Dr. Tom McCawley has practiced in Fort Lauderdale for over 40 years. A graduate of the University of Illinois College Of Dentistry, Dr. McCawley holds a specialty degree in Periodontics from Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry and recently appointed to the Florida State Board of Dentistry.
Dr. McCawley lectures frequently to universities and dental groups throughout the country and internationally on Periodontics for the 21 Century The Latest Advances in Anti Infective Therapy, and on Practice and Life Management.
He has presented new groundbreaking research on laser effects on bacteria to the American Academy of Dental Research, the American Academy of Periodontology and the North American Society of Periodontists. Drs. Tom and Mark McCawley recently co-authored four new studies on Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) including a groundbreaking study proving that the laser killed the disease causing bacteria in infected pockets. These studies make them among the leading researchers in the world on minimally invasive laser periodontal treatment an he is Co-editor of the Periodontal Letter 5000 in circulation
In 2009, at the height of the financial crisis, he published a book to help young dentists and others with their life balance and finances that has sold over 2000 copies and he has donated over 1000 copies to dental students at Nova and many others. Dr. Mark McCawley is a lifelong resident of Fort Lauderdale. He graduated Cum Laude from Florida State University. He received his D.M.D. degree from Nova Southeastern College of Dental Medicine and also a Masters of Science, as well as, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study after a three year residency in periodontology and implants from Nova. Dr. Mark McCawley is a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology and a fellow of the American College of Dentists. Dr McCawley is also Board Certified in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery.
He is trained and certified in the Pinhole Surgical Technique, a minimally invasive treatment for gingival recession. He is certified as an Advanced Pinhole Surgeon, one of only 30 in the world.He is also trained in the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure and has two published research studies on LANAP. He has lectured on this research to the American Academy of Dental Research and to the North American Society of Periodontists.
Dr. McCawley has taken additional advanced training in implant placement and implant related bone grafting and sinus surgery from the Global Dental Implant Academy in California. He lectured to the Academy on peri-implantitisat a international meeting held in LosAngeles
He emphasizes treating the microbiological cause of periodontal disease not just the resultant pockets. He teaches the graduate periodontal residents at Nova SoutheasternUniversitymicrobiology and the appropriate use of antibiotics to help treat periodontal infections.He uses minimally invasive therapies such as lasers and Pinhole surgery in a gentle manner using sedation where indicated for anxious patients.

The staff at this office are more than helpful. Very beautiful office and Dr. McCawley is absolutely wonderful. I felt comfortable and I was well informed about the work that I needed to have done.

My husband Royster had surgery about a month ago. From the time of his consultation, we was informed of his recovery and follow ups . All phone calls with any of my concerns was answered and my husband received calls every other day to check on him. I've never seen a doctor personally call his patients but this was a first. My husband and I was very impressed and im glad to have chosen this dentist for my husband's needs.. kiddos to the front office staff who was also very pleasant

I am SO happy a friend in the dental field recommended Dr. McCawley when I asked her about a periodontist. Dr. Tom is not just a pioneer in his field but truly a nice guy with a terrific sense of humor. All of his staff I encountered are so pleasant (Trish & Will are standouts). The office is clean and ample parking available. No question, this was the right decision for me!

Best experience bar none! Dr. McCawley is a genuinely caring , warm, and very wise periodontist who made me feel truly cared for and confident to be in his care. I highly recommend him and when I mentioned his name to my other providers they ALL knew him and knew how fabulous he is!!! Office staff is also wonderful !!!

I wish I could find the right words to truly express how incredibly fantastic Dr.'s Tom and Mark McCawley are. In most of my 70+ years of white-knuckling when going to a dentist or periodontist, they definitely changed my life! Both are "Dental Genius' '" and are extremely patient, gentle, and easy to talk to. They're entire staff is warm and friendly and try to make you as comfortable as possible. I thank God for them! They're THE BEST!

Dr. McCawley is an amazing periodontist! I spoke with 6 periodontists, none of whom do the pinhole procedure, prior to discovering Dr McCawley. My gums were receding Terribly in all 4 quadrants after a pregnancy. Dr McCawley did 2 quadrants at a time, and the healing time was minimal minimal. Swelling for 2-3 days and eating normal food for the most part in a week. I did not need full sedation, either.

Dr. McCawley is one of the greatest Doctors I've ever known, his knowledge, his work, his compassion, his research and honesty go beyond amazing. I was told by my dentist I had to have a molar removed due to bone loss, his dental assistant came back with a tiny piece of paper and said don't pull it go see this Dr. and I did, Dr. McCawley said I can fix it with a laser treatment and he did, a few months later, bone growth. Now I was told I needed a crown and once again I ran to Dr. McCawley who once again achieved bone growth. His gentle way of explaining things are a dream come true. His staff is professional, loving, understanding and friendly. I say Dr. McCawley has been Blessed with the hands of an Angel.

My name is Ric Margolius aka Ric Zweig and am a patient of Dr. Tom who gets my highest review. Everyone who works in the office is highly competent and helpful. Almost no waiting whenever I arrive. The procedure of laser cleaning appears to have been highly successful in my case. This treatment appears to have saved my teeth and gums. My mouth feels more secure with no loose teeth. As we age, it's nice to still have my hair and THANX to Dr. Tom my teeth as well. THANK YOU to Dr. Tom and THANX to ur entire staff.

However unpleasant a crown lengthening procedure is, I felt a comfort level with Dr. McCawley. He has a great bedside manner giving me peace of mind before the procedure. My mind was also put at ease knowing they were monitoring my heartbeat the entire time. I'm fairly sensitive to the pain drugs so that provided me an extra level of confidence that I was in good hands.
