The history of Old Farm Professional Plaza began with a family owned farm. The land was developed and strategically outlined by the earliest settlers and was chiefly engineered according Brigham Youngs ideas. His engineering ideas were new and highly innovative. He formed the Salt Lake Valley streets in a brilliantly logical way using the grid system we know today. Broad straight streets, plumbing, and irrigation with large city blocks that consisted of 40 square acres were lined with houses creating inner local farming areas to support the families and provide room for cattle and livestock. If you look at the layout of Salt Lake area you will find this is true of many developed blocks in Utah. Old Farm on 700 East was no exception.

The land was once known as Peale Farm and owned by the Peale family. It was later sold and renamed to Hill Farm. In the early 1900s James A. Hogle bought the property as an investment. At the time the land was considered bottom land with a few small lakes and ice ponds. The ponds were used in the winter for ice harvesting: a process used to create and collect ice to sell for use in ice boxes before we had electric refrigerators. The land was undeveloped and was in foreclosure at the time when James A. Hogle bought it. He had the foresight to know that this land would someday be worth much more. James A. Hogle and his wife Mary Copley Hogle lived on the estate in the 1930s. The Hogle family is well known for the many contributions they have given to the Salt Lake Valley including the Hogle Zoo. They made many improvements to what was known as Hill Farm and years later the Farm had come to be known as the Old Farm. Ducks and geese were brought in and the tall lush trees and foliage were maintained and developed into a park-like setting. They also raised dairy cows and horses. Mary Hogle was a fine, educated and diverse woman who was highly active in the community and was a peace activist. Being so involved and outgoing, James and Mary Hogle held many parties at the Farm. The Hogle family was known for their hospitality and took great pride in the lush beauty of Old Farm. Many beautiful flowers and colorful plantings are still there today.

Seen early on as an investment, the Hogle family eventually sold much of their acquired property. The Old Farm property is still maintained and has been developed to house many residents, medical offices, and businesses in the Murray community. In the 1980s a portion on the property was developed into the Old Farm Professional Plaza which houses the dental office of Dr. Thomas J. Allen today. We hope that you enjoy the comfortable setting and appreciate the history behind Old Farm as much as we do.

Love this Doc. He helped me fight an appeal with MCNA Dental and Medicaid because I have a movement disorder that causes involuntary movement that was destroying my teeth. He spoke with all the idiots at MCNA for me. By the way after I won my case they no longer have the Medicaid Contract for Adult services in Utah and medicaid clients can get porcelain crowns. He is personable and I have the best teeth that I will not be able to ruin. I give him a major kudos for being a single dentist in this office and being so personable and getting me the Hollywood looking crowns I have now. I've received compliments from family and friends. Thank you Dr. Allen.

Doctor was friendly, but the teeth cleaning was not good at all. He might of spend a total of 15 minutes. Of cleaning, he mostly talked. I wouldn't not go back if you want your teeth clean. He took x-rays, but did not use a X-ray Apron to protect the body from the x-rays. Very poor service.

I would give 0 stars if I could. He did a filling on one tooth, but took away too much material which caused an imbalance in my bite causing a tooth infection on another tooth. He said he couldn't do anything but prescribe antibiotics and pain meds. After days of excruciating pain, it finally healed and he said I should be good to go. Well, the infection came back a few days later. I went to a different dentist and they said antibiotics are just a bandaid fix and it was bound to come back. I ended up having to have my tooth pulled. The new dentist also redid the filling that Dr. Allen did to start this cascade of events and he said there was a ton of decay that was left under the filling. Don't use him if you have a better option. I wish I had never gone to him.

If I could give 0 stars I would!!!! Dr. Allen is a nice person, but that does not mean anything as far as a dental office. He did a silver crown on my tooth a couple years ago, and ever since that it gets infected every few months and I'm left to treat it. Not only has that been problematic, I had been set up on a payment plan for that work that I'm still suffering from, well, my card expired and I had to go to the bank to get a new card issued. I emailed their office to continue the payment arrangement and they never charged the card OR CONTACTED ME! They claim they made multiple contact attempts but I went back through my email and there is nothing. Then they turned it over to a collection agency and I find out by being served, they are charging me over $1000 for a $400 bill. I contacted this dental office again, and they said they would make payment arrangements again to call the office. Well, I did and when speaking to the office they then told me they no longer could make arrangements that it's all up to the credit agency. So now I'm stuck paying over $1000 for work that I shouldn't have even paid $200 for! Nice guy---BAD DENTAL OFFICE!!!!
