After obtaining his post-doctoral certificate specializing in orthodontics at Nova Southeastern, Dr. Runnels returned to his hometown of Destin to start his private practice committed to orthodontic excellence. Dr. Scott Runnels Orthodontics officially opened in 1999 and the practice recently celebrated 19 years of business.
Dr. Runnels is very active in his profession and maintains memberships with the American Association of Orthodontists, Florida Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Northwest Florida Dental Society, Alumni Affiliate of Nova Southeastern and University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Runnels enjoys being an active member of the community and is dedicated to making a positive impact. He loves spending his free time with his wife Allyson, daughters Lily and Emmaline and son Sebastian. Dr. Runnels also loves surfing the local breaks, traveling with his family, fishing and playing golf.
Kristy is the Practice Administrator/Professional Assistant for Dr. Runnels. Kristy has over 20 years experience in the Dental field. She is excited to work for Runnels Orthodontics and is looking forward to making smiles more beautiful. Kristy in her spare time enjoys running, the beach and spending time with her family and friends. Kristy has one son who is a graduate of Auburn UniversityWar Eagle!
April is a certified Orthodontic Assistant and Virtual Treatment Coordinator for Runnels Orthodontics. April graduated from California State University, Chico in 2016 with a bachelors in Exercise Physiology. The U.S. Air Force has moved April to Colorado with her husband (Jared), daughter (Austin) and 2 pups (Leo and Bailee) and she continues to be a part of our awesome team from afar. She is excited to still be one of the first faces you meet when you join our Runnels Ortho family and enjoys keeping up with your progress through our Dental Monitoring app!
Arieka is a Clinical Assistant at Runnels Orthodontics! Arieka moved from West Virginia to Florida about 3 years ago. She also brought her husband, Garrett, and two Saint Bernadoodles Bentley and Buster along with her! She loves to travel with her husband and particularly loves the beach and the mountains. She is thrilled to have a home here on the Runnels Team and cant wait to continue her expertise to give patients their dream smile!
DesiRay is the New Patient/Schedule Coordinator at Runnels Orthodontics. She was born and raised in New Mexico and now enjoys the beautiful Emerald Coast. As a former patient of Dr. Runnels loves to be able to connect with all of our patients and help them on their journeys to new smiles
Haleigh is a Clinical Assistant at Runnels Orthodontics. She is local to the area, born and raised! Her favorite thing to do outside the office is to travel locally to listen to her husband perform with his band, and spend time with her daughter (2) and her two pups, Lola & Ellie-Mae. She looks forward to accompanying you on your journey to a beautiful smile!
Sara is the Social Media Marketing Coordinator at Runnels Orthodontics! Sara is originally from Chicago and just moved here in June of 2021 with her boyfriend, Darin. She graduated from Saint Xavier University with a BA in Communication and runs her own side business creating handmade jewelry! Along with her degree, she is a Certified Personal Trainer and loves to continue learning by listening to podcasts about social psychology and the brain! Sara represented Illinois twice as USA National Miss Illinois in 2019 and 2021. She loves working with people and is so excited to be the face of the office when patients enter the building!

Dr Runnels and his staff have been a delight to work with throughout my son's several years of treatment. Everyone in the office has been so supportive and kind and there was no shaming when my son failed to do everything he was supposed to do, especially during Covid. Frankly, I might have considered firing us as patients. But, all we received was positive encouragement. I cannot recommend them enough!

The best service as always. I have 2 children and both of them need Invisalign. I love how they on tip of new technology, especially with Covid time. The weekly scanning through the App. is definitely useful and convenient. The office is always clean and pleasant to visit.

Love Dr. Runnels and all the staff! Excellent use of technology, very knowledgeable and willing to take time to discuss the planned work and options during the initial consultation. We have never felt rushed or like we were being dumped into a mill of patients (which did turn us off from a different orthodontic consultation). Our experience has been great!
