I arrived in OBX from Maine for a 3-week vacation and immediately got an abscessed tooth. I sent out a few messages and one highly-rated practice did not even have the courtesy to return my call. Driftwood immediately answered, sent me forms and fit me in the next day. Dr. Doering was excellent. He saved my vacation. This practice is wonderful, caring and skilled. It is just what a medical facility should be. Thank you again from a grateful patient.

I have been seeing Dr.Doering for a few years now, he has to be one of the best, empathetic, informed dentists I've known..he has helped and takes interest to hear issues in your health that may affect your care, and not rushing you, giving you the best care for you the patient based on not only is experience but taking account of your personal health to individualize your care has needed... he is the best on the beach or anywhere I've known, and not to dismiss the others, for the dental techs, assistants ect are just as great, showing care and educating you as they do there part.. lastly I must include the front reception, Sara whom I've dealt with most every time.. has always been a smiling welcoming face, so kind and helpful and works to make your visit at the most convenient for you, the patient. The new office ( which I was in last spring) is bright, beautiful and soothing, especially if your a patient as myself who gets anxiety at even a cleaning. Thank you Dr.Doering and all the staff at the new location "Driftwood Family Dental"...you deserve 10 stars plus.. anyone who chooses this office will I'm certain agree and I can confirm They are.. "The Best of the Best"...

Full Disclosure- I do work here. Wonderful Dentist and staff. I have been a Hygienist for over 30 years and this is the best dental practice. It is rare to find a dentist who will take the time to talk with you, so that you can truly understand what is going on with your teeth and what treatment options are available. Kind, caring, professional and highly skilled dentist.

I am so happy with my experience here this morning. Steve and Sarah were wonderful . I have found my new dentist...finally, after searching for many years. Everything was handled professionally and with utmost kindness starting with the receptionist. Thank you for your great care. I highly recommend this practice

Temporarily living near the obx area and needed to find a dentist to fix a chip in one of my teeth. This is one of the few places taking new clients right now that's not booked until July. The hygienists and receptionist are super friendly and professional, they made me feel very welcomed. The dentist I saw was not overtly friendly, did not speak to me when he walked into the room until he was done looking over the computer. It was off putting. More so, I have a root canal gone wrong that will need to be removed eventually, but that is not the reason I came in. He instantly started recommending implants. I had a cavity filling and cleaning done this visit. I am happy with the results. However, after I left I really had time to think about the cost. I do feel I was overcharged for the service, considering my insurance covers 80%. I will say, this is the only place I have encountered that will work out non-credit based payment arrangements. That is still no excuse to over charge for procedures. I had made a second appointment because I do want to start gradually getting my teeth fixed, but cancelled. I'm not willing to over pay and I do not want to be seen by the same dentist again. Overall, I appreciate this office getting me in on such short notice, but the prices are not great, and the dentist I saw was not very friendly. The dentist I saw is not the one mentioned in previous reviews. The rest of the staff is wonderful.

Was on vacation and had to find a dentist to help with an urgent issue that couldn't wait until I got back home. I called Dr Doering's office and they were able to see me on that same day. I called around 11am and they got me in for appointment at 3pm. The appointment went very well. The staff was friendly. Check-in process was easy because they sent "new patient forms" to me via a text message link prior to the visit. When I arrived, they got me setup immediately and Dr Doering was ready as soon as i sat down. Dr Doering was knowledgeable and thorough but also was able to get me out of there quickly so i could return to enjoying my vacation. All in all, one of the best experiences i've had at a dentist.

Steven Doering is excellent! Don't let the fact he is young put you off. He is knowledgeable, confident and well trained. I can't say enough good things! I have had horrible dental experiences from childhood on, so I only go when things are very bad. So, even though I brush, I don't go to the dentist and my teeth are a train wreck. My first experience with Steven was 2 days before Christmas, I had broken a molar that had a root canal 15 years earlier. I had been at that office once before so was able to get an emergency appointment but I really did not like the previous dentist. Steven recently took over the practice. I am not the easiest dental patient, I'm terrified and tough to anesthetize. Doering took the time to make sure I was comfortable and numb, which I wasn't but we figured out my nerves are a little different than most peoples, after learning that I was able to get numb from the block. He extracted my tooth with minimal bleeding. Steven contacted me the next day, Christmas Eve, to see how I was doing. I had no pain, just a slight ache for a couple hours, no continued bleeding and felt fine a few days later. About 2 months ago, days before leaving the area for several months, a cap came off. It was replaced and tweaked with no issue. I like him so much, I'm trying to hold off on some semi-urgent work until I get back to the OBX. Steven Doering is my dentist, he should also be yours.
