This advanced system uses a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your dentist or orthodontist plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. Youll achieve a great smile with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people wont even know youre straightening your teeth.
We carefully monitor and control the level of relaxation you experience and calculate IV sedation dosage based on the intensity of your anxiety or discomfort. You may feel very relaxed, a bit drowsy, or you may go to sleep, depending on the amount of sedative administered. In general, you will remain conscious enough to answer questions, but you will have no anxiety or pain and, often, you wont even remember the procedure! And dont forget: Many of our patients only need sedation for major work because our touch is so gentle and our pampering so complete. In fact, lots of patients remark that a blanket during treatment is so comforting they stop feeling nervous at all!
Of course, your safety is our primary concern during any dental treatment. You will be instructed not to eat or drink for at least six hours before your procedure. Once the IV sedation begins, you will be closely monitored for breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate. When the dental treatment is complete, you can nap or relax in our amazing sedation chair for about 20 minutes while your recover and before your designated driver takes you home. If needed, we prescribe medicine for pain management at home.
At Drumright Dental Center we go the extra mile to assure that patients with special needs feel welcome and cared for. We will discuss with you, parent or guardian, all treatment and financial options. A preventative and a restorative oral health treatment plan will be prepared just for your family member. When necessary, patients can obtain dental treatment under local or general anesthesia. The dentist will discuss your anesthesia options as well as location for dental treatment, at Drumright Dental Center or Drumright Regional Hospital.
Special Olympics Special Smiles, presented by Drumright Dental Center, is a dental screening designed to provide athletes with oral hygiene education, nutrition education and free protective mouth guards for those athletes who compete in sports that may require such protection.
There is an overwhelming occurrence of poor dental health among people with intellectual disabilities. According to data collected from 9,000 Special Olympics athletes in 2001, 30 percent of athletes had visible tooth decay, 30 percent were missing one or more permanent teeth, 44 percent showed obvious signs of gingival infection and 4 percent had no natural teeth left in their mouth.
Families and caregivers recognize the importance of maintaining good oral health; however, the reality is that many individuals with intellectual disabilities go without daily oralhygienecare simply because it is too difficult to get the necessary compliance. This makes the access to reliable dental care even more essential.
