Following his undergraduate study at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, he attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, graduating with honors in 1988. Since that time he has practiced dentistry in Sarasota.
My goal as a dentist is to provide the highest quality treatment available. Each of my patients is an individual with totally unique set of needs and regardless of the time and work involved, I consider it my privilege and my duty to fulfill those needs.
With the emergence of HMOs and the PPOs in the last decade, the medical field has gone through changes that have caused people to be treated as procedures. Insurance companies and corporate America dictate the value of service. When prescribed treatment procedures are compartmentalized and stamped with a dollar amount, patients cease to be individuals with specific needs. The patient is the loser and the insurance company is the winner. Dentistry has already gone down the same path with dental clinic chains and large group practices.
I firmly believe that the patients who come to my office for dental maintenance or treatment want quality work with a high degree of caring. With that in mind, every examination or cleaning, every filling, crown, bridge or denture is approached with a special person in mind.
In a time when there is a trend toward walk-in medical and dental treatment, I choose to slow down, get to know my patients and treat them with the care and concern they deserve. This is howI have practiceddentisty for over 20 years in Sarasota.

I have been a patient since 2009 and highly recommend Dr McElveen. He and his staff are so warm and professional I actually enjoy going. I had some major dental issues and was referred to him by an oral surgeon & have been happy with all the work I have had. I moved from Sarasota in 2015 to the Naples area but I still travel to Sarasota for my dental check ups and any work because I feel so comfortable in their hands.

Excellent dentist as well as staff. I had a lot of dental work done in 2017. They were great in helping me collect from an insurance company that did not want to pay a legitimate claim.

Love this practice!! Dr. McElveen is dedicated to providing top-quality, restorative care using state-of-the-art equipment. I recently had four crowns installed, something I was dreading. However, it was not unpleasant and was a completely pain-free experience. Dr. McElveen's assistant is excellent and anticipates the patient's every need. Liz Torres is the absolute best and most knowledgeable dental hygienist. I recommend them highly.

As a Sarasota Resident for 40 years I've seen many Dentists, there is absolutely no comparison to the level of expertise and service you will find at Dr. Mcelveens office. Denise is warm and welcoming, always ready to laugh. The office is immaculate and cozy. I feel like part of the family and that's what you get when you choose this Practice. I look forward to seeing Liz and Berta and always know I am in the very best hands no matter what my dentistry needs. I found out about Dr Mcelveen because he was recommended by another physician and have been a loyal and truly happy patient for 15 years.

I have been a patient since about 2013. I had many issues with teeth and gums when I started. Now my smile is more beautiful than ever! I can't say enough good things about this office: Berta and Liz are warm and caring. Dr McE is the best dentist I have ever had. After I was an established patient, I broke my jaw. I called Dr. McE and I remember him saying "Don't worry. We will take care of you." It was so comforting! And they did as in addition to breaking the jaw I also lost a tooth. I have referred two friends to the practice and they have also had positive experiences.

I moved to Florida about nine years ago and had many issues with bleeding gums etc. I happen to find Dr Mcelveen and they've done an outstanding job now. My gums are 100% healthy and they've taken great care of myself and my family highly recommend
