He attended Our Lady of Loretto Catholic School until the sixth grade. He then graduated from the John F. Kennedy Jr./Sr. High School in Port Jefferson. Dr. Donnelly then attended Adelphi University to complete his under graduate studies.
Following College he chose to complete his graduate studies at the New York University, College of Dentistry where he received his D.D.S. degree. While at this Dental School he also received the Sidney I. Silverman prestigious award for being the outstanding clinician in his class.
Dr. Donnelly has been practicing dentistry since 1978, first as an associate with Dr. Gardner, and that ultimately led to the present day partnership theyve enjoyed since 1981. Dr. Donnelly has also been associated with the American Dental Association; The New York Dental Association; and the Suffolk County Dental Society.
Dr. Jerome Gardner was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York just prior to the start of WWII. Later his family moved to Long Island where he remained ever since. Unlike most children his age, he wanted to be a dentist at 7 years old. His mentor was his dentist, Dr. Seymour Goldman.
After graduating Roslyn High School he went on to do his undergraduate work at Ohio State University. Family financial problems forced him to transfer and continue his education at both Hunter and Queens Colleges. After leaving college, he went on to do his graduate work at NYU College of Dentistry where he received his D.D.S. degree.
Upon graduation from NYU, he chose to serve in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam War. Initially stationed at Gunter AFB in Alabama for basic training, he later moved to Homestead Air Force Base, located in Homestead, FL. While there he received special medical training working with the Flight Surgeon physicians in a hospital environment assisting with Obstetrics and General Surgery.
He also had the opportunity to work with the Oral Surgeon to reconstruct lower jaw aesthetics (Sliding Osteotomy), whereby a so-called bull dog lower jaw would be reset to a more normal aesthetic jaw. Several colleagues and he also did extensive research on the efficacy of fluoride applications for children. He also was able to do considerable work in the discipline of Endodontic therapy (root canal). In addition, Dr. Gardner met at Homestead AFB and later married his wife of forty six years.
After finishing up his military commitment where he received an honorable discharge, he worked with a few dentists before forming his initial partnership of seven years. During that relationship, Dr. Gardner spent several years experimenting with dental Implants. Working with monkeys and pigs, our association was able to determine what kind of implants would be most compatible with the human jaw bones. Some of those type implants placed in patients then are still functioning today, some forty-five years later.
When that partnership ended, Dr. Gardner went off on his own and built the professional building where he still practices. He forged another partnership with Dr. Thomas Donnelly over thirty five years ago. Together they built a very warm and professional relationship with their staff and patients.
Dr. Gardner has five children and eleven grandchildren. His wife of forty six years recently passed away from a congenital heart condition, leaving a large number of grieving people behind. She was 73 years old.
Among some of the Professional organizations Dr. Gardner belonged to are: The American Dental Association,; the First District Dental Society; the Suffolk Dental Society; the American Endodontic Society, and enjoyed an associate membership in the Suffolk Academy of Medicine.,
