Dr. Chang attended Baltimore College of Dentistry in Maryland where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2003. He then completed an extensive five-year residency program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), where he was awarded specialty certificates in both Periodontics and Prosthodontics. While in San Antonio, he also completed his research on bio-modification of titanium surfaces to improve initial implant stability and earned his Masters degree in the school of Biological Science.
During residency, Dr. Chang participated in various trial studies of Procera all zirconia implant restorations. He was the first dentist in the U.S. to have successfully restored full arch implant cases utilizing all zirconia, screw retained three unit FPDs, as well as the Procera all zirconia, full arch screw retained hybrid restoration (fixed denture).Less than a year after completing his residency program, he successfully challenged both the American Board of Periodontology & American Board of Prosthodontics board examinations. He is one of five dual board-certified dental specialists in both periodontics and prosthodontics in the United States.
Dr. Chang is an adjunct professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the UTHSCSA Dental School. He is actively involved in the Southwest Society of Periodontists where he is currently serving as a board member. Dr. Chang has published several articles on dental implants and has also lectured at numerous continuing education courses around the country. He is a current member of the American College of Prosthodontists, American Academy of Periodontology, Southwest Society of Periodontists, American Dental Association, and Fourth District Dental Society.
Dr. Tatum grew up in Richardson, Texas and attended Richardson High School where she graduated in the top 5% of her class. She then attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned her BS in Neurobiology. After graduation, she worked as a research engineer for a microbiology lab at UT. She then attended Baylor College of Dentistry Texas A&M University where she earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2014. She then completed a three-year residency program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), where she was awarded a specialty certificate in Periodontics. While in San Antonio, she also completed research focused on immediate placement of dental implants in the esthetic zone in thin versus thick tissue phenotype patients and earned her Masters degree in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Tatum is board certified by the American Board of Periodontology. Her professional affiliations include memberships in the American Academy of Periodontology, Southwest Society of Periodontists and the American Dental Association.

The American Board of Periodontology was founded in 1939 to elevate the standards and advance the science and art of periodontology byencouraging the study and advancing its practice. It is officially the oldest ADA recognized speciality board and is the only national certifying board in the dental specialty of periodontics.
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation.
Periodontists offer a wide range of treatments, such as scaling and root planing (in which the infected surface of the root is cleaned) or root surface debridement (in which damaged tissue is removed). They can also treat patients with severe gum problems using a range of surgical procedures. In addition, periodontists are specially trained in the placement, maintenance, and repair of dental implants.

Dr. Chang seems like a competent periodontist, but his admin staff is terrible. I have insurance, which Dr. Chang is in their PPO network, but Hannah (admin staff) was resistant to using my insurance and wanted to charge me retail price instead of accepting the insurance company's negotiated rate. I realize a dentist can charge whatever they want, but if they negotiate a price with an insurance company, they are required to honor those prices. Doing otherwise is, at minimum, unethical.

Dr's Chang and Tatum have really gotten things right. I'm talking not only about they're education, knowledge base and hand skills, but with the support team they've put in place from their front office to their personal assistants during the procedures. They are all super helpful and sweet. Dr Chang is both a periodontist and a prosthodontist. This means he understands with exactness in ways most practitioners haven't even thought of with regard to the restorative component to the plan--which is the end result, THE TEETH part of any foundation work he might do such as the placement of dental implants. He is a good communicator and is a straight shooter. He does lots of continuing education and even teaches concepts and techniques on a regular basis. He treated my wife who had gum recession with the pinhole technique and was able to get her gums back looking youthful again. Highly recommend. Dr Tatum is super knowledgeable as a periodontist and has a super kind and caring chair side manner about her. And that's just it--It's one thing to have knowledge, education and skills, but if you won't take the time to care about people and do what it takes, it really doesn't matter how much you know. She will take the time as needed. She will put you at ease during any procedure. She is a GREAT communicator. Take it all around, 5 stars or more for this one-of-a-kind practice. You won't go wrong.

I contacted them as a cash pay potential client to find out the cost of a service. Hannah said I'd have to make an appointment. As someone paying cash, I need to know an average idea of the cost. I don't want to pay $144 for a consult that will be no help in the end if the service I'm seeking is out of my range. A dentist (or periodontist) will know the rough estimate of their services even if it's a large scale of minimum to maximum (all medical offices have a fee schedule). They declined unless I made an appointment & paid for an evaluation. UPDATE: I appreciate the response. It's still frustrating to not be able to get a ballpark figure (there must be a top & bottom range for any procedure). But I do appreciate the reply & understand most periodontics offices would respond as they did. Review updated from 2/5 to 4/5.

Was very impressed with the entire experience. Front desk was always friendly and helpful. Kim was excellent with me in the chair. She really made a not fun thing to have done enjoyable! Dr. Chang's expertise was evident when I went for the second visit and saw the huge improvement from the surgery he had done. Saved a tooth!

First impression I got from the staff's were very cheerful and friendly. You can tell they are happy at work Then I meet Dr Chang and realize why all the staffing was friendly and cheerful. They are working for a good boss!! It was so refreshing to go in to the place where the happy people were Dr Chang is very caring and knowledgeable friendly Dr actually sit down by your side and talks to you about what he was concerned about and what is next best thing for ME! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone

Dr. Chang is a very experienced dental implant Periodontist. He removed my decayed tooth, replaced it with an implant and a temporary crown. A month later, I moved to the west coast and visited the local dentists but decided to fly back to have Dr. Chang finish the final work of abutment and implant crown. The entire procedure was well done with no issues at all. I have full confidence with Dr. Chang. I would highly recommend Dr. Chang to anyone needing implant(s).
