On a delightful, breezy Thursday evening, dozens of families, friends, current and former employees came together under a grand white tent to celebrate the Sto-Rox Neighborhood Health Councils 50th anniversary of service to the McKees Rocks and Stowe township community and, more recently, to the South Pittsburgh Hilltop neighborhoods.

Although appropriately masked and socially distanced, it still felt like one big family reunion as guests reminisced about the work of the founders, the mission and vision for the future of healthcare in the community and beyond. The atmosphere was decidedly lively with background music provided by soft jazz duo, Baq II Baq, scrumptious hors doeuvres by Jackie Page of Love Rocks Cafe and irresistible anniversary cupcakes by It's a Pizza Cake Cafe.

The Gala celebration featured awards for three Sto-Rox Family Healthcare Center legends. Father Regis Ryan and Mrs. Fran Hogan received awards acknowledging their more than forty years of leadership and podiatrist, Dr. Roger Rooth, received the Health Care Hero award for his 45 years of excellence in patient care.

Another feature of the evening was a video produced by Board member, Brian Bayer, which included reflections of the Health Centers history, challenges, successes, and the vision for the next fifty years of service to the community. Father Ryan, Mrs. Fran Hogan, Board Chair, Medical Director Dr. Sara Silvestri, former CEO, Dr. John Barczynski, Mr. Taris Vrcek from the McKees Rocks Community Development Center, Ms. Cindy Haines, Executive Director of Focus on Renewal and current Executive Director, Ms. Terri Clemons Clark, all shared thoughts about the importance of listening to community voices as we continue our move towards eliminating healthcare disparities and providing excellent healthcare for all.

Finally, the guests were treated to a surprise announcement that the Sto-Rox Neighborhood Council, Inc. has been awarded an HRSA Capital grant for health center renovations which will better serve our growing patient population for years to come. It was an inspired way to end an uplifting evening.

The Sto-Rox Neighborhood Family Health Center and Hilltop Community Health Center are honored to provide comprehensive health services for the McKees Rocks, Stowe Township, Hilltop, and surrounding communities by focusing on the treatment of illness, the prevention of disease, and the promotion of health. Our care will be known for its quality, availability, and compassion.
