After dental school, Dr. Colpitts enlisted in the US Army and served for two years. His second year was served in Vietnam at the height of the war, first with the 25th Infantry Division near Cu Chi, then with the 3rd Marine Division north of DaNang. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

After his military service, Dr. Colpitts returned to Tulsa, set up his practice, and embarked on his quest for excellence. He felt he owed it to the 4282 men who died during his years in Vietnam to make a difference, to not let them down.

His quest began in traditional dentistry, where he made a point of studying with the masters at the Pankey Institute, the Las Vegas Institute, Baylor University, the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry, and other elite organizations.

In the 1990s, his interests turned to the correlation between systemic health and the oral cavity, leading him to spend extensive time studying with the likes of Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, Dr. Yoshiaki Omura, Dr. Majd Ali, and Dr. Bob Bradford. He was also one of the first dentists to study cavitations/NICO lesions with pathologist Dr. Jerry Bouquot and eventually came to teach the subject himself.

Dr. Colpitts then pursued a naturopathic degree at the renowned Capital University of Integrative Medicine in Washington, DC. Simply, he wanted to better understand the body in its relationship to the mouth. At Capital, he studied with MDs, DOs, DCs, and dentists from all over the US and Europe. It was where the best and brightest in holistic health met, taught, and learned.

Even now, Dr. Colpitts spends up to a month each year taking continuing education courses. He has studied across the US, Canada, and Europe, as well as in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. He now places non-metal implants almost exclusively, to assist with allergic responses for compromised immune systems. Most recently, he has added laser technology as an aid in many services, including Biostem for surgical procedures, snoring solutions, and promoting healing.

Dr. Colpitts has served as president of the Tulsa County Dental Society and has taught at both Oral Roberts University Dental School and Capital University. He has also lectured numerous times for the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), of which he has been a member for many years and serves as a mentor to dentists early along in their own careers. He loves interacting with other professionals, which he feels makes him a better dentist and teacher.

The greatest joy in Dr. Colpitts life is his wife. Married in high school, they make a perfect team, traveling together on this exciting journey. They have three children and eight grandchildren. Since the late 1990s, they have lived on a beautiful horse and cattle ranch outside Tulsa, where they raise grass-finished beef. They attend St. Brigids Catholic Church in Tahlequah, close to their home.
