February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I've been at this dentist a few times. And it was great before but the last time I went there, I left disappointed. The dental assistant didn't seem to care. She seemed to be in a rush. And that's why the filling only lasted for a couple months. She didn't care either about inflicting pain. I've recommended this place to friends and family but I don't know anymore if it was a good thing. My friend told me that the doctor was in a hurry and didn't even wait for the anesthesia to work when he started doing the procedure.

Have had to return 4 times due to fillings falling that were less than 6 months old. All were done by the same person. She fixed one of them and it fell out again.Also at a separate appointment had other cavities filled and this same person forgot to fill a large one on my back molar so I was stuck with a hole in my tooth until my next appointment. It seems this place is more worried about the door of revolving patients moving as quickly as possible instead of providing quality care. I have medicaid insurance (this is pretty much the only dentist in my area that accepts it) and I am starting to wonder if the patients with better insurance recieve better care. I have to return soon for a cleaning so I hope this review doesn't make things awkward but I was sent a text from Mortenson asking me to leave a review on Google. I guess don't ask if you don't want to hear the answer. Not happy with this place at all.

I've had issues with a filling that was previously filled four years ago, and Ashley was able to handle the issue within minutes! The staff was all very kind and made the new patient experience / check-in process quick and painless! 10/10 would go again!

I love this place. Ive always had a fear of the dentist, but Dr. Todd and his staff have made my fears alot less. Dr.Todd is amazing , hes very gentle and caring with his work. His staff is just as great. I go to the dentist now with alot less anxiety and alittle more confidence in myself that I can do this
