I feel like I was placed on the earth to do just what I am doing. I love being both a student and a teacher, and being an orthodontist gives me the never-ending opportunity to do both. I dont feel I have ever gone to work; its as if I get to practice my hobby every day!

I believe I can make a difference in the lives of my patients by being a good listener and asking good questions. Listening to what parents and patients say allows me to involve them in the treatment. Everyone is unique, and there is no such thing as an ideal treatment for everyone. I feel a team effort is necessary to achieve optimal treatment for each patient.

Loving what I do in our office gives me the energy and desire to study and improve myself. This way, I can deliver great results to those people who make my heart sing every day: our patients and their families.

I grew up in Gainesville, FL, and graduated from Gainesville High School before attending Florida State University for my undergraduate degree. I completed dental school at the University of Florida College of Dentistry and underwent my orthodontic residency at the University of Pennsylvania.

I am passionate about learning new things! After all, this helps me be more effective in giving you or your child a beautiful smile and the confidence you need to succeed in life. I am fascinated at how true the statement more than just a smile is for an incredible orthodontic result. I belong to several study groups and attend conferences regularly in multiple fields, including:

I also love to teach. I am an adjunct professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. You will notice I love to teach patients and families what is involved in their treatments, too. I will always encourage your participation in treatment decisions. There is no such thing as one right treatment plan; each person is different, and I want your unique needs and concerns to play a role in your or your childs orthodontic care.

I enjoy volunteering in charity dental clinics with my sons the Gainesville Community Ministries and the Florida Baptist Convention bus are two of our favorites. I am involved in Rotary, and our family has started a dental mission in Ecuador. We spend spring break and a week every summer taking dental students from UF to work with indigenous people with no access to dental care. I feel blessed to have been given a skill that can help people who are suffering from tooth pain. I believe to those who have received a lot, a lot is expected, and I try to live my life accordingly.

I went into orthodontics because I feel it provides me a perfect opportunity to help others improve themselves in a way that lasts a lifetime. I get to work with an amazing team of people who are committed to helping our patients on their journey to the smile theyve always wanted and having fun along the way. I like to practice in a way that centers around the patients desires for their smile. My first question to every new patient is, What do you want to change about your smile? Your concerns are my top priority along with your oral health. My dream for everyone who walks out of the office every visit is to feel better about themselves and know that they have made the best decision for their teeth and their happiness. I feel that a smile is the doorway to happiness, confidence, and improved self-esteem, and the more I can help people achieve those, the better our world can be.

I grew up in Gainesville and went to Oak Hall for middle and high school. I then attended the University of Florida for my undergraduate and Dental School education. I attended the Georgia School of Orthodontics for my orthodontic residency where I served as adjunct faculty in my last year and received multiple scholarships for clinical excellence. For all of my post-graduate education, I was very fortunate to be with my amazing brother, Dr. Paul Martin. Both of us being able to go to school together at the same time was such a blessing. We have the same philosophies of treatment and get to work together to bring you or your child the best orthodontic care possible.

I am a life-long learner and in an ever-changing world, I strive to stay at the forefront of treatment technologies and options. It really is so fun to learn new ways I can make treatment even more expeditious, comfortable, and healthy for you or your child.

When Im not doing orthodontics, I enjoy spending time with my fianc on an adventure exploring new places, going to the springs around Gainesville, getting out on the water with my brother and father to do some fishing, and playing with my dog Stevie. Im also a serious tinkerer. I love making things in the garage and I enjoy all things carpentry. Being the son of the adventurous Dr. Bill Martin, I love getting out into the mountains when I can for a good climb. I also am an accomplished sailor and have earned the title of Yachtmaster Offshore from the Royal Yachting Association based in England and Australia. Im always up for new hobbies and adventures!

I was born and raised right here in Gainesville. I went to college at the University of Central Florida, but have never stopped being a Gator at heart!! As you can imagine, I was especially thrilled to be able to come back to Gainesville for my dental school education and graduate as a Florida Gator! Orthodontic residency took me away once more to the Georgia School of Orthodontics in Atlanta, Georgia.

Finally, after 12 years of post-secondary education, I returned home for good to join the family business. I feel fortunate to be able to live and work in the community in which I grew up. With the enthusiasm and determination of the Martin Orthodontics staff, Dr. Bill Martin, and Dr. David Martin, my brother and fellow orthodontist, I feel right back at home with the Martin Orthodontics team! When I am not in the office I like to venture out to the local schools and teach kids how to properly care for their teeth and the importance and benefits of Orthodontic treatment. I am also very excited to join the excellent professional dental community in Gainesville as a board member of the Alachua County Dental Association.

Outside of the office, I am happiest when I am on the water with a fishing pole in hand alongside my father Dr. Bill, and brother Dr. Dave, or hanging out with my best friend and dog, Ember. You may be able to find me on the trails at San Felasco or the Hawthorne trail with Ember on the weekends. I am excited to see how much Gainesville is growing and evolving since I grew up here! It has been great reconnecting with my hometown, old friends and new, Gator sports, and my family Sunday dinners with parents, retired pediatrician, Dr. Judy Banks, and Dr. Bill, as well as my aunt, orthodontist Dr. Celia Martin, and my practice brother/partner, Dr. David Martin.
