Dr. Yan Razdolsky - General dentist in Buffalo Grove, IL

It could be said that Dr. Yan Razdolsky was destined for a career in dentistry. With a father, aunt, and cousin who were dentists, it came as no shock to his family when he, and later his younger brother, entered the dental field. I guess you could say I grew up in the field, Dr. Razdolsky says. Its contagious.

Since the late 1980s, Dr. Razdolsky has steadily left his mark on the orthodontic field through innovative treatment, a series of patents, and hundreds of instructional lectures to fellow orthodontists from around the world. The most appealing aspect of orthodontics is the gratification he feels at the end of each day.

Born in Moscow, Russia, Dr. Razdolsky immigrated to the United States as a teenager with his family in search of political asylum. It was February 1977, and Dr. Razdolsky had just graduated high school. The Razdolskys moved to Chicago to be near family who also had emigrated from Russia. He earned a bachelors degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Illinois. Afterward, he was accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, from which he graduated in 1985.

While in dental school, Dr. Razdolsky took some orthodontic courses, which really spoke to him, perhaps due to his engineering background. Orthodontics allowed him to apply his knowledge of mechanics, physics, and forces. By 1987, he had earned a graduate degree in orthodontics. Dr. Razdolsky went on to work for a very famous orthodontist on the west side of Chicago. Prior to working there, I didnt think that many of the procedures he was using were even possible, Dr. Razdolsky recalls. I spent six months there and learned more than I had in two years of orthodontic residency.

Dr. Razdolsky recalls seeing his mentor use a variety of innovative techniques from Europe. Only years later did I understand how great he was, Dr. Razdolsky says. It takes years of continuing education courses just to learn those techniques, and I got to see them on real patients. Many of the techniques considered innovative back then are mainstream today. That inspired Dr. Razdolsky to develop his own techniques. He held five patents on orthodontic techniques in the 1990s.

Dr. Razdolsky is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. His professional affiliations include the American and European Associations of Orthodontists, the World Federation of Orthodontists, the Midwestern and Illinois State Societies of Orthodontists, the American Dental Society, the Illinois and Chicago Dental Societies, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

In his spare time, Dr. Razdolsky enjoys pilates, swimming, traveling, and the outdoors. He and his wife Anna have four children two boys and two girls and it appears as though the string of dental field careers will continue.

Their daughter Elizabeth completed her Ph.D. / DMD dual degree at the University of Illinois Dental School. Her Ph.D. is in Wound Healing and Tissue Engineering along with Doctor of Dental Medicine. She is an orthodontic resident in Atlanta, Georgia.

She loves kids and is committed to educating everyone about the importance of oral health. Thats why she founded Forever Smiles Publishing in 2016 to help children and their parents understand the value of oral care and orthodontic treatment through storytelling.

Anna was born in Ukraine, and has lived in the Chicago area since 1977. During her free time, she enjoys doing volunteer work at schools, supporting sport teams, traveling, reading, dancing, and most importantly, spending time with her family.

State-of-the-Art Technology: We use 3D cone beam technology, which reveals hidden anatomy and discloses important anatomical variations that cant be visualized on traditional panoramic and cephalometric projections. We strongly feel that failure to recognize these key anatomical features may lead to sub-optimum diagnoses, treatment planning, and treatment outcomes. We also strive for improved speed and precision of orthodontic results with the use of robotic technology and memory wires.

Advanced Diagnostics: We provide every new patient to our practice with complete radiology analysis and report by a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist, which includes TMJ, airways, and pathology screening.

Warning on the cost and quality/competence! Get a second opinion before signing ANYTHING with this Orthodontist! I am a 50 year old orthodontic patient - My dentist recommended braces to correct structural issues with my teeth (overbite, leaning teeth etc) so I keep my teeth into the older age. In October, 2019 went to Dr. Razdolsky in Buffalo Grove, IL despite that at that time I moved to FL, because I took my kids there for orthodontic care and I trusted him. I did not seek second opinion. He proposed ortho plan with about $9k plan for about 2 years of work and started work right away. I got "old fashion" clunky silver braces on my bottom teeth and later on "lingual" (back of the teeth) braces for my top teeth. These were absolute and ultimate torture. I was in constant pain all the time. My tongue and inside of the mouth were torn, they impeded my speech. Because I stated work in November Razdolsky's office managed to charge my insurance for a max. amount before the end of the year, and then again the following year. I was paying significant out of pocket payments for the residual balance. Once all travel stopped with COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 and I could not travel back to IL from my home in FL, I had to find an orthodontist in FL. I went to 3 highly rates orthodontists if Fl, all 3 stated that they need to remove all work done by Dr. Razdolsky because they do not work with such outdated technology. All 3 quoted me considerably lower total cost even with removing braces installed by Razdolsky and ordering Invisiline for upper teeth that was recommended by all 3 as an optimal and fastest way to correct my upper teeth. I switched to the Orthodontist in Florida who is a Diamond Provider for Invisiline. When he examined work by Dr. Razdolsky he stated that he has not seen the type of braces and wires I had in at least 25 years. When I called Dr. Razdolsky's office explaining that I have to switch from his care because I can't fly to IL for treatments. I also asked if there is any refund from payments Dr. Razdolsky received from me and my insurance since he basically just started the work, but received full yearly amounts from my insurance for two years. The reply from his office was alarming - they responded that they "recalculated" their care and consider that not only they do not owe me any refund, that I owe them something! I was appalled and responded that for incompetent and outdated care I received they are lucky that i'm not going to the medical board. Im happy to say that after switching to the new orthodontist I'm done with my ortho care in 15 months with great results, and without any extensive oral surgery and equipment proposed by Razdolsky! Beware of this office charging practice and get a second opinion on the type of care you need!!!
