Dr. Sophia Kalawi is not a stranger to the dental chair. As a child she spent a lot of time having work done on her teeth. Her love for art and science, as well as a history of female dentists, inspired her career choice. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Chapman University with a Food Science and Nutrition degree and a minor in Psychology. She then went on to pursue her doctorate in dental surgery from University of Southern California, School of Dentistry. Upon graduation, she was invited to become a member of the Omicron Kappa Epsilon Dental Fraternity, an honor offered to select students from the top 12.5% of the graduating class. While in school, she was a teachers assistant for most pre-clinical classes and a member of Dr. Stanley Malameds IV sedation team. She served on the emergency response team for the clinic floor and worked as a CPR instructor through the American Heart Association.
After gaining invaluable experience in a high volume clinic, Dr. Kalawi pursued her dream of having her own office. Dr. Kalawi looked at many practices before joining Dr. Bartletts office. Dr. Bartlett and Dr. Kalawi share a similar conservative, patient centered approach; which has made for a smooth transition. Dr. Kalawi works alongside Kandy Bartlett and Norma Solis in providing comprehensive patient care. Sara Elliott joined the team in January, but has worked with Dr. Kalawi for 2 years previously.In her free time, Dr. Kalawi enjoys eating great food, decorating cakes, reading books, going to Disneyland, traveling and running. In 2015 she ran her 1st (and only!) marathon. She is very close to her family and loves to spoil her niece and nephew.
Dr. Kalawi is a proud member of the California Dental Association (CDA), the American Dental Association (ADA), the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD), and the San Diego County Dental Society (SDCDS).

Love this place, everyone is extremely friendly, the hygienist's are very thorough and make me feel like they truly care, makes me happy people like Dr. Sophia Kalawi and staff exist. I highly recommend this place

My boyfriend has always been stubborn about going to the dentist because he is afraid of getting ripped off. I finally convinced him to go in, and we are really happy to have found Dr. Kalawi's office. She is very thorough, is conservative + thoughtful with her recommendations, has excellent staff, and treats you like family. We will definitely be coming back!

Let me start by saying I was scared the first time I came here due to the fact that I had not been to a dentist for a long time. The ladies made me feel comfortable and answered all my questions. Very friendly staff. I never wait more than 10 min to be seen, they take me in right away most of the time. In most clinics you wait 20 min or more even with appointments. Also the place is clean and tidy every time I go for my appointments. Great job everyone!

They are very nice and professional, I have had an awkward or unpleasant time at most dentists I have been to but this is the first one at witch I felt at home so to speak.

I've been very happy with this dentist and office. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, quick and painless service, and no pressure trying to sell unneeded "extras." This is a small practice where they actually get to know you, unlike some of the larger practices that I have dealt with.

I came here because I was so tired of the big dental offices trying to sell you things you didn't need and treat you like a number. This office is small, family-oriented, and cares about their patients. They do a great job with care and concern for you as a person.

Amazing staff, warm and welcoming feeling from the second you walk in, Dr. Kalawi is all around great and best of all, they don't try to sell you unnecessary treatment! They really are here for the patient!

Dr Kalawi and her staff are amazing! I needed help right away due to a sensitive tooth and she was able to see me right away. The office is super cozy and the staff is so nice and welcoming. I felt at home. Dr Kalawi was very gentle when working on me, I was so relaxed in the dental chair and fell asleep!! Also, the dental work was superb. Definitely will be back. Thank you Dr Kalawi and team!
