Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is, in fact, a dental specialty, and one that, in many ways, bridges the gap between medicine and dentistry. Your Houston oral surgeons are the physicians of the mouth and jaws. Our scope of practice includes the surgical and non-surgical treatment of most diseases and abnormalities of the mouth, jaws, and face. This includes everything from removal of teeth to the treatment of facial trauma and jaw reconstruction procedures.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons first attend a four-year dental school after 3-4 years of undergraduate college training. Upon completion of dental school, a hospital-based residency of at least 4 years is accomplished. This includes experience in medicine, general surgery, and other oral surgical specialties. Because administration of general anesthesia and intravenous sedation is such an integral part of our practice, we train for 4-6 months in hospital-based general anesthesia, doing nothing but intubated general anesthesia for non-dental cases. Due to the necessity for such advanced training, some oral and maxillofacial surgeons also complete a medical degree.

Dr. Koo and the staff are fantastic. I was given 3 choices of surgeons from my dentist but wasn't sure who to select. The dental hygienist gave Dr. Koo a thumbs up and all the online reviews were great. My dentist also said he'd choose Dr. Koo if he needed an implant. The entire team operates like a well oiled machine and they offer late office hours. That made things very convenient. Dr.Koo is efficient and he made sure that I was fully healed and ready for my crown. I didn't realize the entire process would take almost 9 months but I'm glad it did. I don't know what these other offices are doing when they advertise same day or quickly turned around implants. There's no way! If I had to do it all over again I would definitely choose Dr. Koo with no hesitation.

Dr. Koo ensured me what to expect at my consultation and painlessly executed the results. I was pleasantly stunned that the procedure was so brief and non-invasive. His staff provided me with instructions on recovery for the following weeks and a follow up appointment that went equally as smoothly. Overall, I would recommend him to family and friends looking for an oral surgeon.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. Let me start by telling you the process was fast and not painful (I was asleep) when I woke up I had no pain and recovery has been smooth. The customer service at office is fast and friendly which I like a lot all my questions get answered properly and to the point. Dr. Koo and his team are amazing at their job and will recommend to all my family and friends thanks again for taking care of me! P.S. They call to check up on you and text you for follow up as well (I think that's amazing that they care after the surgery)

I had my wisdom tooth taken out by Dr. Koo. He has such a beautiful bedside manner and was very reassuring. He held my hand and the procedure was done before I could get really comfortable. Lol. I referred my husband to Dr. Koo. He's awesome. Thank you Dr. Koo for making my experience at the dentist a happy one.

Follow-up 8/29/22 We requested Dr. Koo for my son's wisdom teeth removal, especially since he required some complicated procedures. Dr. Koo and his staff earned our trust with the outstanding job they did with our daughter's surgery and we are very happy with the work he did with our son. Thank you, Dr. Koo and staff. I am very confident in the work of PineyPoint Dental office. Both my children have had their wisdom teeth pulled by Dr. Koo, my husband had his teeth extracted by Dr.Koo, and I just had some extensive dental work done at the office on 8/16/22 by Dr. Cartrite, who did a fantastic job! Very nice, easy to talk to and gentle doctor. The office staff is wonderful! Everyone is very nice and most gracious in accommodating with any questions or concerns you may have concerning your procedure or otherwise. RL is such a sweetie, she helped calm me of my fears before my surgery and assured me I was going to be fine. Ingrid is another one in the office that I'd like to mention for her kindness. She is such a sweetheart. She takes care of you pre and post procedure. If you're looking for a great Oral surgeon (Dr. Koo or Dr. Cartrite) with a great staff to take care of all your needs, I strongly recommend Piney Point Oral &Maxillofacial Surgery.

My experience with Dr. Koo was fantastic. Their bedside manor was amazing and they have excellent customer service. Everyone is always willing to help you in anyway they can. His assistant Lee that assisted with my oral surgery was very kind. I will 100% recommend anyone to go there.

Dr.Koo and his staff were exceptional in the care of my daughter with the removal of all four of her wisdom teeth this past week. They had planned ahead and I was able to pick up the needed prescriptions at my pharmacy almost a week before....they spent time answering any questions that we had and also stuck to the exact time frame for the oral surgery and recovery time necessary. They also gave me a bag of supplies that I was able to use post surgery at our home. My daughter healed nicely and we had a follow up with Dr. Koo exactly 7 days past her surgery. Everything just went extremely smooth and without any issues. If you want an excellent staff and an exceptional oral surgeon to handle your Wisdom teeth or any other dental issues this is the place to be!!!

I had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Koo. The procedure went perfect, and I had no complications. Recovery went really well and was more comfortable than I thought it would be. I feel like Dr. Koo did a really good job at removing the teeth. He seems to be very skilled as a surgeon. Everything was good here. Only cons are that for each of my visits I did have to wait for around 30 min after my appointment time, but that is pretty common for doctors, so its not a big deal and that varies on season, I saw him in Summer. Also, one thing is that Dr. Koo, in my opinion, doesn't speak very loud; so it is a bit difficult to hear him sometimes. However, this is remedied by simply asking him to repeat himself, which he happily does. Anyway, those would be my only two complaints and they are not big deals. I would definitely go to him again for a surgery. A skilled surgeon is what is most important for any surgery; and Dr. Koo is, in my opinion, very skilled.

I decided to see Dr. Koo after reading great reviews online, however, he was very disrespectful. He was in a rush to finish the consultation with unclear answers and unanswered questions. I politely asked him to repeat his responses because I could not understand with the mask wearing, but he repeated the information in the same exact manner. I understand that he is a well-known doctor with many patients, but I Ieft his office feeling very uneasy and disregarded.
