DeMarco and Tilkin and our caring staff utilize the latest technological advances in orthodontics, such as clear ceramic braces, Invisalign, and self-ligating brackets, along with advanced computer technology (digital imaging, digital X-rays, and computer graphics).
Each member of our team is a highly trained and certified orthodontic assistant with years of experience in treating patients with the highest level of care. We regularly attend continuing education courses and seminars to remain up to date on the latest technology and advances to ensure that you receive the most effective and comfortable care and the most beautiful smile possible.
Dr. Lisa DeMarco is a board-certified orthodontist with more than 25 years of experience. She is recognized for her outstanding skills and individualizedcarein all facets of orthodontics, including adult, pediatric, and adolescent care, using traditional braces, clear braces, Invisalign aligners, and Damon Smile self-ligating braces.
Dr. DeMarco graduated summa cum laude and first in her class at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She served as class president and received numerous awards for outstanding academic achievement and leadership.
Following graduation, Dr. DeMarco completed an additional year of General Practice Residency training at the Mt Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, where she specializedin hospital dentistry and the care of patients with medical complications. She also practiced as a general dentist in Washington, D.C., and this experience has empowered her to provide more complicated adult orthodontic treatment involving prosthetic and periodontal care, which require close coordination with the general dentist.
Dr. DeMarco completed her Orthodontic Specialty Certification and a Master of Science degree at the University of Maryland, where she served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Post Graduate Award for Clinical Excellence and many other honors. As Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, she taught orthodontics and served as Director of Undergraduate Clinical Orthodontics.
Dr. DeMarco has been recognized for the past 26 years as an Outstanding Orthodontist by theWashingtonian MagazineandWashington Consumers Checkbookand has been featured in severalWashington Post, Washingtonian,andBethesda Magazinearticles on orthodontics.
Dr. DeMarco is active in many national and local orthodontic associations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, American Academy of Facial Esthetics, Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists and World Federation of Orthodontists.
Dr. DeMarcos area of interest and expertise include adolescent orthodontics and orthognathic surgical correction of dentofacial deformities. Her outstanding qualifications and experience coupled with her genuine interest in her patients and her enthusiasm for orthodontics allow her to provide excellent and caring orthodontic treatment.
Committed to providing the latest advance in orthodontic treatment, Dr. DeMarco regularly takes advanced education courses to remain abreast of the changes in orthodontics, which she incorporates into the practice to provide patients with excellent and state-of-the-art orthodontic care in a comfortable and caring environment.
Dr. DeMarco is active in many community and school organizations, including youth sports teams and volunteer groups. She donates her time to Mission of Mercy, through which she treats underserved patients in Appalachia, rural Maryland and the Eastern Shore. She has provided dental care in remote areas of Guatemala with Global Dental Relief.
Dr. DeMarco is the proud mother of a son and daughter and is married to Dr. Leonard Goldman, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, who also practices in Silver Spring.Dr. DeMarcos additional interests include cycling, golf, travel and enjoying time with family and friends.
Dr. Tilkin is a Magna Cum Laude Graduate of the University of Maryland Dental School, where she was awarded numerous honors for outstanding leadership and academic excellence. She earned membership to the meritorious honor societies of Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (Phi Chapter), F.J.S. Gorgas Odontological Society, Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Society, and Whos Who among students in American Universities and Colleges. She graduated third in her class and served faithfully as class president.
After completing a general practice residency at the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C., Dr. Tilkin returned to the University of Maryland for her postgraduate orthodontic training. In 1988, she was awarded her Orthodontic Certification and the Postgraduate Orthodontic Award for Clinical Excellence.
Throughout her career, Dr. Tilkin has exemplified outstanding leadership and highest ethical standards in the field of Orthodontics and Dentistry. In light of her invaluable contributions to the profession and the society, she was nominated by her colleagues and was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists, and the World Federation of Orthodontists. These organizations are prestigious dental societies whose members are nominated and inducted by a board by virtue of their excellent academic contributions, their exemplary leadership and their meritorious work in their field.
Dr. Tilkin is a member of a multitude of local, national, and international dental and orthodontic societies These include the American Association of Orthodontists, Maryland Society of Orthodontics, Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Society, Southern Maryland Dental Society, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. She is also a member and Past President of the Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists, the Greater Washington Orthodontic Society, and the Maimonides Dental Society.
Currently a Delegate for the Southern Maryland Dental Society, Dr. Tilkin also serves as the Vice Chairman for the American College of Dentists, board member for the University of Maryland Alumni Association, and teaches at the Southern Maryland Dental Society. She is a volunteer dentist locally and abroad in Thailand and serves as secretary for the non-profit Smiles on Wings since 2005.
Prior to joining Dr. DeMarco in 1999, Dr. Tilkin practiced as an orthodontist in a large pediatric-based practice in Waldorf, Maryland for 12 years. Her area of expertise includes early intervention in the correction of dentofacial malocclusions in young children and adolescents. In her quest to improve the quality of her care Dr. Tilkin has broadened her scope of practice to include myofunctional therapy, sleep medicine and is a Myobrace certified provider. This enables her minimize aberrant influences on growth and development which improves facial balance and positively affects the overall health of the patient.
Dr. Tilkin is not only highly qualified but a genuinely caring doctor dedicated to providing superior orthodontics, serving the community and improving the quality of peoples lives. Her devotion of lifelong learning provides not only comfortable but also ideal state-of-the-art treatment for our patients. Her love for her profession and dedication to her patients is obvious. She cherishes the opportunity to be part of her patients lives by working with them to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.
Dr. Tilkin is the mother of three children; Ryan, Matthew, and Erin, and is married to Dr. Robert Tilkin, a dentist in Rockville. A native of this area, she is active in local community and school organizations. Although her career and family keeps her busy, she still finds time for creative arts and crafts, reading, and outdoor sports.

