Dr. Steve Ryan was born and raised in Northern California and is proud to call Contra Costa County home. Dr. Ryan attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he received his degree in biochemistry. Dr. Ryan then attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where he met his wife who was attending pharmacy school at UCSF.
During the practice of general dentistry for 6 years, Dr. Ryan developed an interest and passion for endodontic care. To provide the highest level of service for his patients, Dr. Ryan attended the University of Florida where he obtained his specialty training and Masters Degree in endodontics. Dr. Ryan is a Board Certified endodontist and a Diplomate of the Americal Board of Endodontics. Currently, only about twenty percent of endodontists have this distinction.
When not providing endodontic care, Dr. Ryan enjoys spending time with his family exploring and enjoying all that Contra Costa County and the surrounding areas have to offer. Dr. Ryan also enjoys writing childrens poetry, and is working with his sister on producing a book.
Dr. Ellie Shadmehr, a board certified endodontist since 2011 and assistant professor in the UCSF Endodontics Faculty, has joined our team this summer and patients have been raving about her care. Dr Ellie received her masters degree and endodontic certificate and earned her Advanced Endodontic Certificate from University at Buffalo before moving to California in 2018. Besides her prolific writing for dozens of peer-reviewed articles and books, Dr Ellie loves to spend her time outdoors hiking, running and traveling. Her social media presence in the dental world is well known. She loves to share her triumphs over challenging cases.

Had to quickly schedule an unexpected root canal, and Dr. Ryan's office was able to see and treat me within 45 minutes. Dr. Jay Ko consulted with me, staff performed a 3D scan and the procedure was underway in 30 minutes. Dr Jay took time to put me at ease, answer my questions and took every necessary step to make certain the procedure was pain free. Every staff member was helpful, friendly and truly a pleasure to interact with. Thank you, thank you to this amazing practice of caring and highly competent individuals!

TERRIBLE. After paying in full and confirming TWICE that I have a Zero balance due. And a paper trail stating that the amount for my root canal was paid for. Their office is still sending me bills trying to collect 542.00 THAT WAS ALREADY PAID for at the time of the service.

Dr. Steven Ryan is one of the most polite and ethical dentists I met recently. I was refered to him for a root canal . He was so good that he took the time to take a CT scan and evaluated my situation and advised extraction as he said he could not have saved my tooth with root canal . He could have just done that and charged me instead he thought about the patients benefit. I will recommend him to anyone . Just had my first ever root canal with Dr Ryan. Heard horror stories about root canals in general, but it was painless and quick. Dr Ryan explaining everything before he did it, and his manner was friendly but businesslike. Just what I appreciate. And his staff!! Cheerful, friendly, enthusiastic. Together they made the whole experience positive.

Recently had a root canal done by Dr. Ryan, which turned out to be painless. Filling following the root canal was done by my dentist, but small pain persisted two weeks after the filling. I followed up with Dr. Ryan regarding the pain. As it turned out the filling was not done properly. He offered to repair it At No Charge. Now my bite is perfect and back to normal, and the small pain is almost gone a day later....kudos to Dr. Ryan for not only a job well done, but being gracious to do it at no charge. Highly recommended....

Great experience. Dr. Ryan is very professional and very knowledgeable. He even shared his personal cell phone number I could call in case I experienced pain (which i did) after the root canal. He comforted me providing very specific facts, which helped me hang in there until the pain was gone. He is committed to do the right thing. Staff is also very kind and polite. Overall great experience.

Dr Ryan and his staff are the best! I was very nervous about getting a root canal treatment done. But luckily I found a great dentist who helped me to relieve my pain. Frida, the receptionist, treated me like we knew each other for a while. She's great! She took care of me and explained the process and its cost. Very responsible, clear and professional. Dr Ryan and his assistant did an excellent job. Took a really good care of me during the whole 2 hs process. I'm so glad I went to this dentist. Professionalism and care about their patients are their goals. Thank you dr Ryan for your great service.

My first impression of Steven Ryan was that he was a zippy, energetic hyper-efficient doctor. At least he was agreeable to work with me on the bio-compatible materials I preferred for my root canal. I'm glad he has a good reputation and is so conveniently located, but what really matters is the root canal experience itself. I will post an update later after my procedure.
