Dr. Rob Smith took an interest in dentistry as a child while visiting his own dentist and has always enjoyed working with his hands. He loves caring for patients in a professional and friendly manner.

Since completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Baylor College of Dentistry, Dr. Rob has completed over 600 hours of additional studies, focusing on the latest developments, techniques, and breakthroughs in dentistry.

Dr. Rob listens to your dental concerns and offers treatment options to achieve your goals. And since your oral hygiene is incredibly important, he always provides information unique to your oral health, including daily preventative care tips.

Dr. Rob enjoys golfing, running, CrossFit, boating, and more, including those he can do with his best (furry) friend, his king shepherd Maverick. He supports our community through local events, school functions, and shopping locally.

A: The brand of the toothbrush is not as critical as the type of bristle and the size of the head. A soft toothbrush with a compact head is recommended because medium and hard brushes tend to cause irritation and contribute to recession of the gums. A small head allows you to get around each tooth more effectively and is less likely to injure your gums. Dont scrub your teeth and be sure to brush gently at least twice a day and visit us at least twice a year (or as recommended) for cleanings.

A: Generally, no. However, its advisable to use toothpaste containing fluoride to decrease the incidence of dental decay. We recommend that you use what tastes good to you as long as it contains fluoride and is ADA approved.

A: Once a day. Flossing removes bacteria and food from between teeth where your toothbrush cant reach, thereby helping to prevent cavities. Flossing also helps to prevent gum disease the leading cause of tooth loss.

A: Although the US Public Health Service issued a report in 1993 stating there is no health reason not to use amalgam (silver-colored fillings), more patients today are requesting white- or tooth-colored composite fillings. We also prefer tooth-colored fillings because they help strengthen a tooth weakened by decay, are usually less sensitive to temperature, and they also look beautiful. White-colored fillings cannot be used in every situation, so when you need a filling, well discuss your options and help you determine the best solution for your smile.

A: While dentists always use the word crown, cap is a term that was popular years ago both mean the same thing. Crowns are restorations that support a severely compromised tooth by covering all or most of if after old fillings, fractured tooth structure, and decay is removed. Modern porcelain allows us to create beautiful undetectable restorations, however some people choose gold or even stainless steel. We will discuss all the options with you.

A: Both bridges and partial dentures replace missing teeth. A bridge is permanently attached to a tooth (or teeth) adjacent to the space left by the missing tooth, or in some cases, its attached to dental implants. A partial denture is attached to teeth by clasps and is easily removed by the patient. We find that most of our patients opt for bridges than removeable partial dentures.
