Worst dentist i've ever been to. After my exam the lady checking me out at the front desk lied to me saying that Medi-Cal wouldn't cover my fillings or my crowns and that I would have to pay out of pocket. I knew in my head that couldn't be true so I told them i'd call back to schedule an appointment, which I never will. I proceeded to check online for what Medi-Cal covers and confirmed that all those things are in fact covered. They're lying to people to make money. So unprofessional.

I normally didn't write a review but I think I needed to write this one to inform others who are planning to choose her as a dentist. I went there in Feb, 2021 for cleaning and fillings as a first time. She is the most unprofessional dentist. I have never thought there are bad dentists until I met her. First, her works left me in pain and make my teeth more sensitive to chewing than ever. Second, I went back there to adjust the height of the fillings but she let her "assistant" to handle the work. Third, while I was waiting for my appointment in the lobby, her front lady came to me and asked me to open my mouth to check my teeth. All the fillings I did at her office failed and I needed to redo every single one at different dental office. I am surprised the way they handle things to their patients. I am really disappointed about everything and I am doubting her qualification in dental care.

I was referred to this dental office by another Medi-Cal member while searching for a practice that accepts Medi-Cal Dental insurance. I proceeded to conduct my research of the office on google and came across many good reviews. I decided to take a chance and I called to schedule an appointment as a new patient. I asked them if they accept Medi-Cal and the receptionist hesitated to answer but she said yes (it is also listed on their website that they do accept it). She then asked why I needed to be seen I told her I was having severe tooth pain and that I also had not been seen by a dentist in a few years. As soon as she heard me say tooth pain she automatically classified it as an emergency service and said that Medi-Cal does not cover X-Rays or emergency services. She stated that if I wanted to continue to schedule the initial new patient check up appointment I would have to pay $90 for the X-rays. Also, if it turned out to be root canal treatment that would be an additional $800 plus $1300 for a crown out of pocket. She also mentioned that I'd have to pay in cash when it clearly states on their yelp that they accept credit cards. I agreed to schedule the appointment but as most the conversation seemed questionable I decided to review the Medi-Cal Dental Member Handbook and contact Medi-Cal Dental Telephone Service and confirm coverage. When I spoke to a representative at Medi-Cal Dental she seemed very knowledgeable and confirmed all services were indeed covered (exam, X-Rays, emergency services, root canals, and crowns in some cases) and that if they truly accept Medi-Cal there should be no reason I would have to pay for any of the services. The representative even conducted a search of the provider by both doctor name and clinic name and neither appeared in their database as Medi-Cal providers yet they are stating they are. I called back for clarification on the reason for the out of pocket costs and let them know I confirmed dental benefits with my insurance and the same receptionist stated i'd still have to pay because "Medi-Cal says those services are covered but they are not". I was confused and asked for further explanation and she said that she was going to cancel my appointment and that this would be the same case with any other provider I decided to go to. At this point I was frustrated and said okay perfect and hung up. Beware of this practice, they say they accept Medi-Cal but still want to charge you for services that are covered. I'm not sure if this is a case by case or they make up their own rules but do not waste your time here if you've selected them because they accept Medi-Cal. I never leave reviews but I decided to take the time and write this one because I know how difficult it is to search for providers that accept Medi-Cal. Plus there seemed to be several questionable acts from this practice like why they asked me to pay cash and how they jumped to an immediate diagnoses without even seeing me. It's as if they were trying to drive me away. Anyway this is review of just the phone conversation I had with one of the receptionist and my initial thoughts on my encounter with this clinic. I have not been seen or treated by them. My appointment was canceled before I had the chance to decide whether I wanted proceed with their terms or not.

I took my time and consideration into writing this review. My teeth were perfectly fine and I only went to here to get usual check up(cleaning etc). I had my clean and needed 3 filling which came at cost of $220(copay). One the of filling started hurting and still hurts now. I told dentist and she said I need to see root canal specialist. I went and paid $45 and she found nothing. Dentist did refilling and pain is still there. She told me I need to see to see the specialist again. I told her i did and she found nothing. She said "just tell to do root canal anyway". I said okay and didn't go back. I contacted old friend who is studying to be DDS and he said me to look for another dentist. I went this place because of high ratings on Google. And I wish I had checked yelp review instead. There's people who had similar experiences as I did(CHECK YELP BEFORE GOING HERE). Going into doctors is already scary and when they don't give you clear answer, it's even worst.

My family and I have been going to Dr. Uma for over 2 years. She is a very humble and great dentist and has a wonderful staff. We were looking braces for my 13 yr son and we came to know that she is very experienced , so we visited and finally we got what we were looking. Last 2 years we are visiting to her clinic for any dental related work without second thought. Last but not least the staff is wonderful, very helpful. This was my best experience ever, I would definitely recommend to others.

Dr. Patel and her entire staff is very professional and helpful. My husband and I have been going to her for the last couple of years and she is amazing. She always takes time to explain the procedures, answers all our questions and never tries to rush through patients. As someone who has always been scared of doctors, Dr. Patel and everyone in her practice made me feel comfortable and safe. She is very capable and her team is very well trained. Special shout out to Charleen for always making my experience a good one! I have had to see Dr. Patel multiple times during this last year for Invisalign treatment but even during Covid times, I have always felt safe here. I would highly recommend her.

Great experience and great service! I have been visiting Star dental for 2 yrs now. The service, professionalism, expertise of the doctor and her team has been exceptional. Dr. Uma Patel is very gentle in her approach & procedures which takes away a lot of anxiety and provides honest evaluation of dental problems/diagnosis. I highly recommend Star Dental's entire team to anyone who is looking for a fantastic dentist for all of dental problems!

Dr. Uma is our family's one stop dentist since many years. We have been getting top notch advise and treatment from her for all matters related to our dental health. She has very good and feather touch hands when it comes to cleaning, fillings or even extraction. I would recommend her very much.
