Dr. Bates is a native of Columbus, Ohio and attended St. Charles Preparatory High School. Upon his graduation, he attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Dr. Bates continued his education at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tennessee in which he earned a Health Professions Scholarship from the United States Air Force and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the USAF dental corps. Dr. Bates graduated from Meharry Medical College with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. After his graduation, Dr. Bates became a Captain in the United States Air Force and completed post-doctoral training in Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in Biloxi, Mississippi. In the residency, Dr. Bates received advanced training in all aspects of dentistry to include IV conscious sedation, Oral surgery training, endodontic training, prosthodontic training and dental forensic training.
He then honorably served at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama as a dentist for an additional three years serving all branches of service. Dr. Bates then moved back to the Columbus, Ohio area where he has practiced since 2005. Dr. Bates completed an implant residency, is an active member of the American Dental Association, and enjoys all aspects of dentistry.
A native Floridian, Dr. Rachel Courson grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. After high school, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she earned her Associate of Science degree. Dr. Courson went on to further her studies in Flagstaff, Arizona where she graduated with her Bachelors in Biomedical Science with honors from Northern Arizona University. She then successfully completed her studies at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
Dr. Courson can confidently provide comprehensive care including cosmetic dentistry, extractions, dentures, and other restorative procedures. She and her experienced team take pride in providing patients with the information necessary to make the best decisions regarding their dental health. A continual learner, Dr. Courson is passionate about keeping current with the latest in dental technology and new techniques in dentistry. She is also a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, and Florida Dental Association. Dr. Courson hopes to help each of her patients achieve optimized oral health and overall wellbeing by providing individualized treatment in a nonjudgmental, comfortable, and professional setting.
After hours, Dr. Courson can be found hanging out at the beach, riding her jet skis, and finding ways to stay active in the community. Like so many, I hate the dentist. This office and Dr. Bates may change my outlook! From the moment you walk in until you leave, it is warm, friendly and professional. When I sat down for my filling, they had read my medical history, we're familiar with it and put al my fears to rest. Dr. Bates is gentle and very kind. As is his staff. I was in and out in 25 minutes! They were very attuned to not crowding people in the waiting room or in the checking out process. I highly recommend Dr. Bates and his wonderful staff!

As usual Sean examined my crown problems and will replace the crown. It will be a difficult job but I have faith in his ability to replace the old crown.

I have been going to Dr. Bates for about a year after I moved here from CA. I have never liked going to the dentist but this has been a very positive experience..I just went for my cleaning today with Morgan & she's great as is all the rest of the staff. I'm so grateful to have found this dental office..

I drove a 1.5 hour round trip only to learn upon arriving that your office was closed due to Hurricane Ian's after effects. Being closed is very understandable. Not notifying patients isn't.

This was my first visit with Dr. Bates office. Very professional, very organized, the latest and greatest technology in dentistry and everyone there is pleasant and very nice. I feel comfortable with my visit and Dr. Bates is a people person. Very friendly and cares about his patients. I was recommended to Dr. Bates by a friend and I highly recommend him.

I have been using Tracy at Dr Bates's Dentist office as my hygienist for over 20 years. She does a fabulous job. She is very meticulous always friendly and very experienced. Dr Bates also does a terrific job and has a high level of attention to detail. Their office is super modern clean and the staff is always professional. You'll never have any fear of going to the dentist at this office. They are true professionals

You realize the minute you walk into Dr. Sean Bates office, you know you're in the right place. From the always friendly staff, to the skilled hygienist and of course Dr.Bates himself. The warmth and caring nature of this office puts me right at ease. With Dr Bates and his staff I've been able to truly smile with pride again. My teeth look amazing, and I get compliments on them all the time. My daughter Ani hadn't seen me in a while, she looked at me and said "oh my God look at your teeth they're so white and beautiful.". Admittingly, it took me awhile to get used to smiling again. I had gotten so used to hiding my smile or not smiling at all and making sure I take pictures on certain side of my face. I feel like I'm finally stepping back into my personality. I hadn't realized how much I have withdrawn strictly because of my teeth. I can now fully engage in conversations, looking people in the eye instead of a turning away. To say I've had an extreme dental makeover would be an understatement. I honestly thought that nothing could be done to bring my smile back. I feel like Dr.Bates performed a "dentist miracle" on me. I went from being glad of the covid pandemic (because I could hide my smile behind the mask) to looking forward to smiling, talking and taking pictures again. You realize it's the little things in life like smiling and chewing that you forget and easily take for granted. I guess I hadn't thought about it in a while, but I remember chewing something and thinking oh I don't have to just chew with my front teeth anymore. Was oh so wonderful. I would say if you need any sort of dental work done just go ahead and make an appointment. I can honestly tell you this is by far the best most caring attentive professional dentistry I've been to in my 50 years of seeing dentists. If you need work done give them a call it'll be the best decision you've ever made.
