety and fear of the dentist. He completed a two year residency in pediatric dentistry at the Ohio State University where he served as chief resident. He received a specialty certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and a Master's of Science in Dentistry Degree, and earned a well established knowledge base in all aspects of pediatric dentistry including behavior guidance techniques, conscious sedation, orthodontics,caring for patients with special health are needs, oro-facial trauma, and hospital training. He then completed his board certification and is a Diplomat for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has also earned the distinction of being a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a recognition distinguishing those persons who have contributed above and beyond to the field of pediatric dentistry.

He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association,American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Sioux City Dental Society, and the South Dakota Dental Association. He also serves as part time faculty at UNMC medical center, teaching the pediatric dental residents clinically and academically.Dr.Howenstein 's research, 'Correlating Parenting Styles with Child Behavior and Caries' has been published in Pediatric Dentistry, and his results have been quoted and published in otherwell-recognized research journals, as well as American Baby magazine.

Dr. Howenstein joined Dunes Dental 4 Kids in July of 2014. His wife is from southwest Iowa,and they both fell in love with Sioux City when they visited, and felt it was a great place to settle down and raise a family.

Dr. Kate Reeves joined the Siouxland Community as a pediatric dentist at Dunes Dental 4 Kids, January of 2021. Dr. Kate is originally from Norfolk, NE and attended Wayne State College in northeast Nebraska. She earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Centers College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska where she became a Husker fan. Her husband, Trevor, was born in Iowa and although he grew up in Colorado, he is a Hawkeye fan!

After Dr. Kate graduated from dental school, she went on to complete a one-year Certification program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Idaho State University in Boise, Idaho. She enjoyed the dental experiences she gained during her time in Idaho and loved experiencing all the outdoor activities Idaho has to offer. Following her time in Idaho, Dr. Kate returned to Nebraska to complete a two-year specialty training in pediatric dentistry through the University of Nebraska Medical Center at Childrens Hospital in Omaha, NE. When asked about why she chose pediatric dentistry she explained, I love what I do because children are amazing. There are few fields where you can discuss superheroes, zoo animals, and princesses all while providing an improved quality of life. Maintaining a healthy smile can help a child thrive, laugh, improve confidence, and tell stories. I take pride in having the opportunity to treat children like I would family and provide a fun positive dental experience that every child deserves.

Dr. Kate has passion for all aspects of pediatric dentistry, but is particularly interested in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to patients with special health care needs, providing preventative dental care, and utilizing behavioral guidance techniques to ensure the best possible dental experience for children. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and the South Dakota Dental Association.

Dr. Kate and her husband are proud parents to their daughter, Marjie and have a sweet goldendoodle. As a family, they love being outside, running, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Kate is looking forward to helping meet the dental needs of children in the area and cannot wait to meet you!

Hi! Im Jeanne and Im the Office Manager for Dunes Dental 4 Kids. I joined Dr. Hemmingsen on the first day he opened this practice in August, 2001. Ive truly enjoyed being a part of the growth of our practice and seeing our patients grow up. Dr. Hemmingsen and Dr. Howenstein are wonderful pediatric dentists who truly care about their patients.
