Tri-County Health Department is the health department for Adams and Arapahoe counties serving over 1.2 million people and provides public health services to Douglas County serving over 357,000 people. Our home office is in Greenwood Village, Colorado and we have ten other offices within the 3,000 square mile area of the three counties we serve.
We offer over 60 programs and services ranging from birth certificates, immunizations, and health care referrals to restaurant inspections and infectious disease investigations. The agency's jurisdiction includes 26 municipalities and three unincorporated counties, 15 school districts with more than 360 public schools, 12 acute care hospitals, three Federally Qualified Healthcare Centers with multiple facilities, three community mental health service providers, and one Regional Collaborative Care Organization (Colorado Access).
The Public Health Accreditation Board awarded Tri-County Health Department accreditation in 2018. Accreditation means that Tri-County Health Department is committed to continuous quality improvement so that we can meet our communitys needs in improving health outcomes. Tri-County District Health Department opened on Jan. 1, 1948, serving 160,000 people in Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson counties. In 1958, Jefferson County separated to form its own local public health department. On Jan. 1, 1966, after the South Platte River Floods of 1965, Douglas County officially joined the Tri-County District Health Department. On Sept. 14, 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Douglas County separated from Tri-County Health Department to form its own local public health department with an Intergovernmental Agreement for Tri-County Health Department to continue providing public health services through the end of 2022. Tri-County Health Department serves over 1.5 million people in Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas counties.