I don't write many reviews, but I had such a poor experience with DeMarco and Tilkin orthodontics I wanted to warn other parents. I should have trusted my gut when I saw a red flag on their new patient forms--for "parent" you're required to choose one of "biological, guardian, other." That "others" a lot of parents before we even show up in the office. My 8-year-old patient and I checked in a couple minutes before our appointment, and were put in an exam room and told the doctor would be with us soon. After 30 minutes, we went to the front desk to ask where the bathroom was, went, and returned to the exam room (so they knew twice we were there). After an hour, we again asked at the front desk if the wait would be much longer. They were surprised the doctor hadn't seen us yet, and shortly thereafter, a doctor came in and told us we should have been less patient, and maybe then we wouldn't have waited so long, because they forgot we were there. I can't fathom why they'd suggest it was our fault. I'm not sure which doctor we saw because she didn't introduce herself, or ask my or my son's name before launching into the exam. This would have been annoying, but what followed was worse. The doctor asked if I'd ever had orthodontic work, and I said no, but my kid's other mom had. The doctor then asked if I was his sister, and I had to explain that our son has two moms (this was quite clear on the new patient forms, had she looked at those). She then said to my son, "Well, you're quite a project, I don't even know what to fix first!" I ensured my 8-year-old that there is NOTHING wrong with him, and we hastily left the appointment. I was shocked that a doctor who sees mostly young and teen patients (many of whom may already be dealing with self-esteem struggles because of their teeth) would say something so hurtful. I strongly recommend steering clear of DeMarco and Tilkin. Edited to add: I'd be pleased to provide consulting services on how to make your practice welcoming to more families, and how to encourage a growth mindset, self-esteem, and confidence in kids.

I been coming here since I was a very young teenager 13 years old . Braces were the thing back in the early 2000's. Staff here are friendly and sweet and make sure you're comfortable. No matter what age you are. I returned back in 2021- since my teeth over time shifted. Now with Invisalign, no need for braces. Though they still have braces in their study for patients. My teeth are straight yet again. I love coming here. Such friendly faces and Dr. DeMarco and Tilkin are the sweetest souls you'll find in the dental care Maryland area.

I'm a senior looking to maintain my aging teeth in every possible way. Dr. DeMarco was recommended to me by my wonderful dentist, Robert Herman. Starting with the people at the front of this immaculately clean office, everyone was pleasant and helpful. Dr. DeMarco clearly enjoys her work and it shows. I felt that my concerns were thoroughly addressed w/o feeling rushed. We discussed a plan for my situation and if I do need treatment, I feel confident I've found the doctor who can help me. So, yes, I left feeling 100% pleased with how things went. The location of the office is convenient, plenty of parking. The office is on the 4th floor, no need to use the elevator.

I had poor results from Invisalign at a different office in DC- not because of the Invisalign itself but because it wasn't the correct type of braces to achieve the results I wanted. I wanted straight teeth but also a better side profile where my mouth didn't protrude as far out. This was accomplished by extracting 4 teeth and then pulling the teeth towards the back of the mouth. In the end, I am more than thrilled about the outcome. Thank you Dr Tilkin and Dr Demarco for giving me the smile of my dreams!

What a fantastic experience! I highly recommend Drs. Tilkin and Demarco. Not only are they experts in their field but they also genuinely care about their patients. Its evident from the first visit. They are so caring and friendly. I was apprehensive about getting braces as an adult and they couldn't have made the process more comfortable and easy. I even tried invisalign for a few months before deciding it wasn't for me and they were so helpful and accommodating with transitioning to wire braces. I just got my braces off today and am so pleased with the outcome! I am honestly a little sad that I wont be making my monthly visit to the office. Everyone from the front desk staff to the technicians are welcoming, professional and knowledgeable. Drs. Tilkin and Demarco are the best!!

Great office, staff, and doctors. We're always checked in so easily, seated, seen, and spoken to within a timely manner. They are so sweet, appointment reminders are text and emailed which is also nice. My son and I have been with this practice close to a year now and we are happy with the experience. We were refred by the mailman and we have two friends who's siblings were also treated by this office.
